Filling Argenziano's Senate Seat: Local Political Intrigue!
The recent announcement of Dennis Baxley’s intent to run for the State Senate seat of Nancy Argenziano (in what seems the likely event of her appointment as a PSC commissioner) has set off our local politicos to speculate what might happen. In particular, there could be major trickle down impact at our local level. Baxley’s son, Damon, has already expressed his intent to run to replace his father as State Representative.
Here is the word on the street concerning possible players in the political intrigue that could result:
Argenziano’s Senate Seat
In addition to Dennis Baxley, the media reports two other Republicans are definitely interested in the spot. Richard Corcoran, former Chief of Staff to Speaker of the House Marco Rubio. Charlie Dean, current member of the House who represents part of Argenziano’s senate district. The Dems are having difficulty coming up with potential candidates. Probably because Governor Crist and the Republicans have effectively neutered their influence with the overwhelming public support of the direction things are going at the state level!
Baxley’s House Seat
On the local scene, there are several Republican candidates in the mix for Baxley’s seat. Some have already declared interest and some are still speculation. Baxley’s son, Damon, is a definite candidate. County Commissioner, Andy Kesselring is a declared candidate. In the category of those with possible interest are: School Board member Kurt Kelly; City Councilman Kent Guinn; City Councilman Dan Owen; former County Commissioner Randy Harris.
Local Ramifications
Obviously, if any of those above declare to run, there could be several local openings to be filled via temporary appointments by the Governor or by declaring Special Elections.
Among these would be: Kesselring’s County Commissioner seat. Potential candidates include: Jimmy Walton, who ran for this spot before and has declared his intent to run again; School Board member Sue Mosley; former City Councilman Mike Amsden.
Additionally, two School Board and two City Council seats could also become vacant.
So tell us, what have you heard and who are some candidates not on the above lists. Especially, any Democrats. Or are they “missing in action”?
160 Comments:
Thank God! Finally something other than E-1.
DENNIS AND DAMON ROCK!!!!!
The Democrats are so short handed they are trying to convince the Party Chair, Karen Thurman to run for the Senate opening. Glory be!
Here is your chance dems!! A 26 year old with the only qualifications of having the intials D.B.(referring to Damon Baxley for some of you). Reminds me of the race last year with young Thurman vs. Larry Cretul. Surely this will be an interesting race since there could some challengers with a slightly better resume than just " vote for me, my dad is dennis"
Where's James Walker when we need him?
Pray for a quick end to the war in Iraq.
James Walker would be Great!
I'm shocked at all the scuddle butt over Young Baxley he is a political nobody! Never say there's not power in name recognition!
I have not heard of any interest from Randy Harris....BUT:
If he is....the anger of taxpayers at the E-One fiasco would place him in a perfect position to capitilize on the situation. All of the other possible candidates, especially Guinn and Owen wouldn't have a snowballs chance if Harris runs. Andy wouldn't fare well either. My vote would be for Harris.
We'll see.
Walton--Amsden--Mosley
No doubt in my mind who I vote for. Sue Mosley hands down.
Richard Corcoran opened a campaign account yesterday and has already met with the editorial board of the Citrus County Chronicle. He has a head start because state lawmakers, his two competitors for the job, can’t raise money during the session. The guy may be tough to beat in a special election.
If a serious Dem gets into this race, it could be a real close election, especially if the Reps hammer each other. And they will! Baxley won't go home without a fight, Corcoran has given up a 6-figure job, & Dean is giving up a House seat. Look out!
Get to know Damon Baxley. He is a fine young man. We need more young people involved in our government. Also, he is not a carboncopy of his father and has his own ideas on many issues.
Another Baxley???? NO NO NO NO!!
DENNIS AND DAMON ROCK!!!!!
Has anyone declared officially they are going to run for any of these local office seats?????
Heard Amsden was on the news?? Missed it though...
Would love to see Amsden in the mix. :-)
The man has done alot of positive things for our community. :-)
Here's what the rumor mill is churning out....
State rep,
Kurt Kelly,
Stan Hanson,
Daniel Owen,
Andy Kesselring
Damon Baxley,
Christine Dubkowski, only ones committed for sure is Baxley & Kesselring.
County Comm-
Jimmy Walton, Committed
Mike Amsden, Committed
Sue Mosley, Not committed
Some very interesting names on the list above to replace Baxley. Could be a real dogfight among several different segments of the local Republican Party.
Sue Mosely????????? What is that all about?????????? She needs to stay in the schoolboard.
Are all of the names listed committed for State Rep?
Go Stan!
Who's Stan?
Looks like the Republicans need a woman in the field.
The Democrats may need James Walker. Well folks, the Republicans sure as hell need Randy Harris. Please Randy come back!!
Amsden's the man.....
All this discussion about who’s running is way premature. Me thinks we should all hold our water until 2008. Senator Argenziano may not be going anywhere.
