Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

Parnell Townley In Race To Replace Baxley!

{NOTE: This thread of the blog is full. You can continue to review the many, many interesting comments made to date on this thread. However, to add your comments, please scroll up to: "Dist. #24; Top 12 Posts; Straw Poll; etc…….”}

This will be very good news for those of you who are not happy with selecting between Kurt Kelly and Damon Baxley for the House of Representatives seat in District 24.

Townley is a well known and experienced political figure in this county and will be an excellent addition to the candidacy list for the House position.

More on this later. In the meantime, tell us what you think.

Oh Mr. Townley. Why do you want to go and aggrevate the kelly's? kurtie doesnt like to have to face opponents that can actuallt beat him.

Look out Parnell you ought to start getting those threatening phone calls from the kelly family anytime now!

I look forward to the intellectual debate on the issues from these two mature individuals. Mr. Kelly and Mr. Townley will be able to articulate their positions on the issues in a manner that is civil and productive.

One can only hope that the slanderous and childlike postings from some on this board will end.

I have never forgotten the negative and untruthful campaign that was run against Mr. Townley a couple of years ago. My hope is that his opponents will stay clean in this campaign. However, knowing what Kelly tried, unsuccessfully, to do to Sue Mosley, I have my doubts.

Mr. Townley's got this wrapped up. Sure Kurtie Boy's got his supporters out there, but how many of them also know and respect Mr. Townley? Probably more than Kurt knows. Parnell's been a positive force in this county for a long time, and he's done a lot of good for an awful lot of people. What's Kurt done other than get a few bad kids out of trouble? It will be an interesting race, watching what Kelly does to try to win, but as it stands now, Parnell wins the Republican primary outright. I think even little Damon gets more votes than Kurtie Boy.

Little Damon needs to learn how to fill out the paper work and file it in order to run. As of today there are only 2 candidates that in this race..... whenever it it.

2. Thank you Mr. Townley. We did not need to default to Mr. Kelly, and his wierd position.
3. I hope Mr. Kelly does not run and hide, and "reconsider his decision to run".
4. I wonder who is going to apply/run for Mr. Kelly's maybe vacated seat? Anyone have any real info?
5. I betcha PWF is going to chuckle himself to sleep tonite.

Cory Pool has been mentioned in another section as someone interested in replacing Kelly on the School Board. I wouldn't be surprised to see a D in this non-partisan election.

It will be interesting to see if the Republicans recruit someone in the Senate and House races to file as a “write-in” candidate to close the election process to the Democrats.

Sorry Ronnie, Mr. Amsden is going to have to wait until 2008. No commission spots are going to be open.

ESPECIALLY, CANDIDATES LIKE KELLY AND BAXLEY. THESE GOOD CHRISTIAN MEN WOULD NOT DO SOMETHING THAT POLITICALLY DEVIOUS.

FLORIDA CAPITOL VIEW

Rubio gives up on 'consensus' in pushing dramatic tax plan
Kennedy & Garcia
CAPITOL VIEW

April 15, 2007

When Republican leaders in the Florida Senate finally rolled out their property-tax package last week, they made sure to note that theirs was a "consensus" plan that will likely win the vote of every single senator in the 40-seat chamber.

But House Speaker Marco Rubio is trying to turn that to his advantage as he sells his own property-tax plan that's staunchly opposed by House Democrats and even has some Republicans grumbling.

It's essentially an appeal to ruling Republicans in the Senate to act like, well, ruling Republicans.

"One of the things you hear a lot of talk about is, 'We need to get consensus; we need to get everybody on board.' And on most issues, that's the right thing to do," Rubio, R-West Miami, told a group of tax protesters last week.

"But there are some issues where that's not possible, because there's a significant, ideological difference -- and I think taxes may be one of them."

One of the reasons the Senate's plan has such broad support in that chamber is because the tax cuts it would impose aren't nearly as dramatic as those sought by Rubio and the House. The deeper the tax cuts, after all, the worse the hit to local governments and the services they provide.

Rubio knows there's no way his plan -- headlined by a constitutional amendment that would, if voters ultimately approved, cut $15.8 billion a year in property taxes but raise $8.9 billion a year in sales taxes -- will get unanimous support when he brings it up on the House floor this week.

