Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

Kurt's The Man said...at 11:29 AM, May 12, 2007 . . .

"No way is it true! Kurt said at the start he would not attempt to do anything like closing the primary. He is a man of his word and would not let anyone working with him on his campaign recruit someone to run as a write in. You are just wrong about Kurt and will see on Monday."

Flash: It is Monday, and Nancy Stacy -- again -- as previously predicted -- qualified to keep a primary closed. And you are going to try and tell me who watched it happen seven years ago in the Warford election that Kurt Kelly, the fine Christian gentleman, had nothing to do with this??? NOT!!!

Well, I have known both of them far too long. This was done to keep Democrats who would have never voted for Kelly from voting, and that is fine, because it is a Republican primary. But it was a Republican legislature that created the open primary law, so now he is going against Republican law makers.

So, folks, don't tell those who have actually known and watched Kurt operate about his ethics.

Next you will be telling us it was a look alike who showed up in court and introduced himself as Vice Chairman of the School Board to get the kids who violated his ZERO tolerance on campus gun regulation over turned the kids out of jail on a felony armed robbery charge.

Or that he didn't apologize to Sue for recruiting a candidate to run against her? And maybe all of the terrible things that were said about Sue by his candidate?

Well, I've been too busy to contiribute for a while, but I'll be around. Climb aboard. I have a large back.

But let's not talk about his wonderful ethics of which there are none -- spelled n - o - n -e.

So the Kelly Campaign has already started the dirty tricks. . . Sure, it is legal to run a shill as a write in to disenfranchise 55% of the electorate, but is it right?

Sounds like it is time for fresh blood (and I'm not talking about the next-gen baxley boy).

Shaw is looking better and better each day.

Thank you Nancy Stacy! If the Democrats can't find a candidate to run, too damn bad.

Kurt should be a lock now, since all those nasty ass Democrats can't vote for Townley and it's too late to change parties.

Great move Nancy. We love you!!!!

It was Baxley that arranged for the write-in.

At 3:45 PM, May 14, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

There's no way in Hell I will ever believe Baxley got Nancy to be the write-in! Nancy and Kurt have been partners in crime for years! Nancy is Kurts hit man, she does all his dirty work! Ya no she has a little crush on cute little Kurtie!I don't no who might love kurt better Nancy or Mamma Kelly!

SAd, SAd, this just shows the viciousness of some people!

The first financial reports for the Special Election are due May 25. If Kelly’s using that law-breaking Tallahassee consultant Pennington, we will be able to see if he has paid them anything during the reporting period. The next report is due on June 1.

Check out Steve Shaw's website. He sounds like an ultra-conservative Republican to me. Do we need more of them in Tallahassee?

The Pennington Group writes Papa Baxley's Newsletters (do your research and you will see).

Baxley is behind the write-in candidate. It gives "mini-me" Baxley a better chance.

Heck, it could have been Stephen Shaw!! You just can't trust lawyers!!!

Here comes the blowfish Puffer. Welcome back your presence has been so missed. So as we last left it you owe Kurt an apology for your previous defamation #1. (For your aged memory) that was the alleged Father Pat statement you decided to spread around like the manure it was. Father Pat has no idea what you are talking about. So by now I am sure you have checked with him and are ready to serve that apology up. Better late than never. When you apologize for defamation #1 can then move on to your defamation number 2.

At 5:27 PM, May 14, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So PWF - you are saying that Father Pat told you to your face what Mr. Kelly did or did not say? That would be the only way your statement could be true. And what "terrible" things were said about Sue that weren't true? You mean doing business with Herring was not true? Seems to me that was indeed proven to be true. And if you know Stacy so well, you'd know she does what she does without any prodding from anyone. And were you in court when Mr. Kelly was asked to testify about the gun incident?
Seems to me if you were not present at any of these so called events, it is called "heresay". And no, I am not related to the Kelly's, just tired of hearing the same old crap about Kelly. Maybe it's time for you to call him and invite him out for a "cup of coffee".

Not so fast PWF...

"Facts" as you "heard it", "read about it", or becuase you used your journalistic prowess and really got to the source. Now remember it is not a fact just because it was written on the men's room wall.

So for the record and with your journalistic reputation (as it is)on the line what are your real facts about Mr Kelly? or are we going to keep getting the same old slanderous muck you love to shovel.

Why are you sticking up for a man of no convictions?

A great opinion letter in yesterday’s paper from a substitute school bus driver about the lack of decision making by our School Board in its oversight of the school’s transportation department.