The Dems were unable to convince Karen Thurman to run for Nancy's Senate seat. However, Al Gore has expressed interest. He said this might be his only chance to win an election in Florida.
To all of our cautious Toms. If Ms. Argenziano makes the final list of six that goes to the governor, she is most likely going to be selected. From the St. Pete Times:
Asked if he would pick Argenziano if he gets the chance, Crist said: "If I have a chance. I don't want to get the cart before the horse on this. I'm limited by the names that are presented to me."
"I think she's a very earnest public servant, and I think she's proven herself to be a consumer advocate,"
Crist said of Argenziano. "That means a lot to me, particularly as it relates to this appointment.”
The best person to replace Baxley: Kyle Kay.
No doubt about it---Kyle is far and away the most electable local person and the best of the city council listed as possibles.
Mr. Kay is going to run for Dennis Baxley's seat? Where do I send the camp. contribution?
hold onto your hats. we are gonna have several special elections. its gonna be fun.
Kyle Kay as a replacement for Baxley is an interesting suggestion. I would venture to guess that 2-3 of the people mentioned on the various lists of possibles for the State Representative position might just drop out and swing their support over to Kay if he were to decide to enter that race. Not sure he would want to commit the time and travel required that would cause him to have to give up his much better paying day job. However, crazier things have happened in local politics.
GO GATORS!
&
VOLS TOO!
Ain't it sweet!
Kurt Kelly is not going to upset his political mentor Dennis Baxley by running against his son Damon. Kurt has much more integrity and loyalty than to do that. Doesn’t he?
Loyalty and Kurt Kelly...That's an oxymoron! Kurt Kelly is only loyal to himself! He will run and step on whomever he needs too to get what he wants! Besides, Dennis promised Kurt the seat before he put his son out for it! Maybe Dennis is just as disloyal!
I can't see Kyle quiting in the middle of his term. This is just a rumor of someone who is seriouisly bored. I would imagine he would finish his obligation to the city until his term ends.
Baxley is only loyal to himself. A shallow politico who believes he is the savior to all us ordinary citizens.
With Baxley running for Senate, does this mean he's got some kind of insight that Stearns isn't going to retire anytime soon? I've always assumed he was the heir apparent.
Does it bother anyone that Baxley based his whole recent reelection campaign on "effectiveness" and is now bailing on us? He took on the tough issues his first three terms so he could focus on the "bread and butter issues" in his last. Of course, his sponsored legislation this term is once again full of right wing and special interest fluff, with the exception of naming the bridge on 441 in honor of Judge Sweigert.
Lets not forget folks!!!! Kurt Kelly can be loyal. You just have to be a natural born leader that likes to take a .357 to school and on your way to walmart where you plan a armed robbery you first stop off at Vanguard for a little interior decorating with some paint cans!! Kurt Kelly not loyal, please.
Baxley's son. Give me a break!
Damon Baxley has zero qualifications for the House seat.
This is not the Kingdom of Baxley.
Dennis Baxley's nepotism and Kennedy like plan is sure to fail.
I would vote for Dennis in the Senate race but this "genetic right of passage" stunt he is attempting to pull has given me second thoughts.
Anyone have any suggestions for a Dem to run for Baxley's seat? Walker's leaving, Sizemore's got his eye on the county commission, leaving pretty much nobody. Someone out there has got to know a Democrat with some shred of credibility who could at least make the Republicans have to put up a fight. Anyone? Hello? Anyone?
Sorry, I don't think there is anyone. A shame but a fact.
Hey Dems, Send in Ed Dean he's the best Dem ya'll have. I'm sure at least 50% of the people in this town would love to see Charlie Christ apoint a Rep successor to fill his vacant Sheriff's seat!
Go Ed Go, straight to Tallahassee!
Speaking of Sheriff Ed Dean. I participated in a telephone political survey this evening and they had Ed Dean on the list of Democrats for the potential Senate seat of Nancy Argenziano. Also, Dwight Stancel, Karen Thurman and a guy whose name I didn’t even recognize. Someone out there in political land must believe Ed Dean is in the mix.
Survey also asked questions about the various State property tax proposals. Anyone else get a call for the survey?
Me too. Some company called the Terence (sp.) Group.
Here is a new (started March 11) website designed for voters with “centrist” leanings. It might help add to your knowledge about current issues at the state level, some of which may have impact at the local level.
www.civicconcern.org/
Keep checking the blog. Another Republican will be entering the battle to replace Mr. Baxley; a very high profile, female, non-politician who will have much support from those of us involved in education. Stay tuned.
Go Jayne Ellspermann!!
jayne will not leave the school system
I bet she could be convinced.
Stan Hanson is the moron that participated in Monroe's violation of Sunshine Law. He put more value on his ego than considering all the ill will and disruption to the fundraising and image of the Hospital. He shoots from the hip and is ok to work with as long as he gets his way.
