The Republican opponents are set for this June 5 primary race:

We want to hear from you about the candidates: who do you like, why, etc. Give us your comments.
There is already some good discussion on this election in a couple of the threads below this one. Check it out.
Let the battle continue!

Please STOP trying to manipulate the vote count. We know who you are!!!
Sorry- 10-year old was having fun watching the numbers move . . . won't happen any more
Why did Corcoran drop out and opt not to qualify?
Current polling shows Dean with over 60% of the vote and Corcoran is dead last, even with all the money he has already spent.
Who will Corcoran now endorse, if anyone?
Hey isn't ironic that Corcoran jumps ship????
Sounds like Rubio and Baxley are behind this...
Remember the bad mailout about Corcoran and Dean was being blamed for being behing the mailout. Well, I think it was the House Speaker (Rubio) and House Pro Tem (Baxley) sceeming against Dean.
GO DEAN!!! Beat BAXLEY!!!!
As you can see from a comment above, we had an “aggressive voter’ and that distorted some of the early-on voting. However, we have adjusted for the continuous, multiple votes by one person. We also re-engaged the “sharing results” option after someone votes.
For anyone who recently voted and did not see the results at the time of casting your Straw Poll vote. These are the current results:
SENATE
Dennis Baxley 43%
Don Curtis 0%
Charlie Dean 57%%
HOUSE
Damon Baxley 14%
Kurt Kelly 14%
Steve Shaw 38%
Parnell Townley 33%
It’s VERY early in the voting, so check back every now and then to see how the Straw Poll results are looking. We'll update again in 2-3 days.
So far so good for Steve Shaw. Wait until he actually starts campaigning. He's going to blow some people away, with some behind the scenes help from Stearns.
blog master (aka pwf).
the "poll" is from where...you're dreams???
love the laughs....this is better than the Comedy Channels....
Too bad Corcoran dropped out. I met him and thought he would have been a good Senator.
No one is answering my question.... does TOWNLEY have a website? Apparently, it must be too high tech for his campaign.
Got Townley's flyer. BORING. Wonder why no photo of he and his wife? Same ole, same ole.
Yeah, Townley's flyer just says over and over-- "I'm a Jeb Bush Republican." (i.e. Same ole, Same ole, no problems here folks, keep it moving, keep it moving.)
Rep. Dennis Baxley, candidate for Senate District 3, emerged a clear winner in the first candidate forum at Crystal River between Republicans running for state senate in District 3. Baxley presented his pro-freedom and pro-family platform with poise and conviction, and successfully defined himself as the conservative candidate in this election.
The topics discussed in the forum were property tax relief, property insurance reform, protecting children from sexual predators, protecting water and natural resources, and defending the family.
The loudest rounds of applause tonight went to Baxley in response to his answers on lawsuit reform and the sanctity of marriage.
"The trial lawyers hate me," said Baxley, to a room full of laughter and applause. "They can tolerate my opponent, but they are coming after me, and I don't mind paying a political price for doing what is right."
Baxley explained that the voters can expect hate mail and personal attacks to be leveled against him by special interests such as the trial lawyers, big business, and the casino lobby. He urged his opponent to sign his Fair Campaign Pledge and to commit to a clean campaign.
Baxley received more applause when the issue of the sanctity of marriage was addressed. He delivered a passionate defense and expressed his strong support for the Marriage Amendment Act, which would define marriage as being between a man and a woman.
"I can't wait to get back to Tallahassee," said Baxley. "The special interests will work for my opponent, but the only special interests I will answer to are the voters of Senate District 3."
BIG DEAL!
25 people at an American Legion meeting.
The special interests LOVE Mr. Baxley. The NRA and the Christian Coalition may finally get the stooge they need in the State Senate. Guns and Bibles everywhere but not a drop for education, healthcare, infrastructure, or economic development to spare.
Wait a minute. What am I missing?
The trial lawyers is a special interest group and the NRA is not. It's OK for the NRA to give money to Baxley but it is not OK for them to support Charlie Dean. Doesn't make sense to me.
By "them" , I meant trial lawyers.
The NRA isn't a special interest group? What are you smoking?!
