Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

Apparently spending the most money is still the way to win a political office.

So when can we expect Nancey Stacey's announcement that she is withdrawing, so the Supervisor of Elections doesn't have to staff those additional precincts?

Yes. But let me tell you folks young Damon Baxley may be just what the doctor ordered in 2008. I'm impressed! If the Townley camp were to switch over, Mr. Kelly could be in deep trouble.

I want to see the dollars spent per vote.

Damon had to be the most productive of all the candidates.

At 11:15 PM, June 05, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

To figure out Damon's "productivity", you would have to be able to calculate how many uninformed voters thought they were voting for the guy that one the seat the last 4 times-his Dad. Impossible to know.

But I think it is obvious that if ANY of the other candidates had Kelley's money, Kelly would not be our new State Rep.

Franks won with whopping 65% of the vote, with a lot of it coming from Citrus. Dean sqeaked by, beating Baxley by less than 2%. It seems the Dems can win this race, if they get out and vote on the 26th or vote absentee!

All I can say is "HaHaHa". Childish? Yes, but thanks to PWF and the rest of the Kelly bashers, you helped in getting him elected. Townley got creamed. Wonder why? Because he blew it with his hate mail. The people have spoken and they didn't give too hoots about the Vanguard incident or those minors with guns. It's a great day when truth prevails over trash.

If his name was Damon Johnson or Damon Smith, Baxley would have gotten smoked. The only reason he did so well was because of his father being in office so long, his dad being on the ballot at the same time, and people constantly seeing the Baxley name with two candidates running for office. Any other candidate who campaign as little as he did and raised as little money was he did would not have made such a strong showing. Sorry Damon, don't get enthused by your results because as it stands right now, they probably wouldn't happen again. Try running for something like City Council and build your resume.

At 7:55 AM, June 06, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's a shame that the Democrats don't have a candidate for the general election. I can guarantee you that turnout wouldn't be very high on the Republican side. Kelly would get his same votes plus some of Damon's, but the Townley and Shaw votes would go to the other way if the Dems had a halfway decent candidate. Not saying that Millie Grissom could have pulled this off, but it would have been a winnable race for the right candidate - maybe even a decent NPA could have beaten Kelly. Of course, it's all moot and we'll just have to slog through the next year and a half with this schmuck representing us. The Republican primary for this seat should be pretty interesting next year.

All compliments to the victors. Just like in golf, a good short game wins a lot of tournaments.

Dean did a good job of mobilizing the highly aligned Citrus County voters. He ran strong ads in Marion County and worked his local turnout competently.

Marion County is... Well, it is Marion County. Fragmented and apathetic communities tend to be under-represented in government and deservedly so. Money may or may not equal speech (until the "Supremes" tell me, I do not know). Votes are votes, even in Florida.

Kelly targeted 1,000 supporters and was right about that number being the key. He will need a new strategy for the next run and I suspect he has already started writing that plan.

With a year in office to dig in and refine their plans, I would bet early and often (just like Chicago voting) that both win again.

Besides, with the Mayor's office and so many council and commission seats highly vulnerable these offices are bad seats to try for a newcomer. Especially since there are only 27 million reasons why to vote the local incumbents out.

Are you suggesting that the Baxley's should move out of the state? Both are going to be back and we'll see who is moving out in 2008. Could very well be the message for the Kelly/Dean liberal tandem!

Kelly bashers- go get the barf bags and SHUT UP. The voters have spoken. PORNell is a disgrace and the flyers he mailed were SUCH A LIE. I think it back-fired on him.

So the blog mentioned a spelling check on Kurt's ad- well what about Townley's botched ad in Sunday's paper. That was hilarious. It served should an evil man right. Someone should send it to Jay Leno.

As for Baxley, he is a nice YOUNG man but, the voters want experience. I wish Damon well but he needs to stop riding on daddy's coat tail and strike out on his own.

Kurt , we are proud of you and know that you must go thru the general election. During this campaign,You remained a man of your word and you took the high road despite what shime your opponents vomitted up. PORNell should be ashamed of himself. He is a snake. OK- how many times must one lose before he gets the picture- 3 times is enough- no more PORN lovers.

Kurt's message opposing amnesty for illegal aliens, support of prolife, property tax relief, keeping our water here- not saling to South FL,strong support for our veterans and education, addressing the FCAT and strong law enforcement was recieved by the voters.

GO KURT- we look forward to June 26. Many of us will be out in full force helping you once more.

Here's to all your bashers- get over it and starting wearing the green.

I look forward to voting for Damon Baxley in 2008. I made the mistake of wasting my vote on Shaw. I'm looking for a non-politician and should have gone with Damon. I thought Shaw had more support than he did. One thing I know now, Damon can get the support.
The reaction of some of the Kelly supporters post the election confirms Damon is the best choice. I like the mature and gracious way he approached his defeat. I don't like the way the Kelly supporters are approaching victory. See you people next year.

Go Damon in 2008!

It is my pleasure to see you damon and townley stewing over your loss. You all fired the first shots earlier in the blog attacking , smearing and playing slime ball politics. You all NOW have nerve calling me a name.
WOW- in reality you all slandered, called Kelly names and just plain out Lied about him .

I would like to thank you kelly haters for your negetive blows- the voters did not buy it. Damon- ONLY received his votes RIDING on a name recognition of his dad.

All of you need to go to an anger management course so you can learn some coping skills to move forward.

Like my dad would say,"if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". Maybe you all need to get out or better yet move away.

Keep it up. I just love it. Can't wait for Damon to wax your boy in 2008. Damon can do it without his dad's help. How about your boy? Won't he still need mommy to help him?

Your envy of Damon is begining to show through. How close was the vote? Embarrasing to Kelly. All that money and he barely wins against an upstart who has now become the "peoples candidate". Go Damon!

Baxley had a number of huge advantages in this race. In addition to the obvious ones, there are some more subtle. I'll give just the subtle but very important (that he will never have again.) 1. Turnout in Marion was high because his dad spent a bunch of money and constantly hammered on the theme of a "Marion County" senator - he rallied a higher than expected turnout in Marion for his race. Baxley Jr. got the vote of all those who came out just to see Sr. win against the Citrus County Dean. 2. Baxley was able to get Tallahassee money because of his Dad's current position and possible win for Senate. Baxley Jr. will never be able to get that kind of money for the next run. 3. There was no serious democrat or independent to contend with in the General Election - - The obvious ones are the voter confusion/comfort of voting for the Baxley name; the benefit of double the signs, ads, radio, etc. My analysis is that Damon will not be in office (if ever) for a very long time. This was a rare chance for hime to slip in and the opportunity has passed.

Analysis of the dollars per vote:

Baxley - $11.88
Shaw - $16.37
KK - $32.40
Pornell - $32.75

The younger guys did well. Baxley had all of the advantages above plus he probably knew of the race before anyone else did. Shaw was impressive for only 3 weeks in the race. He now has some name recognition to build on. KK won but it was expensive, and he had built-in name recognition from the school board. Pornell spent the most per vote and is probably cooked for good this time.

