E-One Incentives: 66% Say “NO”
FINAL RESULTS (101 bloggers responding).
Poll Question: Should E-One be offered taxpayer-supported economic advantages in the range of $26 million to keep it from leaving Marion County?
Yes 34%
No 66%
We conducted a similar poll on 12/06 (91 participants) and the result was 48% Yes --- 52% No. It looks like there is now much less support for the economic incentives.
What do you think?
(1) Will E-One stay or go?
(2) Will the way politicians voted on the E-One issue have any political repercussions? Or, will it be a “non-issue” by the time the next elections come around?

Ridiculous!!
More like 80% against. There are some real bleeding hearts taking this poll.
Forgot: E-One stays. Got a great deal why move.
whipsaw...whipsaw...whipsaw...whipsaw...whipsaw............
Blogman,
Your Homeless poll is totally reverse from the newspaper’s poll in the morning paper! Their question was a little different and focused only on the city of Ocala decision. The paper’s poll results were in line with the way the Star-Banner has been heavily “advertising” how they wanted politicians to vote. Interesting.
Why is it interesting?
I’m sure there was a get out the vote effort so that the City Council who voted yes would not look so stupid. I would wager my life that most of the yes votes in the Blunder’s poll came from the paper’s best fan club, the employees of E-1. To quote a saying, “question everything”.
I could care less about either of the polls. My gut tells me that many of my friends and work associates are not at all happy with giving money to a big corporation.
Will any politicians pay? You can bet your ass---anyone who voted for it will!
E-1 stays. They will never get a better deal from anyplace in the U.S.
Profitable corporations should never get money from any government, (federal, state or local). Any elected official that votes to give E(vil)-One thier extortion demands will never get my vote.

"Ruse, Kay, Stone and MacClain. These guys can run for any office in the County they want and they will win."
I couldn't agree more. Stone, Kay and McClain have really impressed me.
(1) “Political Repercussions?” Remember how the library was used as a campaign issue against candidates in the county commissioner races a couple of years ago? My political prediction, the E-One issue will be a major rallying point in attempting to defeat any politician who supported giving retention incentives to E-One. Politicians who voted for the E-One deal had better be ready for a major battle when they next run for office.
A political consultant and I discussed what kind of negative political advertising strategy might be used. There are several options, all much more truthful and factually impacting than those used to bring down Parnell Townley. Opposing corporate welfare and greed is much easier for more voters to jump on and support than is opposing a book(s) in a library. Additionally, many of those who supported Parnell’s position on the library (that may have lost him the election) seem to be against the E-One deal. Opposing big corporations in this day and age, and with the population demographics of Marion County, is a no brainer!
As another blogger commented, I am also not too interested in straw poll results. My “community sensing” is that opposition to the E-One deal is in the same category of negative public reaction as was the sales tax increase when it was defeated last year.
(2) “Stay or Go?” A few weeks ago I was in the camp that E-One would definitely stay if it received government financial incentives. Now, I’m in the 50/50 camp. As someone already mentioned, the fact the deadline for making the decision imposed by Federal Signal now seems much less important is not good news. Could the corporate moguls be taking more time to shop the firm deal they have or using it to boost other packages offered? Having been on the corporate side of the fence in a couple of similar situations, it’s very probable.
Nothing but a case of holding us and the employees hostage. A sorry bunch of management.
Don't worry, our un-conflicted Mayor Ewers will veto the City Council's Vote......
YEAH. And Kesselring will win his race for the house seat against Guinn.
What you been smokin????
Neither of these guys has a chance in a primary. They will split the Republican moderate vote and be beaten by a conservative Republican with a good base. I would expect a surprise entry. Most likely a young, conservative Republican with good name recognition from a long-time local family. That person doesn’t have any political baggage, as do Guinn and Kesselring. Both have a lot of bad votes on their records, including one recently.
Well, I hate to say this, but I told you guys the E-One financial package to stay in Ocala was going to get approved. Word at E-One is they are staying. My contacts tell me the employees are feeling much, much better about things now. The delay has nothing to do with looking for a better offer. It is just a board of directors scheduling misunderstanding in the communications. I thank all of those who had the courage to help the employees.
I agree with your prediction Stan. I would add a qualifier. If E-One leaves Ocala, then I would guess how elected officials voted will be of lesser importance. Other than 4 guys and 2 ladies with egg on their face from allowing themselves to be used to benefit Federal Signals negotiations, I don’t think it will be a game breaker in an election. Though I could be wrong. If E-One stays and the money for them starts being used, we have a whole new ball game at election time.
My guess, E-One stays.
Steve explains the latest E-One flap by saying " It is just a board of directors scheduling misunderstanding in the communications".
And you think the Board of Directors of a NYSE company dioes not have a schedule for its meetings?
This was simply another false statement from E-One management to force a quick vote. Even the biggest E-One supporters I know say you can not believe management. --pwf
So why would you give money to someone you can't trust? A big mistake! We'll see who gets bit on the butt with this decision.
Guess I should have taken the poll. I along with the many others I know would have voted NO. “Question everything” should apply to ALL polls—yes, even the blog’s poll. Although, I would trust it a bit more than the one done by the paper.

We now know the name of that young Republican who will seriously disrupt the plans of Guinn and Keselring. It is "Damon Baxley", 26 year old son of Rep. Dennis Baxley. Yep, Guinn and Kesselring are in for a fight!
Baxley Jr. Now thats what we need. Another bible thumper professing to speak for god. God help us from your followers!
My final take on the E-One Entitlement:
NONE OF US ARE ENTITLED TO CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT GUARANTEED BY THE GOVERNMENT. THIS IS ONE MORE ENTITLEMENT PROGRAM ADDING TO THE EXPANSION AND COST OF GOVERNMENT. GOVERNMENT DOES NOT SOLVE PROBLEMS, THEY JUST SUBSIDIZE THEM!
Oh and I failed to add my humble opinion on Brad Rogers column in the Sunday paper:
WHAT A LOAD OF HORSE SHIT!
So sorry Brad but you're so far out there I'm beginning to worry about you. Really dude. You worry me. Really.
The local public hospital is hard at work trying to keep costs down, improve quality of care and do the best it can without burdening the taxpayers with more taxes to support the hospital. Yet, local politicians can just sign away $26 million to support a private, inefficient business. I’d send the E-One folks back to their offices and tell them to get their costs and business in order! A S-B letter-to-the-editor says it all:
“Munroe Qualifies”
Concerning recent articles about Emergency One and Munroe Regional Medical Center's health care, and all this concern about E-One and the handout they are looking for, let's consider Munroe Regional.
They have 2,500 employees, have been here and will remain here forever. They are a necessity in this county and Central Florida. They are top of the line in many categories: heart and cardiovascular, labor and delivery, etc. They are much more important and needed in this community than E-One.
But because of their services to the public and government cutbacks, they are in the red big time, millions and millions of unpaid debts. But you have to admire CEO Steve Purves. After giving his presentation to the County Commission, he never asked for a dime.
If you had to choose, who should be given assistance? It's a no-brainer.
Steve P. Dube
Ocala
Quote of the day:
"Those who want to go directly to hell, they can follow capitalism,
And those of us who want to build heaven here on earth, we will follow socialism."
Hugo Chavez
I haven't a clue who Steven Dube is, but his letter to Brad Rogers should makew the Star Banner rethink their positions on E-One and on their ritualistic harranging of Munroe Regional.
Good job, Steven Dube whoever you are. --pwf
I think some of the polticians made a big mistake when they gave in to E-One.