I have no love for Mr. Dean either. Suzan Franks or Mark Ravenscraft will suit me just fine.
DENNIS BAXLEY RECEIVES ANOTHER ENDORSEMENT
Dennis Baxley, candidate for Senate District 3, accepted the endorsement of the Florida Right to Life Political Action Committee in his race for state senate.
"Our endorsement of Dennis Baxley reflects our appreciation for his stand for the rights of unborn children, the elderly, and the infirm," said Carrie Eisnaugle, Chairman of the Florida Right to Life PAC. "We encourage the prolife community to participate in the election process by getting out to vote and to help with campaigning."
Someone is trying the multiple vote stuff again. It won't work cause the survey vote machine wipes out your vote when you vote more than once.
PLEASE STOP! IT IS NOT VERY DEMOCRATIC OR HONEST!
Blogmaster: I'm glad you did not have this posted on the blog as one of Baxley's endorsements. It is proving to be nothing but a LIE. Great Christian ethics being demonstrated by Baxley.
See Joe's article below. Sounds like someone desperate for media coverage--at any expense. Shame on you Baxley!!
Baxley's Boomeranging Endorsements
By JOE FOLLICK
Locked in a tough election for a state Senate seat, Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, was proud to claim two endorsements Tuesday from Inverness -- the home of his primary opponent, Rep. Charlie Dean.
But the two supporters Baxley claimed in a press release said they had not endorsed him.
Tom Johnson, a Republican member of the Inverness city council, said just two hours after Baxley's press release was issued that the claim was wrong.
"I do like what he had to say," Johnson said of his interview with Baxley, "but no, I never said I'd endorse him."
Johnson said he'd wait until he could talk with Dean before offering any endorsement.
Baxley said that he and a campaign worker left the interview with Johnson earlier this month with a "pretty clear understanding" that he'd received a formal endorsement.
"I think they're just getting some pushback," from Dean supporters, Baxley said. "I apologize if we misunderstood. It was perfectly clear to me."
Marti Consuerga, another Inverness council member, was also listed on the Baxley release as an endorsement. She echoed Johnson's comments Tuesday night, saying she felt comfortable with Baxley's views but was not ready to endorse anyone.
I think it's actually illegal to claim an endorsement unless you've got it in writing. Time for an ethics complaint?
Doesn't look like too many people interested in this one, compared to the house election. Maybe Kelly should have run for this one. Might have been more fireworks.
A negative mailer is out attacking Dennis Baxley.
"Baxley votes for largest sales tax increase in history!--Despite Governor Crist and other Republican leaders opposing it, Baxley voted for a 42% sales tax hike," the mailer says.
It was put out by Conservative Citizens for Justice, which shares an address with the Florida Justice Association (trial lawyers).
Only half of the story is told. The vote on the sales tax increase was an offset to one of the largest property tax reductions in legislative history. The mailer didn’t say that part.
Much the same crap is going on with those on this blog who accuse Parnell Townley of increasing property taxes 60% without comparing that to the rate of inflation and growth during that period. Net, taxes went up less than did the growth and inflation.
Baxley’s opponent, Charlie Dean, claims “he knows nothing” about the negative mailer. Dean is aligned with the same consultants that Kurt Kelly is using. If I were the three opponents in the race with him, better get ready for the same dishonest and misleading stuff they are throwing at Dennis. Dean and Kelly seem cut from the same political cloth!
Charlie Dean is a Democrat turned Republican. Still thinks and acts like a Dem.
Saw a great quote today that applies to Dean: “But if Republicans insist on morphing into Democrats, Americans will vote for the real thing.” Exactly what I’ll do if Dean wins---vote for a Democrat.
mr. anonymous at end og blog sez Dean is aligned with the same consultants that Kurt Kelly is using. If I were the three opponents in the race with him, better get ready for the same dishonest and misleading stuff they are throwing at Dennis.
you can bet that kelly's hack pennington will smear townley and damon. only thing they can say about shaw is he is a lawyer, but they deal in smear and will cut loose toward end of next week.
Please change the name of this website to Marion Republicans. I've kept it on my favorites for a while, but it is clear the vast majority clearly have homes.
