Political Humor or Not?
Here is an example of the kind of stuff that is making its way around the internet and among the various political web sites and blogs. We received this from a Democrat who is a hard-nosed Hillary Clinton supporter.
Is this just a sign of things to come in the Democratic Presidential Primaries or is it merely someone poking a little fun at Barack Obama? You tell us.
Maybe this cartoon says it all!
54 Comments:
Intelligent and informed voters pay no attention to these kinds of misleading poltical pictures.
You’re naïve! Would you like to buy the Sharps Ferry Bridge?
Why only a MONSTER would distribute something like the Obama picture for political advantage!
What's the big deal? The Obama cartoon is part of politics as usual. They all do it.
May have more truth to what it represents than people will admit to. We are a politically correct world so let's not upset anyone.
His church membership and what they believe outta give people reasinn to take a hard look at Barack and where his loyalties lie
I like the cartoon at the bottom. Already in full force.
Could be neither Obama nor Clinton get the nomination. I haven’t had a drop of liquor today but don’t be surprised if Al Gore comes out of the Democratic convention fight as the compromise selection. And that’s a fact!!!
When the Clinton’s really get down and dirty, the Obama picture will seem like kids play.
9:14 PM: The operative words are intelligent and informed. Unfortunately, most voters are neither.
To succeed as humor it would have to have an element of truth, which it doesn’t.
The editorial emphasis on such material and on Nader’s entry into the presidential race both look like there is an agenda here of fomenting division among Democrats. That probably isn’t surprising given the hard tilt toward the Republican presidential candidate in the PH blog poll.
I say this as an NPA who has voted Republican more than Democrat in presidential races and may vote for McCain but will remain undecided until both parties have identified their presidential and vice-presidential nominees.
No one has to "foment division among Democrats". They are doing it on their own. If an election can be screwed up the Dems will do it. Go Hillary and Go Al Sharpton!
The Obama picture is no worse than some of the pictures, caricatures, etc. I’ve seen from the far left doing character assassination on President Bush; from portraying Bush as Hitler, Satan, and who knows what other evil characters. At least, so far, the Democrats are trashing one another. Obama better develop some thicker skin because Hillary Clinton and her clan can dish out political abuse with the best. She can also take anything thrown her way and there have been some good ones over the years.
Obama seems a bit too wimpy, “beefless” and condescending-- not very good traits for a U. S. President. His background reminds me somewhat of a young Squadron Commander we had during my Air Force days. The fellow was well liked by everyone, a great speaker, tall/good looking, had an attractive wife, an ivy league school graduate—as was his wife, the life of a party and appeared to be a great candidate to become a general officer in the future.
All seemed hunky dory until the guy got his orders to go to Viet Nam; at the stage where things had not even heated up. He reacted to his Viet Nam orders by having a serious nervous breakdown and had to resign his commission and leave the service.
I want someone in the President’s chair who can take criticism and dish it out, has been through several major personal/professional setbacks and survived, demonstrates a toughness of character that will make any foreign aggressors take notice, and won’t cave in at the first sign of conflict (policy or otherwise). Currently, McCain is first on my list (although, he is a big underdog), Clinton is second and Obama is a very, very distant third.
There’s a long way to go and voters are more unpredictable than ever. Who knows, as someone mentioned, Al Gore may get elected!
Stan, None of the pictures or jokes demeaning President Bush that I have seen exhibited either racial or religious bigotry.
The far right gets a perfecta, religious and racial bigotry, all in one candidate, Obama. This fact was demonstrated by trash mouth Willie Cunningham of WJW in Cincinnatti and Clear Channel fame when he introduced John McCain in Cincinnatti.
As a sometime listerner to WJW when I was on the road in Ohio, I found Cunningham to be more bigoted by far than Don Imus. Cunningham justs wraps his bigotry in the American Flag and has good lawyers to fend off the Anti Defammation League. Looks like the right wing is doing the same thing on Obama with the help of the internet. And yes, some thoughtful people believe it.
As far as John McCain is concerned, I watched 60 minutes last night which convinced me more than ever that he is a re-do or take 2 of George w. Bush.
McCain stated again that "the underpinnings of the economy are solid", proving that he doesn't know much about the economy, just parrots what President Bush, Hank Paulson and Ben Bernacke have been saying.
Also troubling to me is McCain's Hawkish stance on Foreign Policy which sounds like the neocons all over again, just a bit more muted.
Al Gore will never get in the race. Why should he ?
Clayton Ellsworth
Iowa Representative Steve King made the remark that terrorists would be “dancing in the streets” if Barack Obama is elected president. John McCain later denounced what King said. However, the statement is already being circulated by the media and will probably get a lot of people thinking about Obama’s end the war position being viewed as a defeat of the United States by the countries with terrorist intent against our country.