It won't even get 90 votes, which is what it would take to call a special election on the amendment this year.

But he does know -- at least, he and his leadership team say they do -- that his plan can get 72 votes, which is all it takes to get the amendment on the 2008 ballot. That's because Rubio commands a 78-41 majority (one seat is vacant).

He also knows that Senate Republicans have enough votes to force a controversial constitutional amendment through their chamber, too.

So now, Rubio has taken to making the case that "consensus" is overrated when talking up his plan to taxpayers. Getting people to pressure Senate leadership into abandoning that goal may very well be the only hope Rubio's plan has.

Good point. We need State Senators as well as House members who will represent the taxpayers and are willing to take a stand. Here is something I saw on a couple of other blogs. So enter these thoughts in your decision when the Marion County Republicans have to select someone for the House and Senate.

Speaker Rubio,

DON'T LET UP ON THEM. Please, even if it costs you politically, be the guy who fought to lower our taxes. The future of our state depends on it. With Jeb Bush gone, there is NOBODY in tallahassee willing to be the unpopular conservative. Governor Crist says, "lower property taxes", but doesn't have a meaningful plan. All the "conservatives" in the Senate, like Dan Webster, Fasano, Haridopoulous, Pruitt, etc., have all abandoned their principles in the name of "bipartisanship and consensus". This whole thing is disgusting. Who is challenging the status quo? Who is willing to be a conservative voice - the conservative voice that WON us the majority???? I am so disgusted by my own party and the very people I've supported. The Democrats are winning, guys, and they are doing it because you have abandoned who you are and what got you there. And when I say "winning" I mean philosophically, not electorally (although I think that's coming too). We have socialized the insurance market, which will prove to be a Charlie Crist disaster. And we have completely abandoned our quest to make Government more effecient at all levels. Is it popular to say no? Of course not. Is it leadership? You bet it is. Shame on all of you. As a conservative, I will either stay home or vote Democrat in the next election. I no longer see a difference between the two parties.

Great points St. Pete. You beautifully illustrated for us exactly why we must elect Dennis Baxley to the FL Senate. We have far to many "go along to get along" Senators that are afraid to stand alone as true conservatives. If there's anything Dennis has proven in the House it's that he's a true conservative and he is not afraid to stand alone. If Dennis was in the Senate right now there's no way he would be going along with this wishy-washy crap and I guarantee you that he would have others standing with him because he's a leader. Charlie Dean is a good old boy and he will fit right in with the "go along to get along" crowd. Corcoran seems to be a good guy but he doesn't have a prayer and he has never proven what he will do because he's never held office before so we really don't know what we are getting there. Baxley will shake up the status quo in the Senate and I for one am interested in watching this unfold.

Baxley a true conservative???? Not when it comes to smaller, more efficient government. Last year he sponsored or co-sponsored something like 15 brand new programs that would have cost you and I the taxpayer more of our hard earned cash. That's not budget items like road projects - that's new agencies or laws that would force counties to create new programs (the fiscally conservative unfunded mandate). The Republican as fiscal conservative is a damned urban legend. They go to Tallahassee or DC and get into power and they're just as willing to spend the money on their pet projects as the liberalest of liberals. Jeb Bush started off with a $42 million budget and finished with a $75 million budget. Conservative, my ass.

Jackie,

Don’t think I have ever heard Dennis Baxley define himself as a fiscal conservative. He is for sure a social/moral conservative. Problem with that is his causes are not doing anything to lower my property taxes or reduce state government spending. He was a supporter of giving state money to E-1 and you listed other spending items on his fiscal record. Give me a candidate who is in touch with our state and local government’s current problems. And those problems are major financial ones, not the issues Baxley is spending time on. Reducing my taxes over taking my gun to work any day of the week for me.

We won't know what Mr. Townley would have done about the E-1 money until we ask him. So let's not speculate. We do know that Baxley has supported the giveaway.

And why is it when anyone disagrees with someone on this blog, you all assume it's a Kelly relation? Poly is not a branch of townley mfg. Parnell owns exactly zero percent of poly and has never worked for it. and poly did almost zero business with e-1 last yr and five pct the year before.