The guy writing the piece tells it like it is. Don’t see Kurt Kelly mentioning fixing this travesty of mismanagement in that long list of what he has done to improve our schools.

At 8:52 PM, May 14, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

crawford- you're the only one that calls Mr. Kelly by kurtie. What is your problem? Telling half truths and lies is NOT a good practice.Have you read the 10 Commandments?
Go to an anger management class as well. Get your facts straight. It's a joke how enraged you all get.

At 9:17 PM, May 14, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If this is such a joke of a blog, why do you Kelly backers even look at it? Could it be you are worried that there are people who read the blog and will weigh in on what is said? If you don’t like what is here and you think it is a joke, stop responding. Your defensive posts are getting pretty pathetic. By the way, why don’t you go positive and give us the great accomplishments of Mr. Kelly to sway us to vote for him? I might consider it if someone could point out something he has actually done.

You can beat up on Mr. Townley all you want about the Library. However, any good (honest) Republican or Democrat knows what you have said is a total misrepresentation. So give us some honesty for a change and something positive about Mr. Kelly.

Are Kelly’s law breaking consultants from Tallahassee starting to run his negative campaign already? It’s beginning to look like it. He must be behind in a bad way! However, this is Ocala and not Tallahassee. Folks here may be a bit wise to you high paid city slickers from up north. Especially those with no scruples or morals.

All you kurt lovers can just find the closest ass and kiss it for me. Don't talk about 10 commandments, dont talk about parnell sticking his head in the sand. You claim everyone is scared of Kurt?? Today showed the the true people that are scared!!!! Kurt/Nancy your are not respected by the masses and you know it. Kurt you have no record to stand on and Nancy you simply are an evil manipulating woman. Your "my way or the highway" will eventually catch up with you. The pontificating of Kurt doesn't make me angry as much as it does sad. Sad that individuals believe he is good at being in public service. He only serves his ego and Nancy has self annointed herself to a place of judgement of others.

Defamation some of you say?? You accuse PWF of demfamation??? PWF is right. Facts and truth ain't defaming!!!!!

Hey real republican? your comments would make Ronald Reagan turn over in his grave.

I believe in the same God you do Kurt, so you and Nancy and the rest of you self serving pharisees can preach all you want.

I will leave with this: Isaiah 66:1-2. I am sure you are familiar with it kurt. Thus says the Lord, "The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man I will look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite heart, and trembleth at my word".

The God you pray to for victory Kurt is being asked at the same time for your defeat. May HIS WILL BE DONE!!!!

Nancy I will just pray for you. You need help.

Steve Shaw's website says he is a lawyer, a real estate broker and has both a masters and doctorate in urban planning. Sounds like a pretty smart guy-- so why would he want to jump into this race?

How can you ask a question like that? He and Parnell Townley are the only candidates with any brainpower, experience or knowledge to represent us in the State House of Representatives. The Stearns' think the world of Shaw.

Hey, pwf (aka blogmaster)...since you're so intelligent and knowledgable of everything, then, why didn't you run the District 24?

Or better off, why don't you run for the upcoming School Board position? "

First, I am now the blogmaster eh? Interesting.

Second, I do not claim to be intelligent. If I was I would spend my time better than blogging.

Third, I do not claim to be knowledgeable (correct spelling) about everything, just some things and I write about them.

Fourth and most important.
The day you see my name on a ballot you can be mighty sure I received a call from the good Lord above who said to me "Run!"

Until I receive that call, I will spend my time helping those who are honest, have integrity, are qualified, and will serve with dignity and honor.

Until that call comes from above, I will not put my wife and family in the position of having unknowledgeable people slander them.

She much prefers I do not blog, but I do it to pester people like you. --pwf

I guess we didn't watch the same TV news station. Cause only Townley and Shaw were willing to go on camera with Stacy. The reporter from TV 20 said Kelly and Baxley refused to be interviewed. Although they both said off camera that what Stacy did would help them and hurt Townley. We'll see. Might just bite both Kelly and Baxley in the butt. I could see Townley or Shaw taking all the marbles. There are much less conservative R voters out there who will be heard.

I JUST LOVE YOUR BLOG!

I’m going to bed tonight comforted by the fact that the Republicans have word wars among themselves just like the Democrats. In the meantime, our school system is in disarray, roads are like washboards, wells are about to go dry, drinking water is in short supply, property taxes and home insurance are unaffordable, young people can’t afford housing and the jobs here suck. Maybe I won’t sleep so well after all. But I’m not so sure the Democrats would be any better. Where is a good third party candidate when you need one?

