Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

Argenziano Says “NO” to Baxley as Her Replacement!

Dennis Baxley will not get the support of a very important person in his campaign to replace Nancy Argenziano as State Senator. Senator Argenziano has effectively thrown her rather weighty support to State Representative Charlie Dean over Baxley and Richard Corcoran, all Republicans running to replace her. Here is what Senator Argenziano had to say:

"I would never presume to tell anybody who to vote for, but I'd tell them who I'm going to vote for," she said. "In good conscience, the only one that I can say is more representative of this district that I feel will do a better job is Charlie Dean."

There have been recent comments on the Blog that Baxley might drop out of the Senate race. If there is truth to those comments, could Argenziano’s endorsement of Dean be a reason?

Tell us what you think:

Will Argenziano's blessing of Dean have any influence on the campaigns of those vying to replace her?

Also, please feel free to use this thread to continue the discussion that was started in the thread below concerning the domino effect of the Senate race on our local politics. That thread is getting a bit long and difficult to navigate, so now might be a good time to offer you some “fresh” blogging space.

Let's hear from you.

If I was in Baxley’s shoes, I would hold my powder until 2008 and run for the Senate seat held by Evelyn Lynn. He would have a much better chance for her spot.

Charlie Dean describing his competition for the Senate position:

In a copy of his announcement speech, Dean alluded to Corcoran as "a political carpetbagger from Tallahassee" and Baxley as "a funeral director from the other side of Marion County."

Don’t you just love it!

Argenziano's opinion means nothing. She has lost the respect of many voters in her district. Her support of Dean may be good for Baxley.

Remember this post. Baxley will not leave his position in the House to run for Senate. He will serve his complete term. Kesselring, Kelly (that name pains me), Baxley jr., and whoever else would dare to run will just have to wait.

The good news with this? We won't have to watch Kurt Kelly campaign and tell us how great he is and all the wonderful things he has done for the children. The bad news? We wont get to watch Kurt Kelly campaign and tell us how great he is and all the wonderful things he has done for the children so we can then turn out and VOTE AGAINST him!!

Remember this post.

hey roflmao,

You asked what I was inhalin'? How bout nothin' but truth baby.

Baxley will not run for Argenziano's seat. No april fools just truth.

Read Argenziano's comments. Not the sole reason he will not run just a part. He will delay his run Senate for a year. Better yet, don't be suprised if/when he takes a run at Stearns.

Again I say to you roflmao and all, remember this post.

Here you go folks. I was asked to put this on this thread. Notice my comments on Monday. Sorry Kurtie, you will have to continue your ineffective seat of the schoolboard for another year. Better yet, you may try and actually do something over the next year besides pat yourself on the back.

Dennis aint going anywhere

Not to mention the fact that he's already devoted $100K of his own money to the race. I just don't understand how he would just simply walk away and wait for another Republican to take the seat.

Well Pwf this may be a new thread but we are wating for your news worthy confirmation of your "facts" re Kelly. I believe your first call was to Father 'O'. I/we/all hope your promise for an apology when you went back to verify your "facts" was not limited to the other thread.

It’s so nice that Argenziano does not support the expansion of the Baxley empire.

Good grief!
Dennis Baxley in the Senate
His Mini-me son Damon in the House
And Justin Baxley who at the ripe old age of 26 with his many many years of experience was appointed by Gov. Bush to the Florida Board of Funeral, Cemetery, and Consumer Services

With all of those Baxleys in Tallahassee it would no longer be called a legislative session.
Instead, it will be known as the Baxley family meeting.

BAXLEY ENDORSEMENTS

Dennis Baxley received endorsements from two state senators on Wednesday: Carey
Baker, R-Eustis, and Steve Wise, R-Jacksonville.

Baker and Wise are among the legislature’s most conservative members, as is Baxley. Expect more endorsements and maneuvering.

To me, it doesn't look like Baxley is planning to get out of the picture.

Argenziano is a bit presumptuous in endorsing someone to replace her. However, maybe our new Governor and she have engaged in some intimate political foreplay and he has whispered into her ear that she is the love of his heart. Could be she already knows the job is hers and feels confident to crown the next king of her District.

KURT KELLY A CANDIDATE

“School Board member Kurt Kelly announced today he intends to run for the Florida House of Representatives District 24 seat that will eventually be vacated by Dennis Baxley, whether in the near-future or in 2008.