You were right Stan who??????
The morons who created the problems were Sue Carr and the State Attorney. Stan is a good man and a great asset to the community. Oh, I left one moron out it was the the person who posted at 1136
Jayne would be just going from one zoo to another!
By the way, I know Stan Hanson. He has done a great job as the chairman of the City of Ocala Pension Plan. He would also be a great guy as a State Representative. That sunshine law stuff mentioned above is horse crap.
Can't you just see Brad Rogers trying to figure out who to endorse . . . Stan Hanson or Dennis????? That would be fun to watch.
By the way . . . do you recall how fast the state attorney decided to settle that phoney sunshine law case when the hospital hired a lawyer and decided to go to trial????
It was a phoney charge from the start and the job Hanson did in
putting together the new CEO selection was outstanding.
State Rep. Stan Hanson said . . . boy the Banner must have heart burn! Maybe they would assign Sue Carr to Tallahassee to cover the legislature! --pwf
Cretul and Hanson together in the state legislature. Man wouldn't that get the goat of some of their "haters" over here in Dunnellon? I just love it!
Anonymous @ 11:36 PM, last night (or should I address this to Ron, John, Brian, and others who “admire” me so much?):
Obviously, you don’t know me very well at all, and you really know even less about the Munroe Hospital situation you wrote about.
How about sitting down with me and let me give you an accurate accounting of what you think you know but don’t? I’ll treat you to lunch or coffee, and provide you some FACTS to correct your glaring misconceptions.
Send me an e-mail: hansons@webster.edu to set up a good time to meet. My ego can accept a face-to-face discussion. Can yours?
Jayne Ellspermann will jumb in the State Rep. seat head first! She has a huge mess on her hands at Westport that she knows she can't seem to get cleaned up! Her bailing on the School system is her only way out! The real fun will be seeing her and Kurtie duke it out!
Where is Thurow? Arn't you running for something?
I’d say Dennis Baxley will win the Senate special election. Kurt Kelly could win Baxley’s seat IF he can convince some of the Rs interested in running to stay out of that election. If not, young Damon Baxley has a good shot at winning.
We just may be in for a Baxley-Baxley dynamic duo representing Marion County!
You are very correct. It's Kelly's for the taking.
Hate to pop your ballon but I'd select "NONE OF THE ABOVE".
Thurow lost his bid for County Commission, and got beat by a no name, severely under-funded candidate for School Board. I would think that the only thing Thurow would be running for is a bus.
See the article below from a Tallahassee paper. If Nancy Argenziano is truly concerned about her district, maybe she will stay in place and protect us from Baxley.

Baxley throws hat into ring
Sen. Argenziano may vacate for Public Service Commission seat
By Jim Ash
FLORIDA CAPITAL BUREAU CHIEF
Convinced that Sen. Nancy Argenziano has a valuable appointment sewn up, a powerful House leader today jumped into the race to replace her.
Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala and the speaker pro tempore, opened a campaign account to run for Argenziano's District 3 seat.
''The point is to let people know that I'm running, not that I'm just thinking of running,'' Baxley said.
Argenziano, R-Dunnellon, is one of 12 finalists who will appear before a special Senate panel on Monday to vet nominees for two vacancies on the Public Service Commission.
The panel is expected to forward the names of six candidates to Gov. Charlie Crist to fill the pair of seats.
If Crist chooses Argenziano, and she accepts, he will have to call a special election to replace her.
''It looks like there is going to be a special election,'' Baxley said. ''Sen. Argenziano is looking like a very good candidate for the Public Service Commission.''
Baxley said the timing is good for him, and could be so for another member of his family, his 26-year-old son, Damon Baxley.
A detective with the Marion County Sheriff's Department, Damon Baxley plans next week to file for his father's seat, the lawmaker said.
''I'm humbled that my son has chosen public service,'' Baxley said.
Baxley said he recently sold his Ocala home and lives in Argenziano's sprawling district that includes all or parts of 13 counties, including Leon.
Baxley will be hampered by House rules that ban him from fundraising while the Legislature is in session. But he has little to lose. Term limits will force him to step down from the House next year.
But the primary could get dicey.
The only other declared candidate if Argenziano departs is former chief of staff for House Speaker Marco Rubio.
Richard Corcoran, also convinced that the seat will open up, left his $175,000-a-year job in the speaker's office. Senators earn about $30,000 a year.
Argenziano has declined to speculate about the PSC job, or say if she would accept it if Crist picks her, but she is widely believed to have a leg up.
Argenziano worked with Crist on consumer legislation when both served in the Legislature.
''It's bittersweet for me because I'm concerned for my district,'' Argenziano said. ''It requires real work, not just some politician who is going to come in and give these counties lip service.''
You people can keep bashing Thurow but he keeps turning out to be right about many things. Me thinks Thurow will stay involved, like it or not.