This race was big for KK and Shaw. Shaw will probably get into the School Board pool and be an early favorite for the appointment. He could will also be looking at a the same seat next year but will have much more time to gear-up for it. (From a good source:) Polling showed that Shaw was making gains in the last week and that he would have been a much more serious contender with some more time. A vote for hime was certainly not a waste because he now has some name recognition and high-influence supporters behind him and encouraging him to run again.

KK will get a bunch of Tallahassee PAC money so he will be ready for a run. Baxley is a nice guy but the high water mark for the Baxleys was June 4th, 2007.

There are a couple of positives to Kelly’s election and Governor Crist’s upcoming appointment to replace Kelly.

One, when looking through the list of those interested in the appointment, there are several who will be better than Kelly. A great opportunity for the Governor to improve the quality of our School Board. Second, Kelly will do a hell of a lot less damage as a State Representative than he has as a School Board member. I’m looking forward to the Governor giving us a new and better member of the Board.

Interesting all the Kelly supporters on the blog talking up the demise of the Baxley father and son combo. Don’t believe it.

The reason they are intent on down playing the Baxleys influence can be described in one word:

FEAR!!!

Kelly voter.

You are absoulutely right. The voters have spoken. And what did they say???

65% of those that turned out DID NOT VOTE FOR KURT KELLY. 65%!!!

The prvious post here talking of the FEAR on Kurt's part is absolutely correct.

Your boy is smart enough to read the numbers. An overwhemingly majority do not care for him.

Yes, the truth is Kurt is still a candidate for District 24.

But at some point you are going to have to admit that as you say "we will turn out in force for Kurt on June 26th", that force is not very big.

It is a house built on sand my friend. When the fall comes it will be loud. Be warned and be ready.

At 10:59 AM, June 07, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Knowing Kurt as many of us do, I would bet money that he has spoken with Damon and encouraged him to run for Schoolboard or County Commission.

Why? Kurt knows he does not want to face Damon again head to head.

Yo Nancy,

Where are you? I’ve been waiting for you to weigh in with your analysis of the primary results. Guess you are too busy running your campaign and getting ready to take down Kurt in the General Election LOL!

All the political analysts around the state are claiming it’s the end for all the Jeb Bush and Dennis Baxley style Republican politicians. The new wave types are slick, devious, will say anything to get elected and suck ups to big-money (special) interests. The good old conservative we have known in the past: hard working, plain talking, salt-of-the-earth types are gone. The election for Senate and House may well have confirmed that. Just look at who was elected.

As someone said, 65% of the people did not elect Kelly and about 53% did not elect Charlie Dean. Thank goodness, we may have hope for redemption of this election result at a later date.

Nancy, campaign hard! I’m down to you and Howler the Monkey for my write in on Jue 26.

I received information from a very good source today that Paul Ferguson has finally gotten the itch to get more involved in politics. Mr. Ferguson is applying for the School Board appointment to replace outgoing member Kurt Kelly.

According to my source, Mr. Ferguson and his wife are considering moving and several of the homes they have looked at happen to be in the Kelly District. He has been very concerned about the county’s education system for many years, and has told several people that the School Board might be the best area of local government for him to have direct influence.

Could be interesting!

Again, you kelly bashers are SOOOO mad that good judgment is clouded by your hatred and mean spirit.

Please do yourself a favor and except that kelly won on Tues.

No, we are not jealous of Baxley- quite the opposite- both Baxleys lost. It should be a non-issue at this point.

Paul Ferguson, Steve Herring and Ron Crawford MUST be ready to move to Chattahoochee by now. Please- take I-75 to I-10 and thru Tally. Oh- say hi the Kelly on your way thru. He would not give you the time of day.

As for mentioning Kelly's mom - I do believe you all that are knocking her MUST have a real mother complex. Go develop your own relationships with your own mother.
As for papa bax- this strategy did not work- close but NO CIGAR.

Got to go and celebrate!!!!!
GO KELLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The nembers on that $/voter analysis do not factor-in new money after the last report. Someone has said that KK spent over $130,000 and his figure on the analysis was based upon $90,000. I would assume that Baxley and Townley have a similar discrepancy whereas Shaw seemed to stop fundraising after the first week. Shaw probably had the best $/vote ratio after all is said and done.

At 4:53 PM, June 07, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That was 65% of Kelly's own party that voted against him.

Hell of a mandate by the voter's wouldn't you say?

5:21- At least Kelly may have the chance to address issue- Townley, Baxley(both) and Shaw will not.

Again- stop the falsehoods and get the facts straight.

RON CRAWFORD- you are the only person that calls him-Kurtie boy. How are you feeling?
As a Kelly supporter- I'm doing great. You like to dish it out - now it's your time to eat it.
Personally- I'm enjoying watching you all sworm and your continued fighting. Put down the gloves and surrender- you have been KNOCKED out.

Hey Anon 9:12 PM - What is your beef with the IB Program? It happens to be the best educational opportunity in Marion County for our children. For the "priviledge"? I think not. It is rigorous pre-university course of study that meets the needs of highly motivated secondary school students that actually want to learn. Not to mention the scholarship money that is awarded if they pass the IB exam. Our child went through the IB program and guess what? She is now in college thanks to the scholarship money; something this middle class family could not afford without it.

Kurt Kelly knows that if he didn't get what's her name to be a Write-In and close the primary, PArnell Townley would have cleaned his clock. No doubt. Smart move. I do hope you enjoy being elected by 2% of the electorate. It won't last long. Book it!

Notice the continued FEAR of Damon Baxley by the Kelly bloggers. Damon for School Board. I think not! He has a very good chance in 2008 to beat Kelly. I look forward to the return of Damon and his Dad for the House and Senate races in 2008. It will be a do nothing year for Kelly and give Damon more time to run a good campaign. He has many backers and he gained several more with his showing in this election. I did not vote for him this time around, but I will next time. He’s a fine young man who stayed out of sleaze and mud slinging and made a good showing.

At 9:14 AM, June 08, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Many, many blogs ago, PWF pointed out the 35% theory. At least 35% of the voters are either going to be for you or against you in any election. The question then is what about the other 65%.

Kurt Kelly got 35% of the Republican vote by default and he should have with the well financed campaign he ran, but that is all he was able to squeeze ot of his fellow conservative Republicans.

For the Kelly supporters to beat their chests and talk trash is denial of the reality of the election.

What candidate Kelly used as his campaign strategy is mostly what he will use again except he will trumpet the word re-elect unable to add much else new.

After the first term in office is when a candidate is usually most vulnerable. A short term makes this axiom more pertinent.

Opponents will now have time to put together better campaigns as well as allowing the electorate a chance to look them over more closely.

The quality of this race was bottom of the barrel stuff due in part to the short length of time.

I hope that 2008 finds the bar set a lot higher than subjective guff like who is the best Christian, who has done the most for the county, whose family tree is better that was blogged and whispered as well as publicly insinnuated.

The electorate deserves better.

Excellent points. The post yesterday by "Optimist" also is very appropritate. We have a chance to get a better school board member. It's up to the governor.

NEW LEADERSHIP FOR THE LOCAL REC?

Overheard a discussion among three of our local politicians at the Uptown Grille today.

They were of the opinion that Dennis Baxley will replace Randy Harris as the Chairman of the local Republican Executive Committee. Bringing some new leadership to the Party. Anyone else heard anything on that possibility?