Clayton,
Yep, IF (a big if) Obama gets to the Presidential shoot out he will get the attention of the far right; just as McCain will get the attention of the loons on the far left. A matchup of a young, very liberal, black, inexperienced senator, with controversy in his past and a record of being dovish on foreign policy versus an old, moderate, white, experienced senator, with controversy in his past and a record of being hawkish on foreign policy. Don’t you think there is enough there for the crazies on both sides?
I’ll vote for the candidate who can best:
1. Assure me that the unacceptable level of big government we already have won’t get bigger.
2. Deliver a commitment to extend the tax cuts due to expire in 2010.
3. Assure my wife and me that when we depart this world the members of our family who need help can keep and use most of whatever we have left for their benefit; not having our estate leftovers go into a government “death-tax pool” to be distributed to people we don’t even know.
4. Stop penalizing people for success and good personal/financial decisions by “awarding” them the opportunity to support those who didn’t.
5. Cure our current economic problems without taxing everyone to the nth degree and giving government bail outs to those who made bad personal/financial decisions. Importantly, recognize that businesses can and do contribute to the growth of our economy, and may do so better than government.
6. Assure me that if I were to go back in the Air Force, I would have a Commander In Chief who gives me the confidence he/she was watching out for all of us in the military…allowing me to sleep comfortably at night in my barracks without using sleeping pills!
Some of this may sound kind of “Republican”. So be it.
Will McCain be a surrogate for George Bush? I doubt that very much. It may be that your vote and mine will just cancel out each other on Election Day. We’ll have to wait and see how partisan each of us will be by November.
P.S. Clayton,
One of your “What Were You Thinking?” examples:
What’s up with that great Democrat, “Corruption Fighter” and Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer? See he’s part of a prostitution ring bust. I thought only Republicans had such perverted moral standards!
The Democrats have responded to the Spitzer case---"Prostitution should not be illegal for any Democratic elected officials. It is a way to enhance the economic well being of these less fortunate females in New York. Spitzer should be commended for his actions in "injecting" something into the life style of these ladies of the night."
Obama & Richardson (W)
versus
McCain & Romney (L)
In reference to Stan’s question about what Spitzer was thinking, it seems Spitzer made the mistake of thinking with an organ not well suited for it.
Brian--That's a GOOD ONE!!!!
My neighbor thought Spittzer might have been working "undercover".
Stan, Regarding Spitzer, what a dick head. His Governorship was over b-4 this incident. Apparently he had already alienated his ownparty and everybody else in Albany.
Today I will be following up a lead about a Republican nudist camp out in the Forest where former Congressman Foley is camp counciler. I have been told that the Ghosts of Wilbur Mills and Fannie Fox are said to haunt the ponds.
Oh, but the flesh is weak !
Clayton Ellsworth
Clayton,
Let me know what you find out about that Forest Nudist Camp. Hope it’s not too cold out there for you. Also, let me know if they give a senior citizen discount!
For you youngsters on here who may not know about Wilbur Mills (Democrat and former Arkansas Congressman) and Fanne Foxe, to learn more go to:

There's a mention of McCain and Romney as the R slate. Don't see that happening. These two can't stand one another.
How can anyone campaign against Obama? Every criticism of him is twisted to imply that it is racist. This is not what the words equal opportunity were meant to be in the U.S. He is not being treated equally, just favorably.
Heidi Fleiss, that famous Madam, has it right when she comments on the Spitzer screwup:
"There are so many different forms of prostitution. Politicians are the biggest whores on earth. They'll change their opinion for any amount of money, you know."
If you believe race is not or should not be a factor with Obama, then you must have your head buried in the sand. When 90% of the blacks vote for Obama and 75% of the whites for Clinton in Mississippi, you’d have to say race is a factor. I agree with the comment by Victor that Obama is getting a pass by playing up criticisms as being racial. Sooner or later, whether or not there is anything behind his great oratory skills will come out--racist or not.
A real gem from our future leader!
"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." -- Barack Obama
I read a news spot discussing VP candidates McCain has to pick from. One of those listed, way down the list, was Bobby Jindal-Governor of Louisiana. Google his name and read some of the items about him. If McCain is the maverick people say he is, Jindal should get a look see. He is only 36, so that probably automatically takes him out of being considered. Jindal is described as having the speaking abilities of Obama but with much more substance. He has put a lot of focus on ethics in government and trying to clean up his state’s government. Check him out.
Oh yes, he is also a minority.
Other than being 36, being a hindu who converted to catholic would be a tough sell as a vp possiblility. The liberals also dislike him very much.

Why was Mitt Romney raked over the coals and hammered about his Mormon religion and Obama is given a pass about his radical minister and the teachings of his Church?
Think about that question. And then we'll have liberal Clayton Ellsworth tell us how the right wing will throw the kitchen sink at Obama about his religion. Shouldn't all of us be throwing the kitchen sink at Obama and asking why for 20 years has he been accepting of racist religious teachings.