Good night and have a good day tomorrow. I’m sure Mr. Kelly will now that his election is practically guaranteed.

Pat Strait has returned in the body of Nancy Stacy!

If any of you legal eagles are interested, Ms. Stacy may have indicated she is violating the election laws in a statement she made to a TV reporter last night. When asked if she was in the race to win, her response was “of course not”. Follow through with the statement and other aspects of how she conducts her “campaign”. Could be some grounds for overturning her qualification as a write in. Sometimes a big mouth can get you in big trouble. Just ask Ms. Strait!

In the meantime, I've got to go sell some groceries.

Nancy, thanks for punching those liberals at the Star Blunder right in the nose. Hold a red flag in front of a bull and you might get gored. You did it to them. All they can do is complain, complain. It’s the Democrats who have the disenfranchisement problem, not us Republicans doing it to them. Find some candidates and do something other than sitting around taking pot shots at the Republicans who are in control and will remain in control. The Star Blunder and the Democrats are a bunch of cry babies and the crying might not be over.

Anon early this morning disagrees with my positions, and that is fine; my wife disagrees with some too. America, this blog, even good friendships have disagreements. Hopefully, and not too often, they are civil. He might try to develop that attitude. He might also learn to spell "hypocrite" however.

I stand by my statements in the school board election, before and since.

Most interesting is we learn the Republican Party has been dissolved into a "club" as per Ms. Stacy's comment: "I don't believe any club should choose the leadership of another club."

The GOP "club" used to be a very viable, well organized Executive Committee with a substantial, active membership that ran local party business. I am sorry to see it has sunk to the levels of a "club".

As for a lie detector test as proposed by Ms. Stacy, let's do it and ask if she has discussed her plan with anyone other than her husband and family. I'd help the Banner pay for it.

Then we can give the candidates one and ask some pertinent questions: "Have you ever said Catholics can't go to Heaven? Did you encourage Alvarez to enter Mosley's race? Did you ever talk to Stacy about closing the GOP primary? I would even contribute to finance that test, and I suspect I could get even some of my protagonists to contribute.

Then we might have the pontificator drop out too. --pwf

There is a Democratic canidate that the Republicans and state level elections officals tried to block from this race yesterday. Interestingly all the news organizations are using the local Democratic chairman for their source of record, even though he hasn't been at the Democratic meetings for the las few months. The official word on this Democrat as of now is still up in the air. Someone ought to check on this at the state level.

Notice quite a few bloggers getting mighty concerned about Mr. Shaw. Kelly's Mama has been loading up the blog with comments. Fear is a great thing in politics. Wait until they make the wrong move. That blockbuster is still out there.

I did look at Kelly's website. It does a very good job of representing him as a candidate: slick, ego centric, arrogant, talks down, and most important never answers that elusive question "where's the beef?".

Where is all of his great School Board Accomplishments? Didn't see a whole lot he could hang his at on. He was trying to capitalise on MTI an vocational education, but if you ask all 5 of the board members they all try to take credit for MTI. Truth is Mosley campaigned on vocational training during her first campaign and Steve Hering has been beating the drum that "not everyone is college bound" for years!

I agree we don't need any more lawyers in the legislature.

I would also agree we don't need any more "preacher" legislators---real or self appointed.

That puts Kurt Kelly on my list with Steve Shaw as "no go" for my representative.

My question: Is Kurt Kelly gay?

Shaw's married and he lives in Ocala. This blog is juvenile. I haven't heard much substance here. Doesn't anyone ask what each one will do for us? No wonder why we keep sending such cheeseballs up there.

Kurt is a very happy family man. He has been married over two decades with two lovely, God-fearing,law abiding and much accomplished fine teenagers. This comment on 7:58pm is very juvenile and is on the verge of "walking on thin ice". This is a lie and this falls under defamation of character. If this continues, proper channels will be pursued.

At 8:36 PM, May 15, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Don't get your bowels in an uproar! It was a question, not a comment of fact as I read it. No different than what was raised by the Kelly people about Mr. Shaw. Maybe both sides should leave that subject alone and move on to what can these two family men bring to the voters in terms of convincing us to vote for them.

At 8:40 PM, May 15, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why the repeated bashing of Shaw just because he is a lawyer and educated? How silly. We are sending someone to Tallahassee to pass LAWS. Are people on this blog afraid an attorney might actually read and understand the laws he proposes and votes on? What a novel approach.