Kelly a shoe in?
You be kidding. Even his ego knows he can't overcome his rep from skool bored.
Ellspermann?
never good to have 2 same names on ballot and David wants another term or 2.
Kesselring?
Likely will go back to drawing landscaping plans.
Owen?
not after E-1.
Young Baxley?
Why? What cud he possibly claim as a record.
Whoever wins has to raise 125K or more and theyre all nonames when it comes to that kind of money.
I certainly appreciate the plugs posted above! Thanks. Politics for me is local. If it isn't a local race and it's not in my district, you will never see me running for it. I'm a die-hard homebody.
Regarding the Argenziano seat. I seriously doubt ANYBODY can get that seat without the blessing and endorsement of Nancy herself. If she does not endorse anyone, it's up for grabs BUT if she backs a candidate they will be all but a shoe in....125k or not.
Here is a paragraph from a press release announcing Mr. Baxley’s run for the State Senate:
“Dennis Baxley has been a great representative for Marion County and Ocala ,” said Ron Ewers, President of Class 1, Inc. and past chair of the Marion County Economic Development Council. “The business community of Marion County will be absolutely united in supporting his candidacy for Senate District 3.”
Note the commitment from Mr. Ewers that the local business community will be UNITED in supporting Baxley!!!!!
Here's a link to a map of Nancy's district. If Ewers thinks Baxley can win, he and Dennis better hit the highway. This is NOT an Ocala decision. In my wildest imagiantion, I can not see Nancy backing Baxleys bid for this seat.
Who knows?

Randy Ewers should be spending more time paying attention to the constant erosion of his support base. If he thinks grandstanding with the "voice" as a Mayor of the City speaking for all of the Businesses of Marion County goes to show just how big he thinks his britchs are. A silver spoon and a name can only get you so far.
Blogger commenting above. That was not Randy Ewers endorsing Dennis Baxley. It was his Father. Although, Randy Ewers probably feels the same way. After all, Baxley helped them both in their campaign to get $16 million of corporate welfare for E-One from the State's taxpayers. Tell me that didn't play some part in the elder Ewers' endorsement!
Ron Ewers doesn't speak for me and I find it offensive for him to imply he can. I'm a businessman and I speak for myself!
Absolute b... s... on his part.
Ewers also has ties financially to E-1. He just couldn't vote on it.
Ellspermann? If she can't handle a high school what makes anyone think she could do better in any other political office.
nice post by thorow at 9:36 yesterday. His thanks for his post was nice too.
How many other children does Mr Baxley have? Just wanted to know how many other seats in the legislature need to be "reserved" for the dynasty.
I wonder when he is going to introduce a bill to rename Marion County "Kingdom of the Sun" to "Kingdom of the Baxley".
News Flash:
Kurt Kelly is running for Dennis Baxley's seat. Oh, yes. That is old news. Can't wait for him to appear on Bobby D's show to plead for forgiveness about Kurt's anti-Catholic rant. Then he can go and try for Sue Mosley's forgiveness after his effort to defeat her with David Alvarez. Then his Editorial Board appearance when he tries to explain his vouching for the guys who had guns on the campus at Forest High School and held up a WalMart patron. Wonder what happened to the anointing of Kurt now that Damon Baxley is running to succeed his dad. Politics, oh politics. T'will be interestinger and interestinger.

If I have a choice between Kurt Kelly and young Damon Baxley, it is easy: I vote for Damon.
BRILLIANT!
MOSLEY TO TALLAHASSEE
BRILLIANT!!!!!!
Venture to guess she isn't interested in a state level job.
Hey PWF why don't you tell us how you really feel about Kurt Kelly? We all know that you have been holding back! The joy that you must feel that your favorite political target is about to run for office must be be just so envigorating. We all know what a sense of purpose it gives to your life to attack Mr Kelly. Your typical yellow journalism way of attacking is fun for all to read but please that memory of yours does leave a bit to be desired. So please keep track of your attack subjects. The redundancy and duplication can be so boring. When for example you mischaracterize events as you have just done keep a list and cross it off. Is that too much to ask? Here let me get you started .. "The Kelly family are actually aliens from another planet" see.. done cross it off.....
Don't fret!
PWF doesn't have a thing to worry about. Kelly doesn't have a chance against Damon Baxley, or for that matter a couple of others who might be in the race to replace Dennis. My hope is that Sue Mosley sees the light of day and decides to run. Now that would be fun.
ANON @ 3:41,
You wouldn't be Kurt's Mommy would you?
anon 5:53
You wouldent happen to be Sue Mosleys sugar daddy would you i mean everyone else on the blog seems to be.
Nope, I’m no sugar daddy. I’m much too happily married, with a great family for that!
