Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

E-One Incentives On Track To Approval?

The Ocala City Council voted tonight to send the city's $4.5 million portion of the proposed "save E-One" package to the Economic Improvement Fund committee for financial review.

Do you think this is the first step on the road to approval, or just a typical political ploy to take the heat off City Council for awhile?

Tell us what you think.

I read on another blog that the cost of the E One financing would only be about $1.40 per parcel, per year for each city taxpayer. That seems reasonable to me to save 1300 jobs.

Won't matter what the city and county do. Understand the issue is that the state's part of the deal is "inadequate" and likely to kill everything.

On ending corporate welfare: For all their talk about free markets and concern for the working class, local politicians for the past 50 years in Florida have institutionalized corporate welfare and special privilege.

It is amazing how the Republicans and Democrats have coddled incentives as a cheap and easy form of vote buying. There’s really no work involved. It’s always a painless process that costs everyone so little in the short term only to avalanche as the decades roll by. If $ 1.40 a parcel sounds reasonable then multiply that by the mountains of incentive and subsidies taxpayer already fork over every day.

Corporations are not the root of all evil, as some Democrats think. But if we believe in market competition ,as the Republicans proudly proclaim we shouldn’t be doling out taxpayer subsidies that distort the market, bloat local budgets, and invite corruption all at the same time.

It is time to end corporate welfare as we know it. All of us knew it was right to reform the broken welfare system for single mothers, who responded heroically by going to work and welcoming their independence. Ending corporate welfare will have the same impact on both the political and the business world. If we level the playing field by abolishing unnecessary subsidies, we’ll advance the general welfare and be in a much stronger position for the national and global competition ahead.

The State's part is inadequate to the tune of about $9 million!

Comment made by an E-One employee at last nights Council meeting:

"Look at the cars that we buy. That's not chump change. Those trucks ain't cheap. This is not an ordinary job."

So I’m supposed to cough up my tax money so the E-One employees can continue to buy fancy vehicles. I’m driving an 11 year old truck and can’t afford a new one and they want me to support their vehicle purchases. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

The statements by the pres of e1 are at best phoney and at worst a lie. He claims he didnt say they were gonna downsize to 900, but folks who know say it came from his mouth. he doesnt give a damn about his employees and we know it.

Someone tell me where this $1.40 per parcel tax estimate came from.

The $ 1.40 per parcel is another EDC "factoid". How does it feel to have your own tax money used against you to be given to someone else?

Figured it out. The $1.40/parcel has to be PER MONTH on our taxes, not per year.

A good friend of mine did some research on what kind of corporate citizen E-One has been to our community in terms of donations to United Way, Community With A Heart, etc.

The answer: he was unable to find any contributions the "corporation" has given. So why should we give to them?

plausible deniability, n. a cover story: a scenario carefully prepared in advance with which one can lie oneself out of a tight spot.

Does this not cover a lot of what has been disseminated? Not disseminated by E-None, who remains behind the curtain (see, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, circa, 1900), but by others who can be "distanced"* if they become inconvenient?

* "Distanced": wordspeak from the "Words of Watergate,", circa, 1997

This E-None deal smells foul.

Sort of like saying they were downsizin to 900 and when they ran into stuff from city fathers they denied they ever said 900. "i dunno where that figure came from...

I imagine there are many businesses in our County who don't contribute to charties, etc. However, I would guess there are many of the 1300 E-One employees who do. That's also very important.

That $1.40 figure on the cost per parcel-tax to pay for e-one is a bogus figure. I have looked through all the data on the EDC website about e-one and can't find anything about $1.40

I attended the City Council meeting about E-One on Tuesday and being new here have to wonder how in the hell did the Council Chairlady ever get elected. She can’t even run a meeting and I’m told she has been in office for quite awhile. I don’t have to ask why is our local government so screwed up---got my answer on Tuesday!
