Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

Are Voters Saying “We Vote For NONE OF THE ABOVE”?

If you had a party and over 90% of those you invited didn’t show up, would you feel rejected?

The turnout for our local General Election seems to reflect public sentiment about politics in general. With the popularity rating for our President and our Democrat controlled U.S. Congress at record lows and growing concerns about the lack of good solutions to some of the important problems our State and local governments are facing, voters seem to have just stepped back and said “no interest”.

Obviously, turnout was not that good for the Senate District #3 and House District #24 races (8.7%). The predicted winners (Dean/Kelly) won, but most voters seem to be sitting back and hoping for a more competitive slate of candidates in 2008.

A further indication of voter dissatisfaction can be gleaned from the unusually good performance of write-in candidate Nancy Stacy. Some bloggers said she would be lucky to garner 20 votes. Others said anything over 0.5% should be considered good; which is probably the most valid historic measure of any. Ms. Stacy received 8.0% and 433 votes. The write-in candidate in Senate District #3 (Kaarl Brandon) who ran an active campaign, received 0.7% and 66 votes.

Our take on the Stacy result is that it reflects a “protest” of continued voter dissatisfaction with the quality of candidates and/or the election process itself.

What do the election results tell you? Let us know.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Final Election results indicate Nancy Stacy's vote count was smaller than originally reported. Here is what the Election Office had to say: 433 (8.0%) voters chose "write-in" on their ballots, and of those 149 (2.8%) wrote in Stacy's name. Other entries included "none of the above" and "any Democrat," the elections office reported.

Way to go NANCY!

You didn't have to do a thing and made the Doughboy look bad. Think if some folks had actually put some money behind you. You have the most productive campaign, dollar for dollar, I've seen in 45 years!

Why did it make him look bad? He won. Now let's see if all you Kelly Bashers will REALLY support Nancy if she runs for School Board or any other position. First you hate her, then you love her...put your money where your mouth is. I hope she does run. I like her spunk.

The only time I would ever vote for the nutcase is if she ran against Kurt Kelly. Any one else she runs against, FORGET ABOUT IT.

Blogman:

I want to know what was the voter turnout for Kelly's District compared to that for Charlie Dean. Looked to me like a hell of a lot more people were voting in the Dean race, with about the same number of precincts. Can you let us know? Could it be that Kelly had only a 4%--5% turnout?

This blog will say very predictable things: Kelly is great; Kelly stinks; Nancy ran a good race; I didn't vote for either; etc. It will be boring and completely useless. I guess that I could make it a little more entertaining with my entries but I don't want to be the whole show here.

There are 7 people in the running for School Board and I don't think we know anything about any of them. It would be great to have a forum where we get some (any) background on the applicants. I would create such a forum myself but 1. I don't know how and 2. this blog already has a following that knows about local folks.

I would ask the blogmaster to do the public service of a school board blog - maybe knowing some more about the applicants would prompt letters to Crist or letters to the Banner or a more informed vote come next November.

The alternative is more sycophants writing yea or nea about Kelly or Stacy - a good homeopathic sleep aid I admit but not interesting bloggery.

It was Governor Crist's great endorsement of Kurt Kelly on Saturday at Veterans Park that pulled this out. Kurt, you should thank the Governor for that long list of nice things he said about you. It was also nice that he let you sit right next to him on the front row and ride on the golf cart with him, Dean and Cretul for the tour of the Park. And letting you ride with Charlie Dean and him to Inverness must have been a highlight of your campaign.

Wait a minute, someone just sent me an e-mail and said all those events never happened. I'm shocked!

P.S.:

Dee Brown has to have made a major mistake. The website shows Charlie Dean getting 7200 votes and Kurt Kelly only 4960.

This just can't be correct. I think Dee has missed counting a large number of Kurt's votes. Or did many people just not vote for Kurt, but did for Charlie? Seems to me Dean's potential voters are a lot less than Kellys. Kurt, I say ask for a recount!

My conclusion: the local Democrats had better bury the body it's starting to stink up the local political environment!

Even Barbara Fitos was elected by Republicans who were upset with Randy Harris. No one was voting for her, they were voting against Harris. Just like many people did in their vote for Stacy over Kelly.

The Democrat Party is nothing but a bunch of dead fish floating in the water. Cry and moan about Stacy all you want, but the Republicans are totally in control for many years to come in Marion County. It's all about leadership and committment and the Democrats have neither.