I find it interesting that every time an attractive, young and successful female becomes a community leader, there is a small minded group who tries to claim sleeping around got her where she is. Around here most all of these claims are made by unattractive, older, less successful and jealous women who just can’t accept the hand life has dealt them. Too bad they are so unhappy and vindictive. Maybe some of them should become “sugar mommies”---might change their disposition.
I know Sue Mosley well enough that I won’t let smarmy sugar daddy accusations like you made influence me. Some of Kurt Kelly’s antics, that’s a much different story.
Let's put this particular house race in perspective. If the Dems can't come up with a candidate, it's decided in a Rep primary. The turnout for these special elections is horrible, especially the special primaries. Let's say we've got a five way race of serious candidates (Damon, Kurtie, Stan Hanson, Kesselring, Amsden), it might only take 1500-2000 votes to win this thing. This isn't a race that's going to cost $100,000. If I'm running for this seat, I get a list of people who vote in every election, go through the list and find every name on the list that I know and make a personal phone call and ask them to come out and vote. That's all the campaigning you need to do. So, for all you politicos out there, think about how many friends and family you have that you can count on to come out and vote and do the math.
This from a post to a popular political blog in Tampa:
"Wouldn't it be a hoot if Nancy Argenziano decided to stay in the Senate. How embarrasing for all those premature declarers!"
What would Dennis Baxley's mini-me say to when they answer the phone?
Vote for me because that's the way it's done in the Kingdom of Baxley.
Jackie Wilson,
Don't forget if no other candidates but Republicans enter the campaign to replace Baxley, then it will be an open election and everyone can vote, including the Dems. That could change things.

The real reason why the older baxley wont run
Anon at 11:33 AM, March 26, 2007
comments ion an open primary in case no dems qualify. You can bet the GOP will put a write in or have someone qualify as a dem to keep it closed. Has happened before, and will happen again.

Anon at 3:41 PM, March 25, 2007 objects to my characterization of Kurt. Give me an example of where I am wrong and I will apologize. I could have added his desire to water down Jessica's Law to allow people charged with a crime to go on school campuses, but he didn't get very far with that one. But maybe he can explain that one on Bobby D's show too. Meanwhile, attack me instead of showing where I am off. Remember, I have had professionals after me in the past, so I can handle you. And wait until the cops take off the gloves and tell what they think of his antics.--pwf
"Argenziano Advances in PSC Bid"
State Sen. Nancy Argenziano is a step closer to joining the Public Service Commission.
She was one of six people selected Monday afternoon by the Joint Committee on Public Service Commission Oversight. The others are Manuel Arisso, Beverly DeMello, Jeremy Susac, James R. Kelly and Nathan Skop.
The names now go to Gov. Charlie Crist, who will pick two.
The local political wars are just one step closer to beginning!
Ok PWF what are your "facts" re Kelly and Lunsford act? Lets see if you can stick to one charge at a time with facts and specificity. Not rumor, not yellow journalism just facts. Or are you going to continue the game of misdirection?
Ball in your court. Remember who what when etc.......
Checked out the map of Senator Argenziano’s district Mr. Thurow provided. Her district has only a piece of Marion County, mainly SW Marion. Except for a small piece (around Belleview) SW Marion is all Cretul country. Mr. Baxley better have Rep. Cretul on his side if he wants to make headway in a territory he doesn’t currently represent. Having Mr. Cretul’s backing, especially on our 200 corridor where Mr. Baxley has never had to win votes as a state Rep., will be important to his election. He will need every vote he can get from SW Marion in a district of 300,000+ voters of which 55% are Democrats.
And they probably won't have a candidate for the Baxley House seat either. The Dems are a real political machine in Marion County.
You want George Bush style representation in Tallahassee for Marion County? Then vote for the Baxley duo or Kurt Kelly. They are all clones with the same dangerous political genetic defect as Bush.
The SR 200 Corridor isn't anywhere near close to 55% Democratic. Someone pulled a number straight out of their hindquarters. According to the Supervisor's District Demographic Analysis for the '06 Elections, Ds make up 36%, Rs 46%, Is 11%, and Os 7% of the 200 Corridor.
Now, Cretul's overall district, which includes portions Alachua and Levy Counties, has more Democrats than Republicans.
Whoops, my apologies to the anonymous poster who used the 55% figure. They were referring to Argenziano's entire district, NOT the 200 Corridor. Again, my apologies.
One thing you have to keep in mind is that Argenziano's district includes a lot of North Florida counties which are vastly Dixiecrat voters. Its far more Republican than numbers would have anyone believe.
Yep, North Florida numbers are just right for Charlie Dean. Sorry, Dennis.
This race will not be about D's and R's. Ocala and Marion County politics are a side show for this race. They don't matter that much.
The people in Nancy's district really love what she has done for them. They don't want her to leave. It's about who will continue her work and who she will endorse. She may not endorse anyone but I'm sure she might "prefer" one candidate over another. That's all it will take.