Kelly said he officially filed with the state Division of Elections today, which means he intends to run for Baxley’s seat and can begin raising campaign funds until he can officially qualify for the seat.”

He knows where and to whom he said it. Covering for "good white kids" who got caught just before they planned to vandalize Vanguard? He and the folks involved know the "facts". Keep your head in the sand about Kurt. Thats what all good baptists do.

MORE SUPPORT FOR BAXLEY

Every Republican on the Marion county commission is backing Dennis Baxley. He also picked up a couple constitutional officers. Today's endorsers:

Stan McClain, Chairman of the Marion County Commission
Charlie Stone, Vice-Chairman of the Marion County Commission
Jim Payton, Immediate Past Chairman of the Marion County Commission
Andy Kesselring, Marion County Commission
George Albright, Marion County Tax Collector
Jim Yancey, Marion County Superintendent of Schools

Sorry bloggers but those are local yocal's. Fat Boy Baxley is going to need a lot more than those guys blessing and he knows that. Us Democrats like those endorsements. We're going to love watching as Dean and Baxley spill each others blood. It'll be a big turnoff for the voters. Of course Jesus is on Baxleys side so that may make a difference.

At 6:54 PM, April 05, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Typical of the Democrats. Sit on their fat asses on the sideline and do nothing. Where is your candidate? Or are you too afraid to get clobbered by the "survivor" of Dean vs. Baxley? This is why your local party is so pathetic.

Sit and critique, offer nothing in the way of a competitive candidate and watch the Republicans stay in control at the State and local levels.

Go ahead, make my day!

4 Republican County Commissioners and 2 Const. Officers endorsing Baxley. Not a big deal! What I would like to know is how many of them had to hold their nose to give an endorsement? More important how many can/will actually vote for him? I’d wager only 2.

Most of us local yokels could care less what these 6 guys think. Their endorsement may actually turn off a few voters. It did me, and I can vote in this election.

By the way, where is David Ellspermann’s endorsement? He may be the smartest of the group if he has decided to stay silent. Maybe he has integrity.

At 8:15 PM, April 05, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Leave it to Baxley to be running around getting endorsements and promoting his mini-me son when he should be spending all of his time using his political seniority to benefit Marion County. Alas he is so lost without Gov Bush telling him what to do. So don't be surprised when all we get from Tallahassee for Marion County is the crumbs that fall off the table..... AGAIN! Actually we will be lucky to even get that since his has other Counties mouths to feed to in preparation for his coronation. He is already making deals for his new district that leaves the rest of us in Marion County on the outside looking in....... Don’t ya just love it!

At 9:08 PM, April 05, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So maybe a non-Marion countian might pay more attention to us than one of our own. Most take their home county for granted anyway. Baxley has sure done that with us for many years!

If Governor Crist tells us he wants to work with Baxley in the Senate and endorses him, I'm with Baxley. I know Jeb would have probably leaned toward Baxley--want to see if Crist will do the same. Otherwise, I'll go with Senator Argenziano's pick--Charlie Dean. I trust her opinion over all the other endorsements of the candidates.

"Code enforcement is like the traffic cop on the street," Ruse said. "Everybody wants the traffic cop to slow people down until their kid gets pulled over for speeding. Then they want the cop to go easy."

Kelly would make it read:
"Everybody wants the cop to crack down on gun violence and crime until their supporters kids get nailed for trespassing or having a gun on campus. Then they want the cop to go easy and turn them loose." pwf has sure got this bozo pegged rite.

I agree with a comment made about Baxley dropping out. That would defy logic. Unless some political deal has been made that will benefit Baxley in the future. Stuff like that happens all the time.

A Corcoran and Baxley meeting today or tomorrow to discuss the senate race. Word from Tallahassee is a deal may be in the works, and Dennis may wait until Evelyn Lynn's seat is available, which is in Dennis district.

At 11:14 AM, April 06, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Don't believe it. The deal could be to convince Corcoran to drop out of the Senate race and run for Dean's House spot. Leaving a Dean/Baxley head to head. Two is fine, three is a crowd.