At 3:46 PM, June 08, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

From a 185 membership of Harvey Klein days when he picked dennis to run for the legislature to today with abt 35 members, sounds like Dennis has a lot of work to do to get ready for 2008. Best thing goiong for him is a similar situation at dem headquarters. No body wants nuthin to do with politics these days.

How about a little political speculation from a non-resident?

Father and Son Baxley will run again in 2008 for Senate and House. Name on two ballots is a big advantage and they were close, close to taking all the bacon in the special election.

The Baxleys are cooked because they can't get at the Tallahassee money any more. Picture Damon ____________ on the ballot. He would gotten less than 1%. They had incumbancy and that is a huge advantage - now they won't.

On a different note, I hope that Nancy Stacy lady does not pull-out because that would shed a really bad light on the Christian community. He whole write-in candidacy would be based on a lie and deception. Even if she tries to deny that or explain it away, that is the PERCEPTION and it makes Christians look even more deceptive, self-centered, insecure and manipulative than they already do.

I didn’t vote in the special election. Politics is so dirty and anymore you can’t trust a thing candidates say or do during the campaigns. I’m also getting fed up with hearing about Kurt Kelly on the blogger and other places. I’m taking the advice of my next door neighbor and voting on June 26. I’m voting for Nancy Stacy like my neighbor is. I know she wasn’t at all serious about running. But I think she has more guts and brains than any of the people who were running including the winner in the primary Kelly. I’m going to the poll and doing only one thing I’m going to write in the name NANCY STACY. That’s all. A quick and easy election day for me.

He won fair and square. He did not stup to the slime pit of Townley.

Prediction- Kelly will win on June 26. Who cares about 2008 at this time- too many fews can happen between now and then.

All the word battling back and forth between the pro and anti Kelly troops is getting old, old, old. Kurt Kelly WON! Give him his year in the sunshine in Tallahassee and then we can see what he has accomplished.

I have high expectations of him, based on his claims as the only candidate with legislative experience (served as an Intern) and his vast experience on the school board. Mr. Kelly should be able to hit the ground running and get a lot accomplished. The immediate legislative actions I expect to see from him as my State Representative:

1. A special, extra exemption on property taxes for Iraq veterans who have served two or more years on active duty.
2. Free tuition for returning Iraq vets at any state university for their first two years.
3. A special tax on alcohol sales that is used to help pay for some of the state veteran’s services organizations.
4. A special tax on nudist colony receipts that is also used to pay for veteran’s services organizations.
5. Laws that make punishment for juvenile offenders stricter and give judges additional leeway in sentencing offenders and/or their parents.
6. Increases in the amount of state money coming to Marion County and local cities to help improve the recruiting of law enforcement personnel.
7. A tightening up of the laws concerning the qualification process for write-in candidates.

If Mr. Kelly gets it done, I’ll be satisfied. If not, then I’ll be looking at other candidates come the 2008 election. Accountability for results, not promises in a fancy campaign brochure, is what I want.

You mean someone actually thinks that Kelly has a Real Election on June 26. If he doesn’t get 100% of the vote against his partner in crime, Nancy Stacy, then something is totally wrong!

The question to be answered is how many people won’t even vote in the general election. I imagine that number will be extremely high—especially for District 24.

I’m staying away and waiting until 2008 and praying some miracle politician comes on the scene who will give many of us voters new hope. In the meantime, our School Board will soon have a new member who can give us better representation than we have been getting. I like Dick Hancock or Pat Gabriel for the position.

Isn’t it funny how so many suggestions for Steve Shaw and Damon Baxley to try for political positions other that State Representative are being made? I think either of these guys would be fine as Representatives.

Frankly, many voters would probably prefer non-politicians for a change. Let’s give a chance to people with intelligence, common sense and who have not already screwed up an elected political position.

Wonder where some of these suggestions are likely coming from? I have an idea---Kelly.

If we could duplicate Randy Harris and run him under different names to put him in majority control of all these elected boards only then could we make headway. Otherwise we are doomed and folks, we are DOOMED because Randy is one man. No one is going to stop this train because it is to far gone out of the station. Shaw for school board. What a good idea. He can join Herring and Crawford who seem to have problems obeying laws that don't suit them.

Shaw has a good start. Just look at his most recent campaign finance report. Small detail,

106.08
(3)(a) Any contribution received by a candidate with opposition in an election or by the campaign treasurer or a deputy campaign treasurer of such a candidate on the day of that election or less than 5 days prior to the day of that election must be returned by him or her to the person or committee contributing it and may not be used or expended by or on behalf of the candidate.

106.011
3) "Contribution" means:

(a) A gift, subscription, conveyance, deposit, loan, payment, or distribution of money or anything of value, including contributions in kind ....

So first he files his previous report late which is a violation, and now we have this stunt. Rules, laws not for him.. Yes he should fit right in.

You say this guy is an attorney?

randy harris not only was for the road tax last year but he brot up the idea of a special tax for roads 7 yrs ago. pwf insisted he sign the letter first ahead of other commissioners urging the tax before he wud take the issue to the chamber local govt committee to make sure harris was was for it and not just trapiung the other members for the rite wing to blast. crawford, lund, the bingo guy and other rite wingers were out with signs protesting the tax. to his crtedit, harris spoke in favor of the tax several times both times it was on ballot. ask pwf for all the details ne prolly remembers them better than i do.

At 12:24 PM, June 10, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dear exrecdropout....
I never heard Randy say he was for the road tax but desired "for the people to decide on their own taxing medicine". However, pwf says he heard him say he was for it BUT was he only for it to keep us from having an increased property tax??
That is what I believe Randy meant. The only way I could picture Randy being FOR A TAX of any kind would be that he considered one type to be the least of 2 evils. For example....if we didn't get a sales tax where EVERYONE had to pay I could see Randy fearing that ONLY PROPERTY OWNERS would be hit since there were unusued mils available to use to tax us property owners with. People who do have no guts to do what is right love to dissect/twist what good people like Randy say in the hopes they can make him likewise look gutless to JUSTIFY them REMAINING gutless.
So, if that was what Randy was thinking....that roads would be built one way or the other so let us use a sales tax NOT a property tax HIKE to pay for it he obviously got no press from the Blunder which is one reason I boycott ANYONE advertising there. You don't hurt them not buying the paper but by hitting their advertisers. So nice for all the Harris naysayers that they FINALLY found ONE thing they could use against Randy even though they have to use an ounce of truth along with it to help the lie go down that Randy was a phoney which he was NOT. Randy was a bit of an entertainer I admit BUT if he has to give liberals a dose of medicine (budget cuts) it should be with a smile.
Now, "THAT's A FACT". TEE HEE

It doesn't seem to concern 10:13 about all of the PAC, special interest, out-of-district and personal money that the other candidates used but it does concern him/her about Shaw's reporting. If we keep trying to beat-down honest and hard-working candidates like Shaw, we're going to have less and less good choices in the future. What is your problem with Shaw? It's easy to sit around and criticize but hard to get out there and try to do something about it. I did not hear Shaw say one thing bad about the other candidates, he only raised solid conservative ideas. What is your beef with Lawyers? What will we do about groups like the ACLU without conservative lawyers? What about the ACLJ, the Institute for Justice, and other conservative legal action groups, are they bad for the people? Give it a rest already.