Would you really vote against a lawyer (Shaw) in favor of a slick politico (kelly), a newly minted sheriff's deputy (baxley) or a retired millionaire (townley)? Just because of their chosen profession? That's where the saying comes from: "we get the politicians we deserve".

Shaw's experience seems to be in representing seniors and doing real estate work. So he isn't the same breed as the ambulance chasing scum-bag or your ex-wife's divorce lawyer. We all like lawyer jokes. But isn't this actually a pretty good job for a lawyer?

At 8:45 PM, May 15, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I know Kelly very well. Kurt is on the high road. What comment are you talking about, Brent? This question still infers untruth. Remember, a half truth is a lie. There is NO TRUTH to what 7:58 said-that is a LIE indeed.

At 8:53 PM, May 15, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

These personal attacks are juvenile, petty and dishonest. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and everyone is free to express it. But do any of you lunatics actually care about electing a public official?

Let's all be honest. Shaw, Kelly, Townley and Baxley are all professed Christians, married, and dyed-in-the-wool conservatives. Heck, they probably each own the same blue suit and red tie. They crowd a very narrow bandwidth on the political spectrum. And each of them is capable of giving us better representation in Tallahassee than what we've had before.

At some point maybe this thread will turn to the actual issues that are important to Marion County.

I've met and talked to Shaw. He seems to have an energy and passion for taking on this task. He is reasonable, modest and approachable. He listens to you when you speak, without trying to sell you on voting for him. I like his thoughts on responsible growth, affordable insurance, protecting our resources and lowering property taxes. He cares about senior citizens and has solid conservative philosophies.

So who is up for a discussion on the real merits? Or do we all want to just keep slinging mud in the kiddie pool?

At 8:54 PM, May 15, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kelly is very well educated as well. He has a Master degree. A hard working business man who is in touch with the people. As for the slick politico, he has become well spoken by standing for the truth and fights for what is right. Is this suppose to be the American way?

At 9:06 PM, May 15, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

We have all been waiting for someone to tell us what Kurt Kelly has personally contributed during the seven years he as served on the school board. I went right to the best sources and ask his fellow board members, current and past, to give me ONE important contribution they felt Kelly made to improve our school system. Here is the list I got from them:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Not much there! I’ll give you my taxpayer and parent point of view of the Kelly legacy: FCAT scores in the tank; student discipline out of control; parents feeling insecure about children’s safety; students giving each other oral sex in the classrooms; permissive/liberal response to student vandalism and armed robbery; transportation department going down the tubes fast; superintendent and principals who continuously roll over the school board (no wonder Yancey loves Kelly!); bloated administrative payroll; taxpayers spending more and more on education and getting less and less in return; debt increasing (another bond issue); impact fees going up and they will have to go up even more; sales tax will likely have to be continued; no real plan for managing facilities/equipment needs; teacher turnover and replacement planning out of control; poor working relationship with the BCC and other local elected bodies; preaching more than doing; infighting among board members; no respect from at least three fellow board members; self-centered, not a team player—in it for Kelly. I could keep going, but enough for now.

Pray tell, what voter in their right mind would want to put someone in Tallahassee as a legislator who has been on the school board for nearly seven years and is leaving us with the mess and record above? Pounce on Townley all you want about some book in the library (there legally, I might add, to avoid taking the Bible out). But Kurt Kelly sure ain’t what we need...anyone but him!

DITTO-8:53. Kurt is very passionate and loves this community. He grew up here. When he graduated from college, he could have gone anywhere- Ocala was home and he came back to start his life here. People who know him respect and love him as well as his family. He wife teaches school- education is very important to him. He cares about the future of our state- he has two teenagers that he loves dearly. His parents are senior adults and live here too. I had Mrs. Kelly(Kurt's mother) in the 7th grade at Ft. King years ago. Kurt is very committed to making care of the generation that raised him, taught him the value of hard work, respecting others and loving and living for God. This blog needs to address issue and stop personal attacks on people they don't even know.

Finally. Now that says something!!

I'm glad to see we have someone who has done their homework and is on issues of importance to all of us. Must admit, it is not a pretty picture of accomplishment.

Perhaps the whole School Board is in over its head, including Mr. Kelly. I have oft times heard that opinion expressed by others in our County. Why transfer the same political mentality to the Legislature? A question we must all come to grips with in determining who to vote for.

FACT: If Townley is elected more porn will be allowed than ever before. Townley- why won't you tell the truth about the porn and the library. THIS IS A BIG ISSUE. Isn't this the reason he lost his last election? The good folks in Marion county saw thru him.