Why is the state and local Democratic Party so pathetic in finding anyone of substance to run in elections? This comment by a Democrat about the Chairman of the State Party might be a sign as to the reason:

“(Karen) Thurman is emblematic of what worries me about my Democratic party. Lots of bluster, lots of noise, lots of fleeting thoughts. Little substance. Why aren't people like her muzzled and put somewhere out of sight?”

At 12:19 PM, April 22, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why is the local Democratic party so pathetic -----?

My answer as a former Democratic political activist who overthrew the Republican party in two heavily supported Republican Counties, served as a campaign coordinator for Governor John Gilligan of Ohio, was on his inaugeral committee, served as an advance man for Senator John Glenn, etc etc; is that there is no desire for new local leadership.

I attended a fund raiser for Mike Sizemore and observed a very tired party.

I shared my observations with retired Senator Williams who passed my name on to The party Chairman as well as to Sheriff Dean's reelection campaign. I never heard from either party.

I know how to pull the levers. Nothing has changed, just good old political common sense.

If there are any doubters, I suggest you contact Victor Dix of Dix Communications.

No more politics for me. Instead I have found life much more rewarding, contemplating my navel and boating on inland waters.

ubRegarding Karen Thurman :

There is nothing like a strong dose of Potomic fever to change a persons prioritys.

Back in 1964 I helped elect to Congress a union crane operator from heavily Republican Winnebago County in Wisconsin . The only talent that John Race had was he could beat on a podium when he spoke and sounded like George Meany.

When Race and his wife made their first trip home from Washington she was wearing a new full length fur coat. Mrs. Race had secumbed to Potomic Fever.

Karen Thurman's interests are still national and within the belt way. She spends too much time on the politics of the national party and not enough time on the politics of Florida.

Ms.Thurman did not respond to my e-mails regarding national leadership issues, nor did she respond to my offer of pro-bono state wide assistance in organizing.

Ms. Thurman has forgotten that good constituent service is what counts. Her constituency is not in the belt way but Florida Democrats.

Yes, she inherited a bucket of warm spit which included a financial mess and seems to have dealt with it sucessfully.

However, she does not seem to be able to take full advantage of the Democratic high tide .

And, oh yes, John Race was defeated for relection by the incumbent Rod Stieger whom Race beat in 1964.

Congressman Steiger saved me from being recalled into active duty and being sent to Viet Nam. That's what I call constituent service.

Listen up !! Karen Thurman

The old Guard .

Both parties have them and they want to give up what little or imagined power they think they have.

That fact will never change. Unless these people are real "ward healers" or strong opinion makers, you get rid of them.

At the precint level you find solid people to run against them and vote them out. Not an easy task, but one that must be done.

Then you take over the central committee, then the Chairmanship of the party.

This is the way I did it in Wisconsin and Ohio with a few variations. Florida law may differ in some ways, but that is the basics.

I sense that their is a strong latent desire by Marion County Democrats to bring change to the local party. The obstacle to achieving this, it seems, is that nobody wants to put in the long ardious hours and money to do this.

Blogging has added a whole new dimension to politics. I see some good from blogging and some bad. Their is no accountibility for lies and distortions. Bloggers can "Swift Boat" just about anybody.

Blogging has made politics much more vicious, outweighing the positives derived from using the blogashphere to promote candidates, issues and raise money

One must realize that their personal life will be distorted either by bloggers or old fashioned whisper campaigns, regardless of what you are doing in politics.

To participate , you must be willing to give time, treasure and blood for the cause.

Hopefully there will be more Marion County Democrats willing to do so. There must be a lot more willingness by the old guard to cede status and power, for anything positive to happen in local Democratic affairs.

To Clayton Ellsworth. You are exactly right about needing more comittment and hard work to revitalize the Dems. But, the sad truth is most Dems are working class folks continuing to struggle through day to day life. Even if we are willing to give our blood, we have neither time or treasure like the Republican party... Corporatists continue to own this county and get elected to 'trickle down on us'.