Dear 10:30 anon:

Congratulations on being able to read a statute. What's your point?

Shaw reports no monetary contributions from 6/1/07 through 6/7/07.

Kurt Kelly, on the other hand, shows $3000 in PAC money was received on 6/7/07, with no indication it has been returned. And he has $32k to roll over into his reelection war-chest.

Politically homeless, my ass.

Morons, state campaigns can't have war chests. Before you start ragging other people, figure out the law. Campaign accounts have to be emptied within so many days of a general election. There is no roll-over. I can't stand Kelly, but there's nothing wrong with that finance. He was allowed to continue raising money as of wednesday morning. Learn some stuff before spouting off.

A good column by Brad Rogers today about the Senate & House elections. Brad’s article sums up the issues and candidates very well in two words (my words):

“NO SUBSTANCE.”

At the end of the day on June 26 we are going to be stuck with a do-nothing former state legislator and a do-nothing former school board member, Charlie (I Switched) Dean and Kurt (Doughboy) Kelly. Disappointing, but we only have a year to put up with the both of them.

Sorry, Damon, that I didn’t help your cause this time around. Always next year.

Brian,

I am not aware of any ethics complaints. There was some babbling/grandstanding from Owens (Parnell's Nephew) about Nancy's perfectly legal write-in oath. But he did not file a thing. Either he learned the meaning of the word OR or, he got scared that a stupid filing to the Florida Elections Commission would be in itself against the law and subject to $1,000 fine.

The only for sure filing was against Parnell Townley for his cheap re-elect stunt on his mailing. The complaint was sent to the to the Florida Elections Commission by write-in Nancy Stacy
for violation of;
106.143

(5) No political advertisement of a candidate who is not an incumbent of the office for which the candidate is running shall use the word "re-elect."

I am not sure if Shaw's late filing and or receipt of contributions within 5 days of an election requires a complaint or would be an automatic prosecution.

The Campaign laws are there for a reason. These are particularly simple to understand. Each candidate and treasurer gets a small booklet that informs them of the laws. Anyone who runs for office should care about the laws and should obey them.

At 8:32 PM, June 10, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Indeed, Brad Rogers column was right on the money.

I would add that having thought alot about the overall context that surrounds this shameful, bottom of the barrel, stone age campaign, we see an electorate and community severely harmed and politically set back many years.

To be blunt about it, The Marion County Republican Party, the party of power, is dominated by dogmatic right wing religious fanatics, who no doubt will be discussing the Scopes trials and evolution in 2008 as some Republican presidential candidates are now.

When new people consider moving to a new area they ask all the usual questions-schools, churches, health care, shopping centers, cultural events and so on. I doubt that a question about the political climate is ever asked. But it should be .

My wife and I think highly of Marion County but would be hard pressed to make a case for intellectual freedom, progressive government or a political climate able to move the county forward. Indeed we are moving backwards.

It has been said that we get the elected officials and goverment we deserve. In the case of Marion County, that means we are mediocre and deserve the mediocre [that is really being kind] elected representatives we are electing.

What nonsense.Reasonable moderate thinking, or God forbid, liberal thinking, is castigated and pillored by the fanatical right. If you doubt this read carefully this thread and the two that proceeded it.

I thought long and hard about revealing my identity on Politically Homeless. I will continue to do so, although, in retrospect, it was a mistake.

The nullification of the right to speak thoughtfully in opposition, without fear of reprisal, is almost fate accomplished in Marion County

A sad commentary to be sure, one that will haunt this county for a long time to come.

Clayton Ellsworth

The hatred on this blog against Kelly is obscene.

Kelly is competent and will represent our area with much class and integrity. Be good republicans and back Kelly. Stop being divisive and pull yourselves together for the sake of Ocala.

OK- you have had your temper tantrum. Grow up and except the fact the Kelly will most likely win on June 26.

The only reason you dislike him so is because he stands for the average person and stands for family Christian values. Kelly is that respectful, moral, intelligent, mature ,responsive and takes a stand for justice and right individual. Those that are attacking him either don't really know him or they are one of those that KELLY will fight against to represent right and truth.

My apologies. Yes. I intended my question above to refer to complaints to the Florida Elections Commission.

I think the statute pertaining to misuse of the word “re-elect" is clear, but in running political organizations, I have had to spend quite a bit of time on the phone to lawyers in Tallahassee because the laws weren't clear. I’ve spent so much time studying these rules and trying to comply with them that it took one attorney up there about five phone conversations to figure out I wasn’t an attorney.

I went to a lot of trouble in 1998 working to comply with the unfair surprise statute, even hiring a private investigator to track down one candidate I was trying to notify. It turns out I could have blown the whole thing off. A federal district court declared the statute unconstitutional not long after that election. I don’t know if it’s still on the books, but just to keep us all confused, the legislature left it on the books for years even though the court had told the state they couldn’t enforce it and they weren’t.

Shaw's late filing gets an automatic fine. As far as the late contributions, I went to his filing and it appears that he listed some in-kind contributions. Provided that he has cash in his account, he can simply pay for the in-kind contributions and amend his filing to reflect exlenses rather than contributions. Even if Shaw were not to amend, prosecution on that minor issue is at the discretion of the elections secretary and unlikely.

Shaw's contributions within 5 days of the election were not checks or cash but "in-kind" and are shown as "vehicle use" and a small dollar ($25 or so) of "lumber." I agree that Shaw should just pay for the stuff and amend his filing.

I guess the Democrats or NPAs don’t count with him, or never did. Probably why they weren’t allowed to vote for him. I’ll stay home. Why get involved in the election of someone who represents only half of the community. Let’s see him get re-elected in 2008 on that basis.

Attention taxation with no representation,
To bad you hate Christian leaders like Kurtie but I heard if from the horse's mouth that Nancy told one person what she was going to definitely do and I know who it was. She has offered to take a lie detector proving Kurt or Damon didn't know nor did their campaign chairman. She told me the look on their faces were priceless when they saw her that day in Tallahassee. I only wish the Democrats/npa people nationally were as lazy as the ones here in Marion County and then we could have a president elected only by Republicans. You could have run for your Democrats to have someone to vote for just like N.Stacey did. You people love welfare so therefore you can not comprehend why the Republicans have a problem with the idea of them funding candidates for you to waddle down to vote for just like your sidekicks waddle down to get welfare checks? That is simply political welfare where you liberals expect not to pay a penny toward the political process yet expect to hijack the efforts of those who have. Put your money where your mouth is and fund your own candidates as foreign an idea as that may sound to you. Get over it, a process is in place to block you political welfareites. I just wish there was a way to block the other welfare slugs from hijacking my check book and having multiple children at my/our expense not theirs. Sorry liberals but no political welfare allowed in Marion County and as Mrs. Stacey would say "That's a Fact".

Can you believe this guy. Liberals are slugs. Nancy Tacy says that liberals are "fruits and nuts ".

Such bigotry and hatefullness.

This underscores my blog of June 10th, 8:32 PM.