He tried to hide behind the freedom of speech. The truth is he tried to stick his head in the sand. Go to the public record in 2004. You will see that he left the meeting just before the porn and libray vote. To his dismay, he came back in "intime" to be present to vote to keep porn in the library. Does the book Eat Me mean anything?
Townley thugs, it's time for him to make an apology to the fine people in this community who want elected officals to uphold the moral standards of this great area.

Fort King Grad,

Go read the comments above your post and tell me those are not issues of importance to every one in this community. If someone is a part of a problem and not bringing solutions, I don't care how nice they are or who their mother is. I want the problems solved and they are not being solved!

My request to you is to also stay on the issues and quit telling us what a nice person Kurt Kelly is. I know that he is a very nice man, and a fine Christian. But he is a part of the school system problem and I'm not sure he belongs in the state legis. representing us.

Truth Hurts,

I say the same to you. Tell me why Kurt Kelly belongs in Tallahassee with the record he has as a member of the school board that is outlined above.

I'll deal with Mr. Townley and the library when the time comes to vote.

I now want to deal with Kurt Kelly's part in the mess of our current school system.

Please respond!!

Kelly has had a chance to show his capabilities. He failed. He may be a sweetheart of a guy who who tucks his kids in at night and gives up his parking spaces to widows, but what has he done to fix the mess in our schools?

Dennis Baxley is a fine Christian man who, as a funeral director, did lots of nice things. But as a legislator, he seemed much more concerned about acquiring and preserving personal political power than he did about delivering on his promises. Kelly is a politico in that same mold- lots of polish, fine citizen, but when it comes time to deliver on promises, what has he done? Other than acquire and preserve personal power?

So what do the other websites show? Kelly has paid a lot of money to political consultants and PR folks to make a website as slick as he is. Townley hasn't heard about the new-fangled "internets" and thinks a website has something to do with arachnids. Shaw is cheap, but at least he is telling us exactly where he stands.

Why is it that each time some really factual support about what little Kelly is doing on the School Board comes up, the Kelly backers go into "diversion mode"?

I want the question anwered: If he can't deliver results to the parents, students and taxpayers as a School board member, how can he do it in a more complex and difficult job in the House of Rep.?

Please, please someone answer the question.

I'm really not seeing anyone on here scared of Kurt Kelly. What I see is a lot of people who follow local politics, have had the opportunity to meet Mr. Kelly and know that he's all fluff.

My wife works in a business where she's got a lot of high profile customers (for her sake, I won't divulge). Her customers include both Kelly and Townley. It's a business where you really get to see a person's real personality. She's worked with Mr. Townley for quite a while and had always seen him as a good, upstanding person who it's generally (except when he's being cheap - or you could call it fiscally responsible) a great person to work with. She didn't know who Kelly was when she first met him. She came home from work a few weeks ago and asked if I knew who he was. She then told me what a loud mouthed, pompous, jerk he came across as.

Those of us who have seen Kelly at work know the guy's a slimeball. You can criticize me for name calling, but I don't know any other way to put it. That's why I won't vote for him. I don't care where he stands on issues - I could agree with him on every point (though I don't) and I still wouldn't even consider voting for the schmuck. If he was in a race against Ted Kennedy, I'd take Ted Kennedy.

By the way, Ft King Grad - I knew Evelyn too back in the day and I can't remember a single nice thing about her.

The description of the School Board situation offered in the comments by Now We Know is the best post I have seen on the Blog in many months. It really nails the what many know is the "legacy" of Mr. Kelly after many years on the School Board. I'm sure we can expect more denial that the situation is not his fault but that of the other four members.

The important question we all must answer when we go to the polls is also spelled out by Now We Know:

"Pray tell, what voter in their right mind would want to put someone in Tallahassee as a legislator who has been on the school board for nearly seven years and is leaving us with the mess and record above?"

P.S.: I see that Ron Crawford, Steve Hering and Fred and Carolyn Roberts are putting their support behind Damon Baxley. Ms. Roberts is Chair of the Governing Board of the State School System If she is not supporting Kelly, that tells me something!