You obviously haven't read any of the comments by Nancy Stacy. She says this Blog is made up only of Democrats and a Socialist blogman.
Maybe you better check out some of the other comments.!
Truly, you think all these people are "Politically Homeless"??? You'd better read it again. I have felt truly without a party for the last twenty years. Not a post in here even suggests that any one is homeless. Again, I state the name of the blog should be changed.
This blog isn't run by socialists nor is it occupied by Democrats. Nancy Stacy is just so right wing she makes Augusto Pinochet's corpse blush!
Anyone who says this is a left wing blog deserves to be put in a padded room and fed tapioca for the rest of their life. Nancy Stacy certainly qualifies.
So the Baxley forces are at work blocking parking spaces in Tallahasse so that a local Dem has trouble getting to the elections office to run against son Damon. This incident plus the use of Stacy to close the election makes me think they Baxley forces are running pretty scared.
For all of you George Bush lovers out there:

DEAN A DEM?
A group calling itself Floridians for Traditional Values is taking a shot at Charlie Dean by bringing up his old Democrat party affiliation.
Dean was once a Democrat and sued the opposing party for libel during his 1996 state Senate race against Anna Cowin. He later switched parties and was elected to the House. The mailer seeks to turn off Republicans to Dean by citing his support for Lawton Chiles and Bill Clinton.
It is unclear who is behind Floridians for Traditional Values. The group's paperwork has not yet been posted online. Dean's campaign staff discovered today that the papers provide a wrong address. The campaign also said there is radio ad by this group that accuses Dean of being beholden to trial lawyers.
Baxley said he was not familiar with the groups but is aware such organizations were involved. Dean's Republican record, he said, is fair game. "I don't know the group but I'm thankful for their help."
I'm hoping someone can help me answer a question:
Does Dennis Baxley actually live in the 3rd District? I've heard some people call him a "carpet-bagger". Anyone know for sure? Thanks.
Dennis originally lived in Evelyn Lynn's district (I believe District 7.) Baxley is indeed a carpetbagger.
According to a recent report, Dennis has purchased a home in the DIstrict. It is not too far from his old home.
I would not call him a carpetbagger. He has probably spent more time in the last month covering the district and talking with people than Charlie Dean has in the whole time he's been in the state legisl.
Gee, its too bad Baxley couldn't talk to people in his own district over the past 7 years as much as he's talking to the folks in this Senate district right now.
I've returned to this blog time and time again to search for truly 'politically homeless' folks. I was a dem for years and they have become puppies of the republicans (especially locally). Elected officials like to spout how they are for the for the working families. This notion of give business whatever they want and everything will take care of itself is 'crap". Passing it on down without being forced to is "bad business" to most business owners. We as workers have been trickled on long enough. Most struggling families are willing to get a 300 dollar a year tax break in spite of the millionaire getting 30000. Any of you folks that claim homeless status go to 4000 E Silver Springs Blvd. I'm sure they will take you in.
Sorry for the last sentence on my last comment. I should not have said "any folks", I should have said "most of you folks". Largest numbers in here are repubs. There still are a few free thinkers on this blog.
Baxley can't get the Marion County projects through Governor Crist without them being vetoed. What good is he to us if the Governor is going to continue to rember all of the stupid comments Baxley made about him when he ran against Tom Gallagher. Time for a change Marion Countians. I will take my chances that Charlie Dean can do more for us. Political payback is hell and we don't have time for Baxley to earn his way back into favor--even if he can.
AS JOHN WOULD SAY: 'AND THAT'S THE TRUTH'.
I believe one of the best legislative teams we had going for us in Marion was Nancy Argenziano and Charlie Dean. Let's keep half that team and elect Charlie to replace Nancy as she has move on to serve the people on the PSC.
I'm convinced that Charlie will get it done for Marion better than Dennis Baxley has.
Charlie Dean gets important endorsement.
Charlie Dean picked up the endorsement of the Associated Industries of Florida Service Corporation today.
In endorsing Dean, AIF president Barney Bishop said: "Dean’s sharp attention to the needs of his constituents, including those in the business community, makes him the best choice for this race. He has worked hard to ensure billions of dollars in tax cuts and insurance-rate relief, as well as provided staunch support for tort reform, all for an improved quality of life for Floridians."