Next we will be hearing "if you don't like it, get out of town " as has been suggested on this blog awhile back.

Unbelievable in this day and age.

Hey Clayton...hang in there!!

As I told you when you first got involved with Marion politics:

They ALL will stab you in the back.

I think you get a better picture now. Were these two special elections a load or what? BTW pwf is no exception. Be very careful what he tells you. All of these self annointed "politicians and experts" simply need a job. Period.

I urge ALL Democrats in that district to vote for the write-in candidate. Lets see if she can win.

I will changing (temporarily) my libertarian status to (gag) Republican so I can vote in the primary.

If Andy Kesselring runs in that state house seat next year he will win. Mini-Me Baxley will run again I'm sure. He and Kurt will split the "abortion..guns and god" conservatives and the moderates will get Andy elected.

Let's make a deal.

Us Kelly bashers will go to "anger management" classes if you kelly lovers will attend "what to do when people have different opinions other than me" class.

My simple point is that it is unfortunate that kelly supporters (and yes half the anon posts here is support of Kurt are Nancy) label anyone with a different opinion or dislike of the arrogance of Kurt Kelly as a person who needs "help".

It truly is a public display of their narrow minded ways.

It has been said, "...the mind which is open to new ideas never comes back the same size".

Go to Tally Kurt. Enjoy your year. Try to prove yourself. Even those close to you are hoping you will just keep your mouth shut and be humble. District 24 is watching. District 24 will be prepared in 08'. You have a lot of work to do.

Oops. I jumped the gun. Sorry. I cant wait to see what percentage of people turn out and vote for Nancy. How exciting. Could you just imagine if she won?

What Brad and others fail to point out;

In Senate District 3 there are over 38,000 registered Republicans and over 7,700 came out to vote in their primary (about 20%), yet while there are over 35,000 Democrats registered only a little over 1,400 came out to vote (4%)in the Dem primary.

You first have to have a franchise in order to be "disenfranchised"

Keep up the good work Nancy!

The Democrats are pathetic!

If anyone thinks they are going to get organized around a vote of protest by writing in Nancy Stacy, forget it. I doubt you could even get 50 Democrats to write in her name. First that takes too much effort for the lazy fools and second, many don't know how to spell. So if the name isn't printed for them, they are lost.

And that's the truth!

Those for anti amnesty for illegal aliens, pro-life, for reduced property taxes, keeping our water in ocala, protect our gun owners rights to bare arms, relook at the FCAT , issues facing our aging population, veterans concerns. These are just a few of the issues that KURT KELLY will be fighting for. I will vote for a man who has a backbone and has the know how of getting issues addressed.Kurt is that person.

God bless you Kurt!

Leslie—Some of the issues you listed that Kurt is going to work on are great ones, if he was going to be in Cliff Stearns’ job and not in a rinky dink state rep. job. About half of what you said he will work on shouldn’t even be on his list. Maybe he should try to take out Stearns and get immigration, health care, my social security, etc. fixed. If you think these issues are going to get solved by a state legislator, you have been in the sunshine way too long.

One of the problems I’ve always had with Kurt is he works on too many of the wrong things and consequently isn’t able to deliver much in the way of results. Just look at the inability of anyone to provide “credible examples” of his personal accomplishments while in office.

State legislators can get our taxes and property insurance expenses down, but aren’t even doing too well with that—just got an increase of 12% in my homeowners insurance today. Other than these two big items, they can create a new license plate or two every now and then for recognition. Real action and responsibility is at the local and federal levels, all government in between is an absolute waste of taxpayer money.

Just my opinion. Criticize and poke fun at me if you want. Call me a bad Christian or whatever, but I don’t think Kurt is what we need in the legislature. I’ll take the heat, unlike some of you who just can’t accept that not everyone in Marion County is enamored with Kurt Kelly.

Got a cell call yesterday while I was sitting in the dentist office from a friend that listens to the local comedy time radio announcer only because she knows one of the daily 4 callers. She said "this clown on the radio just said hello to you as if you were listening but I knew you don't even own a radio". She is right, my only radio is in my car so unless I'm in the car during a talk show I don't hear it. I hit his station only when I'm surfing the dial if WOCA is not interesting that morning. I couldn't tell you where it is on the dial except it is below 100 but FM or AM? My car has two stations on automatic punch and those are WOCA and Chip and PC station. Actually years ago I heard this same puffer on WOCA but heard he got thrown off of there? One thing is for sure.... I am a Christian conservative, married to my first husband 36 years so therefore have no interest in what anyone has to say who I'm told never stops judging others when he has a history of domestic violence against his previous wife. Any man accused of abusing a woman has not one ounce of credibility with most people which is why I'm told he has been kicked off of multiple radio stations locally. I bet you if someone called Kurt Kelly and asked him how to find that puffer on the dial he too would not have a clue. I'm told that all the REAL radio stations that have some "ratings" kicked him off pretty quickly. "That's a Fact".

Hello Folks:

Thanks for the support. Boy oh Boy we must have hit a nerve. For a politician to dig up an arrest record from approx. 20 years ago on a local radio talk show host who has no listeners and no influence is interesting. For all of those who are interested, yes I was arrested for domestic violence but the case was dropped because there was no case. Being arrested doesnt mean you committed a crime. But I can tell you one thing for sure, we have more than 2,700 listeners and haven't had to spend over $100,000.00 to get them.

At 12:38 PM, June 12, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

bobby,
Thanks for the info. I was told this long ago back when you were at WOCA station. That was a long time ago. I had actually totally forgotten about it until you sparked my memory by being so judgemental of others. Where do you get the 2700 listeners? I heard one of the politicians did a poll in the last election and was asking name recognition questions to see where people got their info. The main person that was known in this area was Chip Morris over at WSKY 97.3 where he reaches a surprisingly huge audience. Seems like John Lund over on WOCA was also known by some but not one person in the poll mentioned your name I was told. "That's a FACT"

Yo, Bobby D:

Hope you are with many of us in getting write in's for Nancy.

Voters deserve an alternative to Kelly, and with Damon out of the picture they should pick her instead of Kelly!

I'm familiar with the survey she mentioned, it was done by people looking at supporting either the road or school tax issue. My take, the poll told them nothing about listener counts--there is another measure that determines that.

Hello Nancy:

Good information about the name recognition stuff. Who was the politician and when was the poll taken? I definately can see how Chip and PC have more name recognition, they are on a talk radio station that promotes what they do, they better have better name recognition. But I bet Chip and PC wish they had all the sponsors that we have on the show. Why don't we just stop all the back and forth and you come on my show. Your husband has been on my show and also at the lunch bunch. Come on down and lets talk about it on the air. Based on how much you know about me it is becoming more and more obvious that you have an attraction towards me. Please I am already taken, by an extremely attractive, intelligent, classy lady who has given me 7 lovely children. Sorry Nancy. But I hope you still keep listening.

Bobby 'D' Here are some notes for your next show;

However, understood as a moral action, the willful breakup of a marriage or abandonment of one's spouse is indeed seriously wrong. The Catechism of the Catholic Church makes clear, following on Scripture, that God hates such divorce.