Reading from Mr. Kelly’s web site:
“Today, Marion County is recognized as an “A” school district.”
Any credit for this goes not to any School Board member or to the school board as a body. It goes to Deputy Superintendent Diana Greene and the hundreds and hundreds of teachers who, in spite of the school board, have used their commitment to the classroom and have tried to teach to the test, and, in large measure, it has worked. We had little leadership for so long, that it took someone with the commitment of Diana her work ethic, and the confidence teachers have in working with her. Most teachers have little or no contact with any school board member, and they do not like sermons to be preached to them in front of a TV camera.
“Kurt led in establishing MTI, a nationally recognized vocational/technical high school.”
This is simply untrue. Mr. Herring had been working hard to get vocational education expanded into a technical-type school for some time before Mr. Kelly was first appointed to the Board, and Mrs. Mosley (elected at the same time Mr. Kelly was first being elected) was pushing vocational education as one of her platform planks. We did not hear a word from Mr. Kelly in his campaign to be elected the first time.
“He also introduced a district-wide abstinence program, which promotes traditional family values.”
Actually, he followed Mrs. Mosley on this one too. The fact he talks the longest and loudest does not mean he brings forth an issue.

I just don't see how endorsements matter that much in Marion County. I know there's an awful lot of hero worship that goes on here in regards to various local politicians: Sue Moseley, Parnell Townley, Ron Crawford, Jim Payton, even Randy Harris and Kurt Kelly. However, who cares if one is endorsing the other? Yes, they may have a dozen or so people around them who really like them and will follow them to the end, but no politician in Marion County has a serious network.

The two political parties aren't well organized at this point, and don't have a real local organization.

Not a single politician in Marion County today has the ability to target a community and change the typical result through a strong ground game.

So when I see elected officials and "important people" endorse one candidate or another, there won't be that much effect.

Besides, even if it did matter, politicians here are running campaigns like its 1985, therefore don't have a clue about modern media, and couldn't take advantage of it anyway.

I don't know what poll you saw. But the one I saw has Damon Baxley, Parnell Townley, Kurt Kelly and Steve Shaw in that order. It was just done to pick up Shaw's entry. Baxley has a slight lead over Townley and Kelly is about 20 points down to Kelly. Shaw is a non-factor at this point.

The real issue is there are about 35% of the voters out there who are undecided. So to quote polls at this stage is a useless exercise. It's still the 2nd inning of a baseball game with neither team ahead. Stay tuned!

At 5:57 PM, May 16, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Correction: Kelly is about 20 point down to Townley.

Polling? You mean the push poll Kelly's PR machine was working this past week? "Would you prefer Kelly or a Iranian terrorist"

Polls are bs in a primary where maybe 4% of registered repubs are going to show up.

Is any polling data available online?

At 6:27 PM, May 16, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Polls at this point are complete BS. None of these candidates have the resources to get a real scientific poll done. You've got to get through to thousands of people to get an accurate read, and I can't see any of them coming up with that kind of dough, and I don't see anyone in Tally throwing down that kind of money either in a four way race. Besides, as the previous poster pointed out, with the turnout so low, you could ask 1000 voters who they like and maybe 100 of them actually show up.

Name recognition is irrelevant. The winner will be whoever gets the most people out to vote for him. Baxley might have a shot if his dad focuses on getting people out to vote in the parts of the districts that overlap. Townley's from an old family with a lot of connections. Kelly, who knows how many people actually like the guy. Shaw gets the votes of the people who are fed up with politics as usual, but there just aren't enough of them who care enough to vote in an off year special election. We're most likely only talking 2500 - 3000 votes to win. Regardless of what you think about the individual candidates, who do you think can personally drive that many people to the polls?

At 7:12 PM, May 16, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jackie, as always you are right on the button! Polls at this stage mean nothing. Give things another week and then polls may matter a bit more. In a primary, it's get voters out to vote.

Also, I always find it interesting that those who aren't getting any endorsements or support are the ones to downplay there importance. I'm interested in what Kelly's fellow board members think about him. And who people like Mr. & Mrs. Roberts support (Damon) is important.

The only candidate that four county commissioners endorsed
(Fitos did not endorse anyone)is Dennis Baxley. They have not endorsed anyone for the House race and doubt they will.

This guy (the robber) was likely educated in the Marion County School System and is one of those that Kurt Kelly would go to bat for to get law enforcement to let them off the hook. Kelly may have already appeared in court as a “character witness”. He probably stated: “this guy is a respectful and natural leader”.

Yep, Kurt stands up for law enforcement and student discipline. What a farce!!!

What a hell of a group we’ve got to pick from.

Kelly—a Mama’s Boy, anti-law enforcement and a pussy on student discipline.

Baxley—a Daddy’s Boy, too young and has done nothing to qualify him to even be running for office. Other than Daddy told him to.