Speaker Pro Tem Baxley shafted us in Marion County again. Came back virtually empty handed. Even if the Governor had approved all that was requested for Marion County (which he did not), Was that all that a Sr. Representative of his stature could do for his constituents?
Ok, I know Baxley’s plate was full during this last legislative session. What with all that deal making so that a Senate Seat would open up. Then there was that pesky move into the Senate district thing. Stumping for his mini-me son Damon’s run for his vacated house seat. Oh yes, let’s not forget to make sure the Funeral home business is properly “protected” (gonna need their money for that Senate race not to mention it is good for his business). He had to take the time to make those deals for special interests, located in other Counties, (got to get those endorsements/campaign contributions, so sorry Marion County he’s sure you will understand). The off to sponsor some just for show, go nowhere, make noise bills for attention, (and endorsements/ campaign contributions, you know, that pandering thing.) Give the man credit he is an expert at it!
He even found time to duck those ever pesky calls from back in the district. The ones asking, Where was your support on this issue? Where is that piece of legislation you promised?
So to all voters out there that have not seen this guy up close. Behind that smile is one cold, calculating, looking out for number one, political hack.
To you voters in other Counties the only good thing that would come about should he be elected is ......... that we in Marion County will get to share him with you.
Don't believe the humble good ol' boy, just got back from fight'n the fires nonsense of Don Curtis. It's all performance. This opportunist is trouble.
I was just comparing the mail pieces from the 3 candidates I just received and IF I didn't know any of them I would have to say Dennis'piece is the best. VERY VERY interesting that Charlie Dean supported Clinton but so did pwf he once told me. LOL! I was amazed to read that Dean really did run for the Senate as Democrat in the mid 90s. Now that is scary. People like him are the perfect example of why Republicans stay in a stitch with one another. They aren't arguing with one another but are argueing with the RHINOS that have infiltrated us. SO, the Dems don't have that problem because NO Republican (except pwf)
leaves the Republicans to become Democrats unfortunately....These people seldom return home to their liberal family. Ugh.... That way, unlike Republican Party the Dem Party is uninfiltrated and purely liberal. Republicans have been infiltrated to the max and us conservatives fight them SPIES down to the mat.
Nancy
Nancy and others---
If you want to know what kind of Republican Charlie Dean is, copy and paste this link into yur browser:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KhrtW-uxN8
That's a good one!
Oh I had already figured out that Charlie Dean character....I went to hear him speak because I like educating myself about them all.
I wasn't in his presence 10 minutes before I figured out he was a Democrat in Republican attire and I told the people I was with. I love it when I'm right. LOL! Now I find out he WAS a Democrat the last time he ran for Senate!!! I didn't know that but I still KNEW he was a Dem. philosophically.
Nancy
The piece on "You Tube" on Dean is very interesting.....heard Shaw on DTHH; Not impressed at all. Too bad.
Dennis Baxley has the endorsement of the Florida Association of School Administrators and the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants.
Charlie Dean has picked up the Florida Nurses Association and the Marion County Professional Firefighters. Yep, that's right he has the backing of the local firefighters!
I am going to try putting a comment here, my first time to try. I think I may be getting addicted to this blog. My third night exploring it for about 2 hours each night. There is so much on the blog, in the archives areas. Hope this gets on.
I did it!!!
I'm suprised to find that this blog is about supporting the idea of getting rid of politics as usual and no one here is talking about Don Curtis.
http://www.curtisforsenate.com/index.php?Itemid=1&option=com_content
With voter turnout expected to be low if someone wanted to shake things up in Tallahassee and within the party structure this would be a good way to do it.
Why did the local firefighters support Dean and not Curtis? He is one of theirs.
This is the third day in a row I've gotten a mailer from RPOF attacking Suzan Franks. I guess they've picked the winner on the Dem side. I would have figured they'd wait till after the primary to start attacking the Dems.
Anyone out there want to wager that the Politically Homeless blog is run by a local radio station?
I've thought Chip and PC for a long time.
Sorry - Not Chip and PC. A much "smaller" station.
Pretty obvious which radio station runs this blog. Where do you think they get their "confidential" information from?