2382 The Lord Jesus insisted on the original intention of the Creator who willed that marriage be indissoluble. He abrogates the accommodations that had slipped into the old Law. Between the baptized, "a ratified and consummated marriage cannot be dissolved by any human power or for any reason other than death."

2384 Divorce is a grave offense against the natural law. It claims to break the contract, to which the spouses freely consented, to live with each other till death. Divorce does injury to the covenant of salvation, of which sacramental marriage is the sign. Contracting a new union, even if it is recognized by civil law, adds to the gravity of the rupture: the remarried spouse is then in a situation of public and permanent adultery.

Bobby "d" the only person on the radio that really can be asked the question: When did you stop beating your wife?

At 3:45 PM, June 12, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i aint a catholic but since the catholic church blessed the annulment of that first marriage because the wife deceived the husband, seems that we who are not catholic should have little to say about it. personally, i have no desire to have seven kids but a long as bobby and his lady can support them and raise them correctly it is not my business or nancy's. for her to "out" bobby d in an effort to embarrass him is disgraceful, just as it was for her to dredge up something about sue mosley's kid rather than go to opd and find the truth abt her boy kurtie. buy her conduct is typical of those who have to tell u they are such a moral christian. more she talks more i think i will vote for her. if she wins, we get rid of her for awhile.

LOL Bobby....Yes all about the same time of the domestic violence charge was another rumor that some of those 7 children you just spoke about were born on government WIC program or Medicaid or some government program? I never repeated that because I never knew if it was true but now you can share if it is or not? Supposedly there are people in the community that know?? Regardless, after hearing all those rumors about you my terrible attraction for you just went up in smoke like a poof. Tee hee. I then decided
I should just focus on handsome athletic Coach Rocky Stacy who I knew could afford to fund my huge
horse/dog budget plus he never struck me. Tee hee again...
Decided you probably couldn't afford me afterall. LOL! Rocky still loves me even after I gained 40 lbs when I hurt my back on a horse a few years ago because I stopped all exercise for a year! The horse I ride AIN'T to thrilled with me though. LOL! He groans. Now back to the FACTS as to why I can't listen to your voice on the radio without shaking my head in disgust. About every 4 months I get bored on WOCA and flip channels running across you while driving down the road only to quickly return to WOCA's author interview I have no interest in. I just can't bear to listen to people that expect more of others than they do themselves. For example.....we should ignore those arrest records on you because charges ended up going away BUT you KNOW that those Vanguard kid's vandalism charges were dropped but you continue to bash them calling them vandalism criminals??? So, why are they different than you?
Because you are nothing but a liberal who expects more of others than you do yourself but you are simply a pro life liberal. Those kids ended up with a simple trespassing violation that would not have held up in court had the parents been able to afford an attorney because the school was not properly posted. Honestly, I thought the public could go onto school property off hours if they didn't harm anything as I have seen kids parked in the parking lots at schools visiting with buddies at night for years. Those kids didn't cost the district one cent of damage. I didn't even know you could be charged for TRESPASSING on GOVERNMENT property so the kids probably didn't either. In fact, the case was so rediculous that an employee of the police dept told me PERSONALLY that they were PERSONALLY paying to have 2 of the kids records expunged FOR THEM who can't afford it!! YET, knowing all of this you have continued to LIE and say Kurt protected vandels KNOWING those kids were not charged with vandalism?? You cast stones upon others but when they cast them back your way you are just outraged aren't you. Typical liberal mindset! No I won't be on your station because candidates who come on their LOSE so it would be terrible for my campaign! You have a real problem allowing a little truth to help your vindictive lies go down and everyone knows it. I believe to this day that the Baxley's lost be cause of YOU sir. If I win it will be because I did NOT go on your show! I now rest my case about you. "THAT'S A FACT"

I wouldn't normally respond to such immature banter, but since I was implicated as a "public sinner," I feel it appropriate to respond. My husband and I were married in a sacramental union at Queen of Peace Catholic Church ten years ago by Father Patrick J. O'Doherty. In the eyes of the Roman Catholic Church and in the eyes of God, neither us has ever been previously married. I think it is sad and despicable that people would take such personal topics which have nothing to do with any issue at hand and use them to try to hurt a family in this community. I was under the impression that this blog is reserved for political issues. Apparently, people enjoy mindless gossip even more than they enjoy politics. The "blogmaster" of this blog should re-evaluate whether these types of personal attacks should be allowed, particularly by people who don't have the courage to use their names.

Even the Catholic Church has been creative in getting around the issue of forbidding remarriage by using the doctrine of "annulment".

$150 filing fee when the case is initiated, $300 when the questionnaire is submitted, and an additional $300 at the conclusion of the procedure

Easy as one, two, three, ehhh Bobby 'D'

Hello:

Re: annulment fee for my annulment
Zero. I didn't pay a plug nickel for the process. It really is a wonderful thing that the church does to make people realize that God is all loving and merciful. My annulment was approx. 65 pages and helped me understand why things went wrong in the first place. It makes you bring up your childhood, teenage years, college years and the years of your marriage. There are only a few reasons the Catholic Church will give an annulment. The reason why my annulment was granted was because my ex wife took a vow, in front of God, that she would have children and raise them in the Roman Catholic Faith, she chose not to do so. So according to the Roman Catholic Church I was never married. As far as the other personal things, interesting, once again I must have hit a nerve. Bringing my childrens insurance into the debate is so typical. Remember the art of debate, the first person that gets personal loses. Lets not forget we are all on the goverment breast, public school is a goverment program and actually the most costly goverment subsidized program in the history of America. Plus by homeschooling I save the school system approx. $50,000.00 per year. What about goverment employees who have a % of their insurance paid for by the goverment, same thing. What about social security, same thing. So I have no problem about answering personal questions, but not on this blog, Nancy, face to face on the radio for the whole community to hear. And be prepared to talk about Seminole Feed & Illegtimate Kids. And you can just say thank you now that I didn't bring up those personal issues against your husband when he ran for office. Actually why don't you bring him in and we can ask him how it feels to live in a town your whole life, be involved in politics and on all kinds of committees, actually was the Vice-Chair of the republican party both times he ran, be a sports coach for all those years, have you help him with his campaign and lose a political race to two unknowns. That would make a great show and since you will be there with all your connections, who knows I might have more than 3 listeners.

The personal attacks STARTED with Bobby and an accomplice so I rest my case when I say he can dish it out but can't take it back. I will always retaliate when fools ask for it so I'm sure Sue Mosley who knows me well isn't shocked as to why she landed in the cross fire. I have been quite patient for Nancy Stacey and much easier on your husband than I am on most people who lie about me especially when I have never uttered their name in a derogatory way first. I MEAN HE HAS LIED ABOUT ME AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY!!!! I don't START arguments but do believe in FINISHING them. Maybe his ex-wife would like to read what you had to say??? There is no way I could make history as a write-in candidate if I come on his show because people are now writing my name in if I don't. The teacher's union is rightfully horrified at the thought that IF a REAL Republican goes to Tallahassee right now the Republicans will surely send them back in 2008.

How many spouses refuse to press charges out of fear?

So Bobby just when did you stop beating your wife?

"The reason why my annulment was granted was because my ex wife took a vow, in front of God, that she would have children"

Do you really think that a woman would want to have a child with someone after they beat them?