At 3:23 PM, April 23, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Brother Clayton,
I guarantee uyou the same thing you say about Dems is true of the GOP. The local exec committee is just about as worthless as the dem Exec Committee. My experience has been when you try to make changes within either, you run up against those who are in power, as evidenced when Paul Truesdale tried to take over the party recently and couldn't get his people elected, so he withdrew his name before they could vote him out. Now he is running for Sheriff, and we will see how that plays out later. When only the extremists of either party are in power, you see what we end up with -- look at Moveon.org and the power they now have over congress.
your posts are enlightening, but don't bet on Karen responding and asking your help. --pwf

pwf,

I have read your past postings and actually felt bad for you when others attacked you for saying things that were not accurate. I now know that you do post things that are not accurate.

I was at the REC meeting the night that Truesdell came up for a vote, and although he was not voted in, he did not pull his name from the floor. He participated in the entire democratic process during the meeting and after he was not voted in, gave a very eloquent speach thankinbg everyone for participating in the process.

I believe that the reason he was not voted in was a result of Mike McQuaig, not anything he (Truesdell) did.

So pwf, get your facts straight before you start rambling. You were not there, and therefore have no idea what happened.

As for him running for Sheriff, it will be fun watching you and Ed, who I am trying to determine who is more pompous you or him, sweat when Eed's opponent is a educated, articulate, former law enforcement professional. He only beat Douglas by a couple thousand votes, Ed's gonna get waxed.....

Randy Harris was (and is) a far-right wing nut case. He was vulnerable from the get-go. Harris had zero support from Democrats. Dean, on the other hand, governs from the center-left, and has plenty of support from local Republican stakeholders (look at his '04 contributors.)

Douglas only went as far as he did because he was a former deputy, and he advertised that like crazy ("a proven lawman".) Dean, if anything, solidified a strong base of support during the 2004 elections and will clobber the crap out of whatever right wing shill the Republicans can dish out.

Here's a note to those individuals who have smirky comments towards Kurt Kelly and his family. I have known Kurt and his family for many years, and they have extreme loyality and respect for the residents of Ocala and Marion County. It's a shame that many of these comments are immature and incorrect.

Kurt Kelly WILL BE the best representative for this House Seat. He understands the needs of the Marion County residents, and he has experience with the Florida Legislative process.

Before you comment on someone, you should research their crudentials and abilities to fully represent our community.

Kurt Kelly will get my vote!

Parnell Townley will get my vote. There, we have just neutralized each others vote.

Parnell is a good man, and Kurt may also be. The issue is relevant experience and who do you trust to do the best for the county (not self) in Tallahassee. That's why I'm voting for Parnell.

At 11:47 AM, April 29, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What Florida legistative experience does Parnell Townley have? Does he understand that State budget and Senate and House committee process? Does he have a working relationship with the Governor, current or future Senate President and/or House Speaker?

Did you know most "local" or "good man" politicians have no knowledge of the legistative process? In fact, new legislators have attend a training in Tallahassee to teach them about State budget, committees, and departements. This really erks me!!! Local folks wanting to get a elected and they do not understand the process. It takes years to understand it, and in the meantime, such elected officials lose their ability to bring necessary fundings and needed changes back to their constituents.

Kurt Kelly has my vote! He, too, is a good man, and he has the legislative knowledge along with the ability to work with current legislators. He would be an excellent assest for the Marion County constituents.

Mr. Kelly and has family are good contributors to the county. Mr. Townley has also been a great contributor over many years and in many ways. Mr. Townley has the broad experience at the local government level we need in our legislature. Mr. Kelly’s experience in education is good, but today’s problems are far beyond just education. Many of these problems are going to require a hands-on understanding of local government issues that unfortunately not many of our legislators have. Also, who do I think would work best with fellow legislators and local government officials is important. It comes down to a vote on the best between two good people. To me that’s Mr. Townley.

FCAT scores dropping in Marion County? Who gets the blame for that? Superintendent? Schoolboard? teachers?

Kurt Kelly is an INEFFECTIVE leader. So to all you Kurt Kelly fans, this is going to be a great race to sit back and watch.

All of you smear folks need to get a life. Get your facts straight and vote for the best man for the job- Kurt Kelly.

Mr. Kelly has chosen to take the high road. Smear tactics are for those who are uneducated and mean spirited.
As for the FCAT, where's the reponsibility of the families of these students who are not passing- awake up. The home is the one line of education. More parents need to step up to the plate when it comes to their kids education. Stop using this as a political game.