Townley—too old, and ought to be retired and home in his rocking chair.

Shaw—another lawyer to screw us up further in Tallahassee and a sexual harassment attorney on top of that. Just what we need.

My recommendation: Stay home. Whichever one of them is elected is not going to get reelected in 2008. Give one of them a year of fame and glory to stroke their ego. Good thing is they can’t hurt us or help us next year.

Leadership by public officials is sometimes missing.

This week, we get more evidence of a continuing problem with weapons at our schools. Another student was nailed with a gun, this time at West Port; earlier in the year in the locker room at Forest; and the record is replete with other cases of weapons confiscated not only at high schools, but in middle and elementary schools.

I happened upon the School Board meeting this week, where Mrs. Mosley asked for costs et cetera for the installation of metal detectors at schools, along with a time frame to get it done.

There was only a luke warm response from other board members and sort of a “okay, I will look into it” from the Superintendent. The Chairman did agree to put it on the July agenda for a work session.

It is tragic that technology like a metal detector would ever be necessary in our schools. We used to take knives to school without a second thought. But the times have changed. Who would have ever imagined that a kid would steal his Moma’s gun, take it to school and hand it off to another football player. (But then, who would ever, ever have imagined a school board member would go before a judge and ask that the kids be released because they were “natural board leaders”?

With all of the bomb scares and the by now tens and tens of thousands of dollars of expense by school personnel, Ocala Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies to handle these little “pranks”, metal detectors may well be necessary. A phone call today to obtain the cost information -- not wait until July – certainly seems in order.

Also in order from my stand point, is the suggestion, again from Mrs. Mosley, to ban cell phones and other non-educational items from the campus of our schools. Text messaging has no role in learning, and there is no need to have the phones there. Rumors, fear, and panic results when every kid in the classroom has a phone on hand.

Now is when we need leadership from all of the Board members and school personnel. We have been very fortunate that nothing serious has happened, but our money should be spent in the classrooms, not sweeping our schools for a couple of weeks to make sure there are no bombs, guns et cetera. --pwf

Here I will type it for you so all you have to do is copy and paste

I, PWF do apologize to Mr. Kelly for the lie that I repeated many times on this blog. You indeed did not go to Father 'O' and make stupid anti-Catholic comments.
When it was brought to my attention that I was spreading a falsehood and to check with Father O, I did and yes it was true Mr. Kelly never made the remarks to him. See I do stand by word and when anyone brings to my attention that I am wrong, spreading falsehoods, or manipulating facts I being the ace reporter that I am will check it out and issue the retraction and apology that I have given my word to do. - PWF

See that wasn't hard was it!

There are, in the body politic, economic and social, many and grave evils, and there is urgent necessity for the sternest war upon them. There should be relentless exposure of and attack upon every evil man whether politician or business man, every evil practice, whether in politics, in business, or in social life. I hail as a benefactor every writer or speaker, every man who, on the platform, or in book, magazine, or newspaper, with merciless severity makes such attack, provided always that he in his turn remembers that the attack is of use only if it is absolutely truthful."

I didn't notice Kelly looking like Nixon. But I didn't notice any substance either.

His 4-page glossy brochure listed everything from his position on his high school football team, to his class presidency in middle school. Gave Momma Kelly's resume. Talked about his Dad's being a preacher. Might have missed the name of his first dog, but I'm pretty sure that was in there too.

What struck me funny was he had plenty of room for all this utter fluff, and not a single sentence about what he planned to do if he made it to Tallahassee. Didn't identify a single issue or problem facing Marion County. Didn't ever bother to offer solutions or direction. I came away thinking "upstanding guy", but I had no clue where he stands or what he would do as my representative.

Baxley is running as his Dad. Townley is running as Townley. The only guy who is taking a stand on issues that matter to me is Shaw. His website (www.shawforflorida.org) at least tells me where he stands and what he will do. I only wish the others would bother to do the same. For now, it looks like I'm voting for Shaw

Again, another "fluffy" statement of his involvement. I think Jaye Baille was the "real" organizer. I think there were probably 30-40 followers of her, including Mr. Kelly. I agree, how about some solutions from him?

We all know what that means. Kelly is behind and the only way to win is have his muckraking consultants go negative just like they are doing for Charlie Dean against Dennis Baxley. Dennis will stay away from the trashy politicking. We will just wait and see how honorable, honest and “good Christian” Kelly is when it comes to politics. I believe I already know the answer.