Unfortunalty my spouse is an elected official, something that you have never experienced, so I have to be some what civil. And just for the record, my ex wife was from Colombia South America and her Father was the President of Alcan Aluminum in Colombia. I urge all Independents, Constitution Party members,Libertarians , Reform Party members and members of other parties to write in Nancy Stacy for state representative in the Disrict 24 election in early voting or at your precinct on June 24th.I for one am sick of the exclusion of everyone except Republicans in an election in which everyone else is shut out because of a technicality.

Bobby,
My first child was born when Rocky and I were married 10 years, the second after 15 years and the
third one adopted after 17 years so you obviously heard something wrong as we have been happily married (never separated once) for 36 years this month. I have no problem with you bringing anything up my son did at 19 years old since you already have anyway when you first attacked me on the blog last month. His case never even had a court date. LOL! You hit the blog early on attacking my son and your wife is seemingly shocked I retaliated?? What my son did at
19 years old was his responsibility because after 18
I could no longer do much. Steve H. surely understands that with his son's antics just like Sue with her child yet they delighted in bringing my son's antics up 2 years ago that I heard about and now I find out the story has been continually exagerated ever since by you Bobby?? I have actually been quite tolerant in that I waited this long to retaliate. Still wouldn't have retaliated had you not reignited everything last month on the blog. See Bobby, we all have little issues with grown children that hopefully these young adults learn from. Some do and some don't. Thank goodness my son was raised right and God promised me he would return back to his teachings from his childhood and he did. He is an engineer today who says getting into trouble for something he did at 19 years old probably is why he got right with the Lord and turned himself around. He was deeply depressed at that time over having to leave college football after blowing 2 discs out in his back so made a really stupid mistake. Today he says he was probably begging for help and thank goodness he got it before he killed himself on his motorcycle. He was racing that too at about 150 miles per hour all during that same summer and I wish he had been arrested for that too BUT the officer just gave him a warning? What scares me is that had my son NOT been caught for BLATENTLY taking something that didn't belong to him (he wasn't even hiding it or sneaky about it???) his next step was surely the grave.
I am SOOO thankful my son received help before I lost him on this earth and many parents are not that fortunate. They bury their children before they even realize the child had a problem. I thank you for this opportunity to share with everyone how wonderful God is and that he smiled down on our family. Death would have been such a sad consequence for my son
and he was so ashamed of what he was doing that he said he may have subconciously been trying to end it all by driving the motorcycle outragious speeds. His best friend WAS killed at this same time on his cycle which added to his depression. Bobby, only when your 7 children grow up and demonstrate to you that THEY and not YOU control what they do after 18 years old (or sooner for many) will you fully understand what Rocky, Sue, Steve and many of us have experienced with our children. Frankly, the more children you have the more the law of averages is on the side of trouble. If there are any parents on this blog with teenagers and you see them suddenly having extra money on hand for a couple of months find out why? I noticed it that summer
but it never occurred to me it was not HIS money he had saved but instead money he had taken. It was like he WANTED me to see it??? I just didn't get it?? I love my son and thank God daily for showing mercy and leaving him here even if was to face redicule from people just like you Bobby. My son tells me he has asked God for forgiveness and I'm sorry for you Bobby that the ONLY attacks you can launch at me are thru my children.
I reiterate...remember...you took the first swipe at me so should not be surprised at all that I have FINALLY had enough.

Rory,

Well said. We may not get her elected, but we can sure as hell make Kelly take the June 26 election seriously. Encourage all your friends to vote for Stacy. I'm working hard on campaigning for her.

Bobby,
Oh in reading I am the one illigitiment. Can't spell it though LOL! My mother WAS married when I was born but not to my biological father thank goodness. I thought illigitiement meant "out of wedlock" because I was not? I was raised with a silver spoon in my mouth by my stepfather
and didn't even know the man my mother was married to at my birth wasn't my father until I was about 23 years old and had been married 6 years. So. therefore couldn't have caused me any childhood distress as it was the family's best kept secret. After knowing my birth father a while I fully understood why mom married someone else besides my biological father as he was divorced about 8 times in his life time. Ugh....she did me a huge favor. So, some brave anon named Bobby D just called all adopted children bitches but THIS ONE prefers to be called a biche' with the French slang sounding prettier. BUT you cowardly anom you just insulted my lovely daughter that we adopted from an UNWED mother in El Salvador when she was an infant. She is far from a bitch or a biche' but was an innocent child for which I thank God every day that her mother did not abort her.
You are sick....but then again your being a closet liberal I'm now convinced you would secretly rather a woman KILL my daughter than place her for adoption since you speak of adopted children as dogs?? Those who know her to include Sue Mosley (regardless of our disagreements) would surely be the first to attest to the fact that this world will be a much better place because of her birth mother sparing her life. She is a true angel in human form and you called her a dog??! I can not believe what you said about her!
She has known all her life she is adopted and why. I only found out as an adult but with a father who raised me like a princess with horses, dancing lessons, music lessons, modeling lessons, provided a huge home in a great neighborhood and all the love he could give my saddest thought is that he passed away just before my first child was born and he never knew him. I never told him about finding out accidently about my biological father because it would have broken his heart. It was much like how many adopted children who accidently find out about their birth parents as adults handle matters. They often never tell their adoptive parents so they won't feel threatened. My wonderful stepfather died of lung cancer 6 months before HIS first grandchild (my son) was born and he never knew that 3 years earlier I found out about my biological father. Folks, being a sperm donor does not make you a "father". My STEPFATHER was MY father and always will be. I miss him terribly and often wondered if he was the guardian angel in heaven that protected my son from himself until he could get some help 6 years ago?? Well, you guys who despise me need to thank the coward anom Bobby for me leaving because everyone knows I have an adopted child so his comments were directly aimed at her too. You did finally get my goat as very few people ever have.
I only have one child left for you to attack Bobby D but since he has no negative history just feel free to make something up since that is your normal pattern. I believe with all my heart that the Anom that called all adopted children born out of wedlock a dog (bitch)was Bobby and I now know I have nothing in common with low class slime like him. BELIEVE ME....the LAST person I will tell is Rocky Stacy about this discussion. Thank GOD he doesn't have a clue how to find this blog
or Bobby on the radio dial to hear this. He would find it a hoot that he was beat by "no names" when Carmen was Pres of the "School Foundation" (very smart girl) and the other a very popular teacher with a well known last name that has incidently done a great job since she won. We look forward to voting for her in the next election. Rocky's only claim was that he came out on top of the 3 men in the race but those two
two woman hammered all the men! Moral to that story is that woman win school board races especially if they are outstanding teachers and in Rocky's case the teachers were all very well known and very well loved. No need for me ever to even go to this website again. The blogmaster is given permission to tell you if my computer ever opens to this blog site again. I am cured....have fun Bobby attacking my son and folks on the blog who know me please don't tell me what he says. I don't even care.

Why not really screw up the situation and vote for Nancy Stacy?

The June 26 special general election for State House of Representatives District 24 has one candidate who will have his name on the ballot, Kurt Kelly, and one write-in candidate, Nancy Stacy, whose name will not appear on the ballot. The question arises: What would be a significantly large vote total for the write-in candidate? I would suggest drawing on history for a benchmark.