Notice that some of your local polits are endorsing Mr. Baxley. If you want to really judge their degree of commitment, suggest you do what I always do when I see the name of someone or some group on an endorsement list. I check out the financial report of the candidate to see how much money the person endorsing has given. That’s the real test. You should see at least $500 from each of those endorsing Mr. Baxley and another $500 from their spouse. That would attest to real endorsement!

From Florida Politics

(Example of politition working for constituents,)

"Rep. Alcee Hastings is asking federal officials to give Florida victims of Hurricane Wilma another three months to find housing before they have to vacate their FEMA-supplied trailers."

Example of what we have,

Meanwhile, Baxley's son, Damon, was in Tallahassee this week to meet with future House speakers Ray Sansom, Dean Cannon and Will Weatherford to seek their blessing as he readies to run for his dad's House seat.

Time to open doors and take his mini-me son around

Time to prepare campaign for Argenziano's Senate Seat

Time to negotiate backroom deals to enhance chances for himself and his mini-me son

Any time left to vigorously represent his existing district?

That's right how can we miss which we never had....

If Dennis and his son want to win, they better jump on the platform of the most popular Governor we have ever had--Charlie Crist--and start following his positions on the issues. That's the only way. And to do that would require a total political makeover for both of them. Will they do it?

Thanks for the Tampa website. I saw something interesting on there I agree with:

“Charlie and the R Party are playing the people like “American Idol”, and all the time laughing behind the scenes at how everyone is buying into the show. They have effectively neutralized the Democrats and the media. Elections will be no-brainers for all the R candidates. What do the Ds have to run on? Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together!
I love Charlie and I love my Party. The Dems, that's another story. Although, we won't have to worry about them for 8 more years. They can close their Hdqtr's. doors and have Ms. Thurman go on vacation.”

Candidates better connect their horses to the Crist wagon if they want to win. Good point above, can a right winger like Baxley survive in the new direction his Party is going? I doubt it.

Toss your humor at Dennis Baxley all you want. You all won’t be laughing when he wins the Senate seat. One good thing about the Republicans new direction, Charlie Crist is much more willing to accept points of view to the right and left than Jeb was. Dennis fits in and is a player. Can’t say the same about the Democrats tolerance for accepting viewpoints that are not leftist in nature. Dennis will win and Damon will bring Kurt Kelly down to size.

I actually think that neither one of them would care much about any support I could provide anyway!

But hey....there is no race yet!

Gov. Charlie Crist today acknowledged receiving the list of six names from which he must name two new utility regulators to the Florida Public Service Commission. After reviewing the list, Crist left no doubt that the rumors are right that Crystal River Sen. Nancy Argenziano has a lock on the job.

"There are some good names there and one that stands out to me and that's Sen. Nancy Argenziano,'' Crist said. "I think the world of her consumer activism. I think she will serve as a great member of the Public Service Commission and truly understands that it is the Public Service Commission -- not the power company service commission, not the phone company service commission; it's the Public Service Commission.''

He said he will review the others members and come up with a conclusion as to who to name for the second appointment.

One of the most blatant examples of a push survey I have ever seen. Don’t know who designed it or sponsored it, but they should be ashamed. I have a pretty good idea. I’m for sure now on the Dean team.

This survey is a good example of why people are getting fed up with politicians and politics.

If the recent Star Banner question of the day is any indication for Marion County, then Nancy Argenziano’s endorsement of Charlie Dean to replace her may not have much weight here. She was barely given an edge in the survey question: “Would she be a good addition to the state’s Public Service Commission?”

She received a slight edge of 51% Yes to 49% No. Not overwhelming support of her for that position and likely indicative of how those responding evaluate her. Her endorsement of Dean is probably no big deal. At least not in Marion County.

Could it be that the NRA is starting to give up on the Republicans and cuddling up to the Democrats? That would be a kick in the behind for the Republicans! Maybe Mr. Baxley is going to have to switch parties to continue to get NRA support. Here is some commentary from a recent article on the subject of gun control.

“House Democratic leaders are working with the National Rifle Association to bolster existing laws blocking mentally ill people from buying guns.

Lacking support to enact strong new gun measures even after the Virginia Tech shootings, Democrats are instead resurrecting legislation, which has drawn broad bipartisan support and NRA backing, that would improve the national background check system.
The measure, a version of which has passed the House in two previous Congresses but died in the Senate, could come to a House vote as early as next month. It would require states to supply more-thorough records, including for any mental illness-related court action against a would-be gun purchaser.

Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., a strong NRA ally who has been a leading opponent of most gun control legislation, is negotiating with the group on the background-check bill.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has tapped Dingell and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y. — a leading gun control supporter whose husband was fatally shot by a deranged gunman on the Long Island Railroad — to broker a swift compromise measure that could win passage in the House and Senate.”

ARGENZIANO APPOINTED!

Gov. Charlie Crist has officially appointed Sen. Nancy Argenziano to the Public Service Commission.

Looks like all that mail, signs and TV advertising Richard Corcoran is doing has given him a leg up on his two opponents. He anticipated correctly Argenziano getting the job.

Yup...and now we can get down to business.

Outgoing Sen. Nancy Argenziano said she’s going to leave office the day before the end of the legislative session to ensure Senate confirmation this year of her appointment to the Public Service Commission – but she’s not staying out of politics or coming anywhere close to endorsing Richard Corcoran, a “political insider” who resigned as House Speaker Marco Rubio’s top aide to run for her office.

Argenziano said she’s backing (Charlie) Dean, who’s the best-known candidate, and that Baxley is too religiously “extreme” for her moderate 13-county district that stretches from Citrus to Leon counties.

Though Corcoran leads in fundraising, she said it’s no surprise because the two Reps are prohibited from raising money during the lawmaking session. And, she said, four polls from business groups and one from the Republican Party show Corcoran’s name recognition is in the single digits – where he’ll stay.

“The money will dry up,’’ she said. “He’s been a political insider for many years. Go to Dixie County or Levy County. These are regular people. They don’t know what it’s like to live on a $174,000 a year job."

Meantime, polls show an un-named Democrat could beat an un-named Republican, but Argenziano said no worthy Democrat has entered the race.

From what I read, Dennis Baxley better stop preaching/legislating morality to the rest of us and spend some time looking in his own back yard. Stay home and teach your daughter rather than prancing all over the State telling the rest of us how to live our life.

Baxley = Hypocrite

The governor announced Thursday afternoon that the special primary election for Argenziano's Senate seat will be June 5; and the general election will be June 26.

SO WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE DEMOCRATS? READ THE STORY BELOW:

"THE REPUBLICAN FISHERMAN"

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican." "I am," replied the man. "How did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be a Democrat." "I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?" "Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but, somehow, now it's my fault."

Doesn't look like Baxley is going to back out to me. Whoever said he was must have a crack in their crack pipe!

"Two House members officially resigned their posts Monday, allowing Gov. Charlie Crist to set the dates for elections to fill the seats in Marion and Citrus counties.

Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, and Rep. Charles Dean, R-Inverness, plan to run for the state Senate seat vacated by Sen. Nancy Argenziano, R-Dunnellon. Their last day will be Friday at the end of this year's legislative session."

A Democratic candidate has emerged to run in the special election for Florida Senate District 3.

Citrus County Democrat Suzan Franks filed paperwork on Monday to run for the seat that Dunnellon Republican Nancy Argenziano will vacate to serve on the Florida Public Service Commission.

Franks was the press secretary for former congressional candidate John Russell, the Democratic challenger who lost to District 5 incumbent Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite in November.

Before moving to Florida, Franks served as an alderman in Nashua, N.H. and a state representative in the New Hampshire legislature.

A female and Democrat. Could really complicate things for the victor of the Republican blood bath.

From a good source in Tallahassee. First poll gives Charlie Dean a slight nod.

Dean 29%
Baxley 16%
Corcoran 4%
and a whole bunch undecided.

The negative ads have started in the Senate race. Received a mailer today warning me that Corcoran is a liar and carpetbagger. Was sent by the Committee to Protect Florida. Roger Pennington, Chair.--Christen Cleary, Treasurer. Pennington is a political consultant. Fun, fun!

Updating the poll.

When given background profiles on each candidate and not just recognizing their name, Charlie Dean takes an even more commanding lead in the polls:

Dean 42%, Baxley 22%, Corcoran 5%.

I keep hearing these radio and tv ads for corcoran about how he is fighting for everything except Iraq. Where is he fighting. Never heard of the guy until Nancy's name started appearing for the PSC. Know he once ran in Citris, but who is for him. No one I run into. They're all for Dean or Baxley. Someone tally consultant is draining corcoran's wallet.