I'm proud to cast my vote and 10 other family members to Kurt Kelly.I know he will do a super job representing the interest of Ocala. If you want someone who is a hard worker, stands for truth, justice and intregity ,you will vote for him as well.

I agree with the previous comment. Kurt is an honest and hard working individual. He would be the best candidate for this district. Oh by the way, I know of at least 20 Republican neighbors and friends planning to vote for Kurt Kelly on June 5th.

For those with the low-cutting comments to Kurt Kelly and his family, why don't "you" stand-up and run for this office. Apparently, "you" have all the abilities and answers for our district...

Damon, I understand is 26 years old. I'm sorry, he maybe a great guy, but does not have enough experiences to represent us at the state level. He needs to start at the local level to earn some experience.Again, the high road is the best route.

Instead of going straight to the source (which by the way, I did about the whole Vanguard incident, the gun incident and got the facts first hand) it is much easier to just pass on on gossip and here say, because you don't like Mr. Kelly. If you have a beef with him, get off your butt and call him! In fact, if you have a beef about any of the candidates, call them and ask them your questions or concerns. It's called BEING INFORMED! Now that would be the INTELLIGENT thing to do as most candidates welcome the chance to to talk to voters and discuss issues or if needed, set the record straight.

Ditto for me. Kurt Kelly is the ONLY true Christian and real leader we have occupying any elected position in this county. The rest are pretenders, including Dennis Baxley. Kurt will lead the way and is the type of leader we need for the future of our county and our State. I’m sure all the other local elected officials would agree what a great leader and TRUE Christian Kurt is. I can see him going from the State House direct to Governor in the 2010 election. Kurt is without a doubt the smartest, finest man I know. Let’s get him on his way to bigger and better things. All of our politicians should take a lesson from Kurt on how to run our government. Look at his outstanding leadership on the School Board in helping to create the best education system in the Southeastern U.S. We need to look to him as our future!!!

He and the others are a disaster and I would never want to see him in Tallahassee. Things are bad enough there already. I don’t care if Kelly is a Christian, Jew, Wiccan, Muslim or whatever, my school taxes are too high!

You really don't get it do you. Kelly is not being blamed for school taxes, just how our money is being spent. So stop spinning it to transfer blame to other board members and tell us all the great things Kelly has done to save our tax money from being spent on unnecessary items. The problem is Kelly is just like the rest of the Republicans, a big spender. We don't need his kind in the legislature.

I’ve been participating in this blog off and on just about since it was started. Now those of us who don’t happen to think Kurt Kelly is the best candidate to replace Dennis Baxley are being taken to task by those fine, Christian values Kelly supporters.

Here is a sample of the words used by them to describe us: ignorant, immature, stupid, irresponsible, uninformed, crap, idiots, low life. If this represents Christianity from those supporting Kelly, it has made this ignorant bloggers decision not to vote for him more solid.

Amen my friend "critic from belleview". Let me add a little something if I may.

Kurt, open to the book of Matthew in the New Testament, Chapter 6 verse 1-2.

"Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; ohterwise you haveno reward with your father who is in heaven. When therefore you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full."

Sorry for the preaching but its seems to be the only way to have a conversation with the religious ones who feel Kurt is on a Mission form God.

Hey Kurt, maybe some of us are right. God may want you to be a good steward of the people's money. Ever thought about that one?

Why is it when anyone feels free to speak their mind about a candidate that you oppose, you assume it is "Kurt, Mrs. Kelly, ALvarez, Chip and PC"? for your information Mr. Know-it-all, I have only met Mr. Kelly once, and have never met any of the other folks. Sorry to disappoint you, but there are other folks out there that like Mr. Kelly and don't share the same opinion of him as you do. I think this blog needs to be renamed: Politically Pathetic Mudslingers. You don't care anything about debating issues. Or better yet, why not just make this your own little private blog spot and prohibit any "outsiders" that don't agree with you, from posting.

Debate the issues. Bring it on.

You say you have only met Kurt one time yet you talk of him like you are life long friends. Which is it? Talk about Mr. Know it all.