If Argenziano endorses someone, it certainly won't be Dennis Baxley. They've had some tussles before. She knows Dennis is way too extreme for the district. I think she'll definitely work behind the scenes for Charlie Dean, if not endorse him outright. Corcoran is too close to Rubio and the Baxley wing of the party.
Word is that the Dems will put former representative Dwight Stansel up for Argenziano's seat. He's a good old boy from somewhere around Live Oak. He was just term limited out last year, and his old seat has some significant over lap with this senate seat. He's a real Old Florida Democrat. I think he co-sponsored some of Baxley's gun laws. He'll take the rural counties hands down if he gets into this.
I wouldn't say that Rubio is part of the Baxley wing of the party. He's not a right winger. He's pretty darned conservative, but he's no Bible thumper. I think they're encouraging Baxley to get into this race to get rid of him.
Jackie,
Think you may be wrong about Stancel. Everything I read says he will run for Tax Collector in his home county and has stated he has no interest in the Senate. He can make 2-3 times the Senate salary and not have the headaches he went through for eight years in T-Town.
Also, agree with you Baxley and Rubio aren't in the same league on political philosophy.
However, it might be interesting to have Baxley in the Senate to counter some of the liberal Republicans they have. I can see some sparks flying in that group if Baxley were there.
I have one very important question I'm going to ask all of the politicians running for Dennis Baxley's House seat:
"What is your position on using taxpayer money to give incentives to keep E-One in Ocala?"
The answer will determine who I vote for.
Here we go again...okay if you are going to bash Kelly again, then Mosley is fair game as well. She needs to get her home life in order before ever thinking of running. If you think dirt was slung on this little blog, just wait until until the big dogs get a hold of her...no way will they put up with the "I'm a grandmother" bit. May fool the local yocals but not on the state level.
Won't be an issue, cause she ain't gonna run for anything.
Kelly is the one who better be ready for the "big dogs" and PWF may not even be part of that group. He has quite a "record" for the big dog consultants from Tallahassee to examine & critique. You can be sure of that!
WOOF!---WOOF!
Uh Oh. Someone let the pit bulls out.
I believe Mosley has handled her homelife situation, she now joins the ranks of SEVERAL other local politicians and is divorced!Check it out for yourself. Start with Nancy Argenziano's marital status, the big wigs don't seem to have a problem with her!
and Charlie Christ''s homelife is.....
So what's your point?
divorced and part owner of a nite spot with owens and bobby tillinder. Now that's a combo for a good catholic girl, divorced and a night club owner.
Could have been worse---an adult book store! LOL
Whoever stated all the local politicians were divorced........I can only come up with 2. Owens and Peyton. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......
Whats this Owens and Mosely own a night spot??? This is not suprising.
Oh my God! Who cares!
Oh the Rumors! It might not be surprizing, but, it's not true!
Divorced politicians....
Sheriff Ed Dean,
Barbara Fitos,
Charlie Stone,
Jim Peyton
George Albright,
Sue Mosley,
Judi Zanetti,
Daniel Owen,
Charlie Ruse,
Christine Dubkowski
Willma Loar &
Mayor Tammy Moore
12 outta abt 37-40 elected officials tween all city councils, county, schools, const officers and reps and sens . . .
not bad. even below the almost half who get unhitched.
Get ready for a big political surprise. Kurtie Kelly and Damon Baxley will “make a deal”. Damon will drop out and support Kurtie. As it looks today, that would leave Kurtie unopposed on the Republican side, and if no Democrat enters the picture he will win the State Rep. position by default. In return, Kurtie will give his full personal support to Dennis Baxley for State Senator and encourage his massive list of Catholic supporters in the Marion part of Senate District 3 to do the same.
Seems incredible, but may very well play out to be reality!
The wonderful possibility here is that both Kurt and Dennis could be out of a job in a couple of months. I'm giddy with excitement.
Kurt Kelly with Catholic supporters, who are you kidding. Politicians are running from Mr. Kelly because of his negative comments about Catholics
to Jackie Wilson - maybe you don't care about the morals of our elected officials, but some of us do. Espeically when they throw it in our faces about what good Cathlics they are. Oh, I forgot. All you have to do is go to confession and your sins are forgiven (as long as you don't repeat the sin)? Enlighten me; what part of the 10 Commandments is not in the Catholic Bible? Sorry but I hold our elected officials to a higher standard.
Kelly unopposed. Please Lord, tell me it ain't so!
Argenziano's seat, as well as Baxley's, will come down to money. It's as simple as that. Turnout will be minimal. Argenziano's seat is so widespread, the winner will easily be the candidate who can contact the most voters.
seems to be a lot of truth to that political payoff theory. kelly is working hard to reestablish a relationship with baxley, working to get mosley to "forgive" him, and thinks he has a real shot that dennis will double cross the people with his son and kurt.
