Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

Dist. #24; Top 12 Posts; Straw Poll, etc…….

District # 24 (Cont.) & Top 12 Posts:

The threads on the District #24 election are getting very full (nearly 700 posts!). We are opening a new thread here to continue the discussion, and closing two other threads. To stimulate your comments on this important election, we have selected “12 Posts We Liked” from all the various threads on the House race. The first 12 comments from the Blog Master you see on this thread are the ones we selected.

Please keep the discussion going about the issues and candidates in the District # 24 election on this thread. If you need to get up to date on previous comments, scroll down and review the comments on the two threads we have closed.

Straw Poll:

Also, we have initiated another (second) Straw Poll on the Senate and House elections. We received e-mails from several bloggers asking how they could change their vote in our first poll. Therefore, as we are much closer to the June 5 election, we are conducting a second poll to see how you are feeling about candidates. If your opinion is the same as when you completed the last poll, please vote again anyway so that we can get a good trend/comparison with the first poll. Click on below to vote again and give us your current opinion about the candidates:

Key Endorsements: Senate District #3

Senate Leadership Endorses Corcoran

The three top Republican senators - Ken Pruitt, Lisa Carlton and Daniel Webster - have endorsed Richard Corcoran in the District 3 race. Corcoran is running in the primary against former Reps. Dennis Baxley and Charlie Dean. Pruitt is Senate President, Carlton is President Pro Tem and Webster is the Majority Leader.

“Richard Corcoran represents a new generation of Republican leadership,” Pruitt said. "Richard stands for hope, opportunity, and prosperity for every Floridian. I am proud to endorse his candidacy.”

NRA Backs Baxley

"Dennis Baxley's superlative record, on issues that are important to gun owners and sportsmen, stands alone in this race," said Marion Hammer, Past President of the NRA and Executive Director of Unified Sportsmen of Florida.

The endorsement of Baxley by the NRA is not unexpected. However, the endorsement of Corcoran by the leadership of the Senate has to be a stinging blow to Dennis Baxley and Charlie Dean. Almost like telling them “not wanted here”! Endorsements by members of the Senate leadership are rare; especially of a fellow Republican in a Primary Election.

Tell us what you think about these endorsements?