I have obviously met him more than you so maybe I can speak with a little more authority than your self proclaimed "met him one time" claim.

As far as the issues. Study them hard my friend and see what you come up with. I in no way want to close this blog off from folks like you. The more you lay claim to an individual like Kurt the better.

So find some issues and lets go.

You folks who think the focus of this blog is Kurt Kelly sure better take a look at the many other threads that don't even mention the guy.

Frankly, there are bigger issues in this county than Kurt Kelly's quest to become a legislator. He is one of what 130 or so. I would like to say they have some influence, but they don't. He would have more influence staying on the School Board. Which I wish he would do. Too late now, his resignation is in.

A more important issue than Kelly is who will replace hime?

I always thought local political activist Bill Glass was one of the most verbally abusive political types around. However, that designation seems to be quickly shifting to some of the people on the blog who are trying to support Mr. Kelly. How about cutting the rhetoric back a few degrees and follow one of the suggestions above---what are Mr. Kelly’s outstanding accomplishments as a School Board member and what does he plan to do for our county during his first year in the legislature?

Those of you who know so much about Mr. Kelly and think is the second coming, please enlighten us about his achievements. That would be much better than your name calling, constant defensive spinning and avoidance of talking about his record and qualifications.

I'll listen to facts but not your ridiculous hyperbole.

DENIAL—that best describes Kurt Kelly and the small flock of people who march in lock step to whatever he tells them. Continuing to deny any involvement in attempting to “bring down” Sue Mosley during her last campaign is denial of the highest order. Just admit, apologize and move on with your politics as usual. After all, confession is good for the soul; at least for a day or so. Whoops, confession is a Catholic thing and I might just get criticized for recommending something so un-Christian!

And yes, Mr Yancey may well have made a mistake in his endorsement. Silence is at times the best action.

Remember this, Kurt was appointed (not elected) to the schoolboard (I believe '99-early 2000). He then ran and won ('02) against a less than favorable candidate. Then ran unopposed in '06.

Now he truly faces a genuine campaign against a bright Damon Baxley and a seasoned veteran in Mr. Townley.

IT CAN'T BE SAID ENOUGH AND WE ALL ARE WAITING TO SEE SOME POSTS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS FROM THE KELLY CAMP!!

Would love to see a chamber of commerce televised debate with Townley Baxley and the man on a mission from God.

I'm a Jew. I've worked with Mr. Kelly for years. I respect him and know he is a man of great character. Character counts. Kurt -I'm 100% behind you. As you have told me, you serve a jewish carpenter- Jesus. So when you say he is anti- Jewish, that's NOT TRUE. I know first hand .

Jewish Friend,

Tell us your name. You surely aren't ashamed to let us know who you are in support of Mr. Kelly.

Of course, you could be his mama posting again as Anonymous, as she has been reported to do.

I'm more likely to believe the point made by the blogger above this post.

Don't try to flim flam us with this prominent businessman B... S...

If you are a true friend of Kelly's you'll provide your name. If not, we'll take your lack of response as being another of the attempts by Kelly and his clan to BS us.

Jewish Friend and City Guy,

You guys are both full of it! I doubt either one of you have any Jewish heritage at all. I also doubt any prominent Jewish businessmen visit this blog,,,save one, and he would not vote for Kurt Kelly. Of the Jewish people I know, they have little interest in this rinky dink political race. They would also feel no compulsion to come on this blog and make a big deal out of their Jewish religion.

P.S.: If you are "prominent", please learn to spell it!

An interesting thread the past day or so.

If I didn't know better, I'd say Mr. Kelly might have a couple of his political consultant buds from Tallahassee trying to support him on the blog. Why not give us some reasons to vote for Kelly rather than the "soft" stuff that is being bantered back and forth?

Rocky, Mark is that you?

Blogger at 3:29 PM

I don’t take God or religion(s) lightly, but I don’t like politicians or other people on the blog telling me how I should respect God. That is between my priest and me. I want the politicians out of my religious life and too many are trying to make it a platform for politics. I’m not at all worried about my day of reckoning. How about you? I won’t vote for Mr. Kelly because I don’t think he is as well qualified as Mr. Townley. That’s, that---nothing to do with religious leanings or beliefs of anyone.