Now about the issues-- can't you even give us a hint? Is Kelly going to let voters know if he has positions or solutions? I promise not to tell anyone if you let it slip. . .

All of the candidates have roots in Ocala. All of the candidates went to high school in Ocala (except maybe Townley-who has been in Ocala longer than the other candidates have been alive-combined). So what POSSIBLE relevance does this factor have in this election?

Yeah, I think we can agree all (well most of us that are intelligent anyway) that the candidates are:

Good Christian Men, Married, Not Gay, Strong on Family Values, Anti-Abortion, Pro-Gun, Conservative, Local, etc.

But what makes them different? McDonald's doesn't compete against Burger King by saying "hey-we sell hamburgers". Well, duh. A Republican is being redundant in this race if he just tells us he is a good person and comes from a good family.

Where's the differentiation?
Where's the substance?
Where are the solutions?

Or do those things just not matter?

I heard Kurt kelly speak on Thursday nite. While there,he talked about being raised on the farm- how he got up at some ungodly hour to feed the calves, milk the cow and help with his younger sisters. He talked about how he was on VHS school football team, president of the Key club as well as delivered two fl paper and worked with his dad's janitorial service yet expected to make good grades.
He knows the value of hard work and is part of the struggling middle class. he is concerned the burden middle class like his own family- parent and his sisters' families. he touched on education addressing the need for an improved education system. His wife is a teacher for over 20 years. His mother and dad were both teachers. He touched on a hertiage of educators in his family. he mentioned his legislative experience working at the capital after graduating from FSU in the '80s.

Many of you bloggers have TRIED and are failing to paint Kurt as some "silver spoon" candidate.
This is NOT TRUE.

He will be fighting for lower insurance, taxes, issues for the aging and education. he will use his common sense and God given abilities to do what he knows is right for ocala.
Yes- some of the other candidates may have some good points, but Kurt has the overwhelming qualifications and convictions that will represent all in this area- even you Kelly bashers.

Go Kurt- ocala and being part of the middle class is engrained in you. I have faith that he will represent ocala in the best manner possible. There many of us pounding the pavement in order to get your message out. if the people hear, I do believe they will see who you are- a man of integrity, moral values and high standards.

11:42- correction- Shaw was raised in Mirimar- that is South Florida. We need someone WHO REALLY knows this area inside and out- this is KURT!!!!! PERIOD

Maybe Shaw, Baxley could be on the school board- first, start at the local level.

Truly makes me feel ashamed to be a Republican. Noticed the newspaper's editorial also commented on her this AM.

Now that Stacy is a candidate, she is fair game for comment and criticism. I'm still not convinced she wasn't in on her scheme with Kurt Kelly and/or Damon Baxley. Only they know that, and we will likely never hear the truth.

It is obvious to anybody reviewing this thread, that mistatements and personal vendendas blur the quality of content.

Names should be required to post just as they are for "Letters To The Editor"

So the question is : more posts or better content ?

The New York Times not only requires names but confirms the writer's identity prior to posting blog responses.

I do not reside in House District #24. Never the less, I am following the race closely to see if substance instead of fluff will prevail. So far I am disappointed as I am sure many readers of this blog are.

If the write in candidate (Nancy Stacy) was from a political party other than Republican, it would not have looked as suspicious. Feeling there would be last minute game playing, I did the unthinkable. I changed my voter registration a month ago. The Republicans really don’t look very confident or honest when they have to use a devious tactic like a write in to try to win. Don’t trust, just switch. The new motto for many of us.

Get over it- the issue with the "write-in" candidate. So what- Rumor is baby baxley and his daddy worked this one out undercover.

So, let me get this straight. I should make my decision in the June 5th primary based on the following:

Kurt Kelly - I am entrenched in local politics via the school board. Nothing has really changed in local schools except that they have gotten worse (lower standards, less discipline, etc.). I don't have any new ideas, but I will implement some when I get elected - just wait and see (where have we heard that before). However, I am a nice guy, a family man, and I have lived in Ocala my entire life.

Damon Baxley - This is a family office. I will continue to ring up endorsements from groups before they even speak to the other candidates. Come to my fundraiser on May 21st in Tallahassee, and I'll tell you more. I am a family man, and have lived in Ocala my entire life. By the way, have I mentioned that my did is Dennis Baxley - maybe I have.

Parnell Townley - I've been entrenched in local politics for the past 100 years. Please vote for me before I become a political fossil.

Steve Shaw - well, you can probably predict what I'm going to say.

Don't continue to vote for the same old candidates with the same old reason for running - themselves.