In this election, the qualification of a write-in candidate for the general election caused the primary to be closed. This situation has been the subject of proposed legislation more than once since the Florida Constitution was amended in 1998 to conditionally open primaries so that all voters can vote regardless of party affiliation. Such legislation causes a staff report to be produced. For example, the Florida Senate Professional Staff Analysis and Economic Impact Statement dated April 23, 2007 for CS/SB 1820 contains relevant background information. The full report is available on http://www.flsenate.gov. As an aside, former Ocala mayor Wayne Rubinas is director of the staff that prepared this report.

The Senate staff was asked to research all state legislative races in Florida since the open primary amendment to the Florida Constitution in 1998. They report finding 599 such legislative races. They found 38 primaries closed exclusively because a write-in qualified for the race.

The average margin of victory by the partisan candidate over the write-in candidate(s) in the 38 general election races where the presence of a write-in candidate closed the primary was 99.8 percent. The smallest margin of victory by the partisan candidate over the write-in candidate in these 38 general election races was 99.0 percent (meaning the worst performance for a candidate with his name on the ballot was 99.5 percent and the best write-in performance was 0.5 percent).

In 11 of these 38 general election races, the qualified write-in candidate received a total of three or fewer votes. In seven of these 38 general election races, the qualified write-in candidate did not receive a single vote, meaning that even the write-in candidate did not vote for the write-in candidate.

Based on this history, a Stacy vote of more than 0.5 percent would be unprecedented in these circumstances. In round numbers, there are 98,000 registered voters in District 24 eligible to vote in the special general election. Based on various turnout levels, here is what 0.5 percent of the vote corresponds to in terms of number of votes:

5% turnout ------------ 25 votes

10% turnout ---------- 49 votes

15% turnout ---------- 74 votes

20% turnout ---------- 98 votes

You can also compare the current situation to recent local history. In 2004, the qualification of Ben Klein for a county commission race closed the primary in which incumbent county commissioner Andy Kesselring was running. Kesselring won the primary and faced Klein in the general election with only Kesselring’s name on the ballot for that race.

Unlike Stacy’s, Klein’s public posture was that he wanted to win, and he ran an active campaign. For example, I saw him at a candidate forum at the Hilton that year with a table set up with a display board on it and printed literature. He was actively soliciting people who came by for their support.

A report I have from the Marion County Supervisor of Elections says that Klein received 4.58 percent of the vote.

To Bobby D - Are you really trying to suggest that your radio show has more sponsorship than Chip & PC on Sky? That's the silliest thing I have ever heard. Are you actually an employee of a radio station or do you just buy time based on a relationship with Queen of Peace? Is it talk radio or religious outreach? You are simply not in Chip & PC's league, but you do have a forum for like minded local gossip mongers.

Oh, by the way, you never answered Nancy. I'll make it easy; What federal, state or local welfare programs have you, your wife and children benefited from?

I agree with Bobbie D that the public school system is the largest and most wasteful welfare program in existence. The Florida Constitution guaranteed an "adequate" public school system - that has grown to mean an extravagant government program that is a pure monopoly. Not only is every public school family getting welfare but more so are the school administrators. It is well known that "education" programs in the Universities are the weakest academic programs that don't even take their own medicine (they don't have to take stringent entrance exams like the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, or LSAT). Administrators load-up on easy credentials and then claim to "deserve" the bloated salaries that they get. If Bobbie D's kids are homeschooled, he is saving the taxpayers boo-koo bucks and he deserves any money that he is legitimately entitled to under any government program.

Hey Nancy:
I don't know what medication your on but I never mentioned your son on this blog or anywhere else. First things first, I am not a coward and if I wanted to bury your son, who I coached at Forest High School, I would have done it on my show, not on this blog. So thats one thing you got wrong. The other stuff is just too much, I hope that you are seeing a good Doctor, this is not the Doctor Phil Blog. Remember you start everything or your good buddy Kurt does and everyone in this county knows it and if you and Kurt don't get your way you stomp your feet and cry like a two year olds. I first witnessed it when you dragged Ron Crawford in on the Cheerleader deal and Ron Crawford got buried by the callers by supporting your silly communist idea that everyone should make the cheerleading squad. I will once again say I will answer all personal questions about my life on the radio, I have been very open about my personal life and I have no problems answering all questions live on the air. As far as Chip and PC sponsorships I will again say that they wish they had the money coming in that I have. As far as a partnership with Queen of Peace, they sponsor a show on Daystar Radio, thats what radio salesmen do, sell radio time. Hey leave chip and pc out of this, they have to worry about ratings, since my time is fully sponsored out I dont have to concentrate on ratings like them. Leave those guys alone, they have an important role in the community. The more people on the air the better for all of us. Some politicians just won't come on my show to face the music, (mr. kelly and mr. yancy) Mr. Creekbaum has it right. A big turnout for Nancy Stacy will show the big money people in Tallahasse that Mr. Kelly isn't the big shot he wants people to believe he is. My vote is for Nancy Stacy. Write it in make a difference. Go Nancy Go.

Mr. Creekbaum has given us a goal for getting out the vote for Nancy Stacy. How about Nancy getting in excess of 0.5%. That would be the level it takes to prove that Kurt Kelly does not have the great support his people on this blog keep telling us.

To end the day: GO NANCY STACY! The best Republican for the job.

My personal interpretation of the data I presented above is that below 0.5 percent for Stacy would be within the normal “noise” vote, if you will, that write-ins get in this kind of situation and that above 0.5 percent would take the Stacy vote into “message” territory with the strength of the message going up with the size of the vote.

Many experienced observers believed Klein’s 2004 write-in was an attempt to reduce Kesselring’s chances in the 2004 primary by closing it. Kesselring won the Republican primary, anyway. I don’t believe Klein ever admitted publicly that he was trying to cut Kesselring off from support outside the Republican Party.

I think the Klein vote in the 2004 general election is fairly interpreted as a protest against Kesselring not being “conservative” enough in the eyes of those who voted for Klein.

A Stacy vote of five percent would put the strength of the message in that vote on par with the message sent to Kesselring in 2004.

What would be the message(s) of the Stacy vote? From the comments I’m seeing, I take it the message would be one of dissatisfaction with Kelly and/or the method one of his supporters used to prevent a majority of District 24 registered voters from being eligible to vote in the primary.

Participants in the blog:
I urge you to remember Nancy in your prayers. As those who used to participate in the GOP REC know, she has a serious problem when she duzn't get her way. She has a vicious spirit when somebody runs up against her, and rants and raves. Also pray for Rocky. He was a good REC vice chair, and would have made a pretty good school board member except his wife causes people not want to take a chance. Bobby, continue to take the high road, and let her rant. May God give her peave.

Hey Mr. Bobby D - I find it interesting that you are sponsored by the Catholic churches and claim to follow the Catholic faith, however, the venom you spew is far from any religious teachings I know of. In re: to your previous post about certain people that will not come on your show - why would they? So you can confront them with the gossip that you are fed by your buddies? You can't have it both ways; stick to your "Catholic" forum and stay out of local politics. You are biased and unfair to your guests and have only one agenda; your religion.