Well PWF ran under his rock when challenged for facts re Kelly and Lunsford act. See another PWF smear job... Let see if anon's Kellys "negative comments about Catholics " holds up to the truth test.. So anon what did Kelly say? when did he say it? or are you just making it up as you go too?
I never thought I would say this as a Republican. I would vote for Randy Harris over Kurt Kelly any day of the week. Now someone just needs to convince Randy to run. IMO, he could take Kelly out in a special election primary. So would Sue Mosley, but she isn't likley going to run. Too bad on both counts.
This just in: Darlene Weesner will become a candidate on the Dem side to replace Baxley .
Darlene's statement: "there was never a Republican I wouldn't oppose."
LOL--However, may not be a bad idea!
Darlene vs Kurt. She might finally win an election.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK OUT HOW SHE DID AGAINST PAYTON IN THE PRECINCTS IN BAXLEY'S CURRENT HOUSE DISTRICT. VERY INTERESTING!
Don’t joke about Darlene. She could be the Marion County legislative delegations replacement for the “Water Lady” (Nancy Argenziano). Weesner might be just as aggressive (or more so) about water conservation as Argenziano has been. Kelly and some of the other candidates mentioned would probably negotiate our water rights away for personal political advancement.
Don’t forget, Weesner is a former teacher she also knows first hand the problems we have with education.
Under a rock, eh??? When I post, I post under my OWN name. And you post as Anonymous and claim I am under a rock! What a phoney fraud.
I do have a life and dont read or post on this blog or any other every day. Sometimes I have important things to do for several days at a time, like this past few days.
As for your questions, first about Catholics which I have posted before and which was repeated by another anon . . . ask yourself/ son/brother/friend if you/he did not go and talk to Bobby D and Father O about his stupid anti-Catholic comments. You/he have already admitted to those.
As for your question about Jessica's law, as yourself/ son/brother/friend if you/he did not go to Tallahassee and inquire of a legislator (while on our dime on school business) about changing the law to allow people who have been charged but not yet convincted of a crime from working on a school campus.
As a Christian, if you/he denies these, I will have to go back to the people who were stunned at your/his comment/action and see if they want to now say it didn't happen.
But certainly, you can not deny your/his effort to censure Ocala city cops for doing their job at Vanguard, and since the official minutes of the court session show you/he did appear as vice chairman of the Marion County School Board and go against the recommendation of the state and juvenile officials to get someone who violated the no tolerance anti gun law of the school system (you/he may have even made the motion to impose that no tolerance policy) released from custody. These kids then were nailed for botching an armed robbery with the same gun.
So out from under the rock I am.
Let me know when you have the courage of your convinctions and ae willing to sign your name. Until then, I could care less about your thoughts. --pwf
I have to admit it....with Nancy possibly leaving (and no other Republican worth a hoot) I'll support Weesner for this seat.
This is a good development if it's true.
Go Darlene!
Kurt Kelly would be more interested in weakening Jessica’s Law and finding ways for kids from wealthy families who commit crimes be given special breaks in court than he would on protecting our water or environment.
Come on Darlene, get your political boxing gloves out again. Could be the time has come for you to win!
Interesting speculation about Ms. Weesner. Not likely to happen.
PWF:
Who do you think is posting all these negative comments about your blog comments? Could it be some of the Kelly family or has Ocala Slim come back and is posting incognito?
Old news from the Kingdom of Baxley:
Gov. Bush appointed Justin Baxley, 26, of Belleview to the Florida Board of Funeral, Cemetery, and Consumer Services, for a term beginning October 1, 2005 and ending September 30, 2009.
And mini-me (Damon) would make three in Tallahassee!
FYI I do not post under ANY NAME but Ocala Slim. As long as Puffer (pwf) stays out of hospital business which he knows NOTHING about I have NADA to say to him or about him. I will ad that if he starts ANY character asassination on ANY candidate for political reasons I'll get VERY NASTY again.
Until then KISSES!!!!
Ah Shucks!
Ocalaslim, I was looking forward to hearing from you again. Taking shots at PWF isn't nearly as useful or interesting as lending your insight on local politics.
Ok PWF point one on your list of Kelly bashing
"stupid anti Catholic comments"
Never was admitted to.. and since you offered to go back and check your "facts" why don't we start with the man of the cloth. After you talk to Father 'O' (since he will emphatically deny any such action on the part of Mr Kelly) I/we/all will be awating the first
of many
"Give me an example of where I am wrong and I will apologize." statements from you, the purveyor of truth.
Who really cares Ms. Kelly. You and Kurtie better worry about Damon and possibly a new candidate next week.
If forced to pick between Damon and Kurtie, I go with Damon. A young, true conservative and real Christian.
Dear slim,
I was working on hospital business in 1958, so I will put knowledge of hospital affairs way ahead of anything you might offer any time, any day. Besidesm, your attacks me on last eyar had nothing to do with hospital business.
