Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

Ocala City Elections: If You Were Running For Office

One of our alert bloggers reminded us that the City of Ocala election is October 18. So little campaign publicity that it almost slipped by!

Up for grabs are the position of Mayor and three City Council positions—Districts 1, 3 and 5. To get into the swing of things, here is our question of you for the City political races:

If you were running for one of the positions, what would be the most important thing you would commit to voters to improve about the performance of our City government?

Let’s have your comments. I bet some of the candidates will be looking at what you post. We will keep this section of the blog open and active through the election.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO CANDIDATES FOR THE CITY ELECTION:

If you would like to have us post a brief biography of your background, including a photo (optional). Just click on “E-Mail Us” send us your information and we will post your bio on our Home Page. Also, we are requesting that you include a concise statement concerning:

What is your position on downtown redevelopment?

In addition to posting your bio, you will also have the opportunity (if you want to use it) to communicate comments back and forth with the bloggers (voters) who post comments on our blog.

If You Were A County Commissioner?

In July, we focused our question of the month on our Marion County commissioners. If you are interested in reviewing the July blog activity (comments, etc.), please click on Archives--July.

We received several postings expressing your opinions about the job being done by our five county commissioners. The comments generally covered a range of “good job” and “bad job” dialogue about the county commission.

This month, we are continuing our discussion about the county commission but in a different way. We have a follow-up question:

If you were a county commissioner for one day, with unlimited authority, what would you do?

We know that some of the county commissioners are periodically visiting our Politically Homeless blog. They might be interested in getting our feedback on the above question. Also, we encourage individual commissioners, or other public officials, to post their comments on issues we are discussing.

Visits and postings to our blog are kept anonymous (unless you specify otherwise). We can not track ISP addresses or anything like that. We only receive a count of the number of people visiting our blog, but not who is visiting. So feel secure in using our blog.

Let’s hear from as many of you as possible with your viewpoint concerning our August
question. Just click on Comments below and give everyone your thoughts.