At 11:54 PM, May 09, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

not to be disrespectful but big deal if you are jew or gentile. I will take it at face value that you are a "prominent business". That means you have (or should have) a good head on your shoulders. That being the case, answer this simple question, and if you don't know it then research it.

What has Kurt done from an original standpaoint to better the education system of Marion County in his position of power? Dont need any of this christian stuff just some factual answers. You know, "render unto caesar that which is caesar's". Put his faith aside, what has he done for the children. "suffer not the little ones to come unto me for such is the kingdom of heaven".

Please somebody that loves kurt answer the damn question. What has he done outside of God to make a difference.

This is a joke of a blog. The only candidate discussed and attack hourly is Mr. Kelly. Why are all you bloggers so enraged? Anger is really not good for your health. You all need some coping skills!

So, you're for Baxley...his major accomplishment is what????

I’d like to give you my experience with Mr. Kelly. When he was the chairman of the School Board I called the administration office to leave a message to have him call me about a situation with my daughter at North Marion H.S. The receptionist told me he would call me back if I lived in the district he represented. I did not at that time. I told her I really wanted to talk with him. She repeated that Mr. Kelly’s policy was to talk only to those in his district. I asked her to give my name and number to him anyway and ask him to call me. She said she would do that, but not to expect a call because he almost never called anyone back unless he knew them personally. He didn’t call me. I will remember the call I never got come election day. I am now living in the district where Mr. Kelly is trying to get elected.

At 10:50 PM, May 10, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Linda,

You should have left Kelly a message that you daughter was a basketball player, had just been caught robbing a gas station with a 357 magnum and you needed him to testify about her fine character.

Otherwise, you won't get s... from him. Might have also helped if you told him that you lived in Jumbolair and are friends with John T.

The guy is a joke as a School Board member!

Can someone please address the issues?
Finally there is an issue brought to light-library and porn.
Over the last several weeks, I viewed this blog. All the other blah blah is foolish and mudslinging. Before I make a decision on how to cast my vote, I WILL do my homework and check the County Commissioners public records from a couple years ago. I will see how Mr. Townley voted on keeping porn out of our libraries.

I will cast my vote for a man of experience, backbone, truthfulness and moral convictions.

At 8:13 AM, May 11, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Good, then you'll vote for Mr. Townley. Cause Kelly sure don't have what you're looking for.

He's a pillar of character all right.

At 8:21 AM, May 11, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Parnell Townley did what the County Attorney advised him and the other Commissioners to do concerning the “book”. He followed the law and didn’t make a grandstand political issue of the situation like a couple of others did. I respect that.

Now Kurt Kelly, he does not respect the law. He tried to work a deal to get some student lawbreakers off the hook with law enforcement.

You want someone who respects the rule of law or someone who wants to ignore the law to benefit athlete friends and the kids from financially well off families. No wonder we have students making bomb threats, vandalizing the property of others and just plain and simple showing no respect for the rights of others! With people like Kelly as role models, what else can we expect from kids today?

Folks, it’s a no brainer. We don’t need a State Representative who shows little respect for our laws, demonstrates favoritism and wants to shove aside the hard work of our honorable law enforcement men and women. Tell Kurt Kelly to take a hike, and cast your vote for Parnell Townley!

We can tell the kids what a great example Kurt is for them. I would love to have 5 minutes in the schools with the "kids" to tell them about godly Kurt.

You see, the problem your kurt lovers face is the things he does behind the scenes doesn't ever make it to you people. Some of us though know his tactics all to well.

Woe to those who live in glass houses baby. This is going to get fun.

The dirt is already starting to fly in the Senate race. Saw a nasty flyer a friend received from one of those election communications groups. It belonged to a Tallahassee political consultant who is dumping on Richard Corcoran. The guy (Roger Pennington) has a history of conducting negative and nasty campaigns. I believe he also had to pay nearly $12,000 last year for election law violations.

Remember the phrase: you can gauge a man’s character by the company he keeps. Ask Kurt Kelly who he is using in his campaign. Has a T-Town consultant perhaps found a local friend? Parnell and Damon get ready to be trashed!