We better ask before it's too late!
What's good for questioning Romney is good for Obama.
AMEN!!
Again.
If you are a democrat, republican or independent who doesn’t think Barack Obama will be a good president. You are a RACIST.
Get ready for the subtle message. Relieve yourself of guilt and vote for Obama. You will feel better.
Blogmaster, how about leaving my opinion on your website.
How about Obama's campaign strategy: Make Clinton an unacceptable candidate to blacks.
That's not racist is it?
The problem in competing with Obama’s campaign is not one of him being an African-American. Clinton’s challenge is she must compete with a candidate who is almost immune from having any negatives about him or his backers publicized by the media. Two words describe what Obama has going for him: “media bias”----not racial bias.
I saw another good example of media bias, not related to Obama, on the Yahoo News site on March 12. Reporting on the Eliot Spitzer debacle, the article several times mentioned that Spitzer is a Republican. I’m sure this was just an innocent mistake. Yeh, sure!!!

Anybody who thinks Obama is getting a sweet ride from the media isn’t paying attention to the coverage of the remarks by his pastor. His candidacy could come unglued over this. Imagine what the superdelegates will do if Clinton adds to her big state victories by winning Pennsylvania and Obama is down in the national polls after taking hits over stuff about his pastor and whatever else the media finds over the next several weeks now that he’s so close to the presidency and merits closer scrutiny than he’s ever experienced.
You think the liberal part of the media brought up the issue of the pastor? What are you smoking. If some of the more conservative talk shows had not shown the tapes of the pastors message, it would have never been discovered. Even then some of the shows and news organizations are minimimzing what the pastor said and protecting Obama. Don't count on it having any impact on Obama's campaign. He will continue to get favored treatment. Count on that!
Voice of Reason--Your poem about Zanetti is a classic. It's very true also.
The media wants a Democrat elected. They ignore or downplay anything putting their chosen one (Obama) in a bad light. Over my many years, I have never seen such a blatant display of bias by members of the press and TV commentators. Keith Olbermann is a glaring example on the TV side. One of my business tenants has it pegged. He puts today’s press on the same level in the occupational food chain as pimps, drug dealers and rapists. I understand his point, even though he may be a bit harsh on pimps by considering them at the same level as the press.

Voice……I like all of your St. Patrick’s Day limericks--even the BAD ones!
Maybe Brian Creekbaum is correct and the media is taking a turn toward the objective on Obama. Time will tell. Although, the media is still providing much “soft landing” positioning for Obama about his pastor’s statements.
What is happening to the world of news reporting when it takes a skit on “Saturday Night Live” to point out how obviously biased the media is toward Obama? And it did so very effectively.
Looks like Obama’s land dealings with his Chicago real estate friend and campaign contributions he received from the guy (and others) are the next investigative topics. Brad and Bill should get on this. Could be the breakthrough they need to get them moved up and out of Ocala to the journalistic big time!
Here is an old St. Paddy’s Day limerick (probably not as good as Voice could do) about the Clinton/Obama fight:
There once were two cats of Kilkenny
Each thought there was one cat too many
So they fought and they fit, and they scratched and they bit
Till excepting their nails and the tips of their tails
Instead of two cats there weren't any.
My comment above was about the media, not “the liberal part of the media.” Seems like many people here know about the pastor’s remarks. Didn’t most of you find out about them through the media or other people who did? You weren’t all in the church when he made the remarks, were you? I’ve watched coverage of them on Fox News, which when I last checked was run by former Republican operative Roger Ailes and owned by arch-conservative businessman Rupert Murdoch. Is Fox News, which describes itself as “the most powerful name in news,” a “liberal” news operation?
I’m sure if you checked the votes of journalists overall you would find more for Democrats than Republicans, but professionally they are interested in getting a story that will interest the public. Just ask the Clintons, both Democrats who are no fans of the media, whose problems in Arkansas and the White House have received massive media coverage over the years.
It was inevitable that after stories about the Obama phenomenon and the historic nature of his candidacy became old hat that we would see tougher examination of his background by the media. They often build people up and then tear them down. It’s good for business.
Where on the internet can I find videos of the preachers comments that have caused such a fuss?
To see some of Pastor Jeremiah Wright’s remarks at issue, go to www.youtube.com and search for the videos titled as follows:
Obama's Pastor: God Damn America, US To Blame for 9-11
Obama's Pastor: "Hillary ain't never been called a nigger"
These are clips of news broadcasts by THE MEDIA – ABC News and Fox News.
Obama commented in an interview on Fox News. To see this, go to www.foxnews.com, then click on the Hannity & Colmes tab and look for the “Vehemently Disagree” video with a picture of Obama.
Thanks for the locations.
The Pastor is a real nutcase. I would have walked out of his church. Course I'm not black.
Watch for a rehash of the incident about the minister who supports John McCain. Another one of those well he does it too defenses.