As for comments on candidates, what is the matter . . . they can not defend their actions I call them to task for and have to hide behind you and an anonymous name?
Wanna talk and compare notes about the issues? come out and be brave and we will discuss issues. Til then, go ahead attack me. but the blog is for real issues. Stay sweet.
--pwf
Slim has just been ZAPPED!!
At least we all know who PWF is. How about you SLIM, tell us who you are and we can then compare your credibility with that of PWF.
PWF - When have you ever called a candidate or should I say, the candidates you BASH, and asked THEM to lunch to clear up any issues you have with them? Is it because they may actually tell you the truth and then you wouldn't have anything to moan about? Making your "personal invitations to sit down with you" or "calling them to task" on this blog, doesn't mean squat. Most of the candidates don't read this gossip anyway. If you have such a problem with Kurt, why not be a man and meet with him face to face?
Is that you again Ms. Kelly?
Remember this post. Baxley will not leave his position in the House to run for Senate. He will serve his complete term. Kesselring, Kelly (that name pains me), Baxley jr., and whoever else would dare to run will just have to wait.
The good news with this? We won't have to watch Kurt Kelly campaign and tell us how great he is and all the wonderful things he has done for the children. The bad news? We wont get to watch Kurt Kelly campaign and tell us how great he is and all the wonderful things he has done for the children so we can then turn out and VOTE AGAINST him!!
Remember this post.
What you talking about? Is this some kind of April Fools joke, a day late? No way will Baxley not run! Whatcha inhaling?
Anon asks "Anonymous said...

Mrs/Mr/Ms Kelly, I have probably had more lunches with candidates thru the years than anyone else in ocalaa, and I will be happy to sit down with you/he/them anytime anywhere. Fear I have not. You naem the time and place and I will be there 30 minuets early. And you would be surprised at how many candidates read the blog.
PWF- Sorry to dissapoint you but I am not related to the Kelly's nor have I ever met his mother. Contrary to your opinion, there are others out there that don't feel the same way you do about Mr. Kelly. I do appreciate your invitation to lunch, coffee or whatever, but I am not running for office, nor do I care to. Nor do I need any advice from you. So, AGAIN I say, your invitations on this blog means nothing. It's easy to say you would "sit down with them anytime; anyplace" however, you will not make that effort other than your "open" invitation on this blog.
By the way, it's about time your buddy on the school board got divorced. I'm sure you were there to hold her hand.
PWF
I assume from your silence that Father O did not confirm your slander against Mr Kelly.
Or, are you going to squirm your way out of the corner you painted yourself into?
Suggest you get some counseling. Better yet, maybe you should stay off the blog. No one should be exhibiting the degree of personal hate, contempt and disdain for another individual that you do.
By the way, there are many parents who do not believe Mr. Kelly has done a good job on the School Board. We view him as a big talker who doesn't produce results. His constant pontificating is boring.
This is what makes politics interesting. We all view politicians differently based on our own personal critera.
Our School Board is a disaster and ALL of the five current members are involved in the inadequacy of the education my kids are receiving. Home schooling is looking better and better for our kids.
In my view, Mr. Kelly would bring no more to the table as a state legislator than he has as a School Board member.
What Mr. Kelly has or has not said about Catholics is of no concern to me. What he is not doing about education is!
I challenge anyone to watch an entire school board meeting on TV and not drift into a state of deep depression. The most depressing award is shared by RC and KK. Get rid of those two jokers and get a couple more gals on that board.
Hey folks, lighten up!
Go Gators!
NATIONAL CHAMPIONS - AGAIN!
Correction: you shuduva written what kally has done TO education is!
Dennis Baxley not running for State Senate? are you kidding?
I’m for trying three women and two men on the School Board for a change. We’ll have our chance as soon as Kurt Kelly leaves in a month or two.
hey roflmao,
You asked what I was inhalin'? How bout nothin' but truth baby.
Baxley will not run for Argenziano's seat. No april fools just truth.
Read Argenziano's comments. Not the sole reason he will not run just a part. He will delay his run Senate for a year. Better yet, don't be suprised if/when he takes a run at Stearns.
Again I say to you roflmao and all, remember this post.
Interesting! I think you have something here. Why don't you place your comment on the new section about Argenziano so more people might see it and comment?
I'm new to the candidates and their alleged missteps. Could someone put up the web address of any articles (and no you tube videos although they were funny) about Mr Kelly's purported anti catholic remarks and about the E-1 issue.
Thanks
I'm for Dean and Kelly!!!!
Baxley is a joke (and his mini-me too)!!!
I had the privilege yesterday of getting to know Damon Baxley. He may be young, but his passion and sincere concern for our citizens, our state and our natural resources shine through. He has no ulterior motive or hidden agenda. He has for some years been dedicating his life towards helping others. A finer voice for us in Tallahassee we could not have. Damon Baxley is incorrigible.