At 10:05 PM, May 11, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Robert,

I also got one of those nasty mailers about Corcoran. If Kelly is using these slime ball consultants, then he will pay at the polls.

Blogman, hope you will not let them make a farce out of the blog with a bunch of dirt. You may have to stop it like you did during last years election.

At 10:24 PM, May 11, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I believe some of you people are totally wrong about Kurt Kelly. He is a fine Christian man and I know he would NEVER hire a consultant who would attack people with untruthful and negative comments. You are wrong about who he has hired.

We will know for sure if it shows up on his campaign reports. If it is so, his integrity and credibility will suffer a blow in our community. But I just know he is too fine a man to hire anyone who would be dishonest or hurt others.

Why be so defensive? Kelly has much confidence that he is going to win. Already predicted it in the newspaper. Seems he should have no fear sharing his record with all of us. Especially his outstanding record on law and order and how to teach kids the way to violate confidence in our judicial system. Is that his legacy in our school system? Many feel strongly it is. That includes many in local law enforcement. I think there may also be a couple of other blockbuster legacies that will soon surface for Kelly. Stay tuned!

More later, got an early tee time.

Voters, this guy Stephen Shaw (R) who just entered the election is the real deal. He’s young (40), really well educated, well trained as a true conservative through his work with Cliff Stearns, and well informed on all of the issues that a legislator should know about.

Kurt Kelly was my choice as our young, future leader in Tallahassee until I met Mr. Shaw. Call him or meet with him and I’m sure you will be impressed too.

All this about porn...this book is still in libary. So what about the (commissioners')who are in office now? Who is to blame? The vote was not about porn book... it was about removing the libary board. Check you facts!

His experience, beyond local matters can bring a fresh wind to our area.

Hear from a real good political source that Kurt Kelly is out recruiting someone to run as a write in candidate so he can disenfranchise about half of the county’s voters. Disappointing, if factual and I have no reason to believe it isn’t. When you are running scared and probably losing, losers will do anything to try and win.

At 11:29 AM, May 12, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

No way is it true! Kurt said at the start he would not attempt to do anything like closing the primary. He is a man of his word and would not let anyone working with him on his campaign recruit someone to run as a write in. You are just wrong about Kurt and will see on Monday.

200 Blogger gave a list of possible people who might be considered for appointment by the Governor to replace Kurt Kelly on the school board. IMO, none of them will get the appointment. A couple are not likely even interested. The name of the person who is going to get the position will come to the front in the next week or so. Check back later!

There's absolutely no substance on Damon's website. He's a Christian, a cop, and a father. La-di-freakin'-da. I don't care that he's got no record, but I do care that he doesn't take a stand on a single issue.

At 7:53 AM, May 13, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jackie, if you want to see where Damon stands on any issue just go to his dad's website and see what he thinks. That's what Damon's position will be. So if you want more of the same that you get from Dennis Baxley, then vote for Damon.

kurt the man sez no way kurt would ever do anything like get someone to run as a writein and close the primary. how baout when he got stacy to run as a write in when it looked like the black priacipal from dunnellon runnin as a republican would get lots and lots of dem votes against jim warford in an open primary. she qualified and sed openly why she was running to keep dems from voting. Then a dem came out and ran and she dropped out.
as for being a man of his word, ask sue, steve, ron, warford, stan and a whole long list of former friends.

As it stands as I write this, the Dems have two hours and 18 minutes to get a candidate. The Reps have that much time to get a write in to have a closed primary. If we have an open primary to chose our next representative to a couple of right-wing nut cases (Baxley and Kelly) have the slightest chance of pulling off this race if Parnell or this other guy can get their Dem and NPA friends to come out and vote too?

At 9:47 AM, May 14, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Here's a thought. I haven't heard a word from the Townley camp during. He hasn't qualified yet. There aren't any signs around town. Any chance he does what he did during the school board race and not actually run?

At 11:06 AM, May 14, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Blodmaster wqill likely ease your pain, Jackie, when he posts all those qualified. First in line was Parnell. Kurt's papers weren't notorized, and his consultant was out running trying to find him and meet the qualifications of the law. Funny that someone who wants to run for State Rep doesn't read the law enough to find out what it takes to qualify.