Now off to work at the grocery store.

Here is the original version of a press release sent out by Republican State Party Jim Greer. I guess they just cookie cutter the press releases and let 'em fly. They didn't even know who was running (won) in Marion County to replace Baxley! They did recover and retracted the release in a few hours after its release.

"Republican Kevin Knight of Ocala will replace Rep. Dennis Baxley in House District 24 seat, GOP officials announced tonight. GOP chairman Jim Greer released this statement: “Once again, voters in House District 24 elected a leader with staunch conservative values..."

My first visit back since I dropped out following personal attacks which all "activists" to include our Founding Fathers faced so I have been in great company with all those before me who have been attacked. That makes me a proud American. Well, this party is over for now and unlike you fools on this blog....I offered publicly in the newspaper AND on TV 20 to take a lie detector test.
None of you have done the same so therefore only I proudly speak truth. So, the TRUTH is that this blog is not representative of those who want TRUTH to prevail in America but want rumors and inuindo to be the norm. I have nothing in common with you lying fools and I'm convinced that what is going on here with Kurt is that "Goodness is such a threat to those at the opposite end of the spectrum" Kurt Kelly and Damon Baxley both are truly Godly men and for that they will always be rediculed just as those were who fled England to serve God without judgement of others. Those two men are likewise in good company as is Dennis Baxley who's ideas WILL return to Tallahassee I HOPE and PRAY. Until then though.....I wish you miserable souls some form of happiness some day because you sure don't have it now. Difference is that I DO and I also speak TRUTH so therefore very few of you will ever be able to relate to me. Regarding "disinfranchising"???? How can you disinfranchise a group who has no franchise???? Now as NANCY STACY says "Thats a fact".
No "tee hee" because I am not about "gloating"....but about honesty, integry and preserving the American dream. I do not support "welfare" as some on this blog have admitted to taking but calling it "insurance"??? So, since I don't believe in welfare I don't believe in one political party sucking off the other because they are lazy. Therefore....I will return as a write-in someday again if need be and I reiterate....."That's a fact".

Nancy Stacy spent $6.72 during her campaign. Based on the votes she received, if she had spent $76.90 she could well have beaten Kelly!

Nancy, Nancy couldn’t you have come up with a few more dollars? I would have given you $75 if I had known how well you were going to do.

I bet Kelly spent nearly $40 PER VOTE he received. And he was just elected as a fiscal conservative. Hold your wallets folks when he hits the big city of politicians!

Thanks Nancy again for your words of wisdom. You are not politically homeless and that’s why you are not happy with a blog where your one-dimensional thinking can not dominate. I believe you could make a contribution to the blog. However, you need to accept the fact that not everyone in lockstep agrees with you all the time on the comments you make.

It’s probably better if you just interact with only those who think exactly like you. You will be a much, much happier individual. What’s the old saying, “birds of a feather flock together”.

I hope you get another chance to “run” against Kurt. I look forward to pumping some money into a 527 to get you elected. Frankly, personality aside, I’d rather have you in Tallahassee than Kurt. We know where you are coming from---Kurt has no direction and is only for Kurt; as we will all soon see.

God bless you.

Like I stated in a previous post - none of you put your money where your mouths were. Not one of you did anything to get her elected except vote against Mr. Kelly (which did not work). What a bunch of hypocrites! All you could do was bad mouth her and name call, then you decide to vote for her. Go ahead and tell her that you will support her if she runs for any other office. Won't happen because you just tried to use her for your game (which didn't work). I on the other hand, will be glad to support her if she decides to run. You tell it like it is Nancy! Please run for school board!

At 10:54 AM, June 27, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The game did work! The voters signaled their dissatisfaction with Kelly. They used her the same way Kelly used her. If she doesn't mind being the tool of people to do their dirty work, then so be it.

I would never vote for her for anything except in protest of using the write in for what it was not intended to be used for or if she is up against Kelly.

If someone wants to prostitute their integrity for a political party, then go to it. Frankly, it shows how low class politics is becoming and why so many very good people won't run for office; leaving us with the misfits of politics.

Have a good day.

ideologue : an impractical idealist or an advocate or adherent of a particular idealogy. [Websters New Collegiate Dictionary]

As long as the local Republican party is controlled by idealogues [ I prefer the word zeolots ] , which practice slash and burn politics that ignore the Christian principals their leaders espouse, Marion County is going to be in the dark ages politically.

" Fruits and Nuts " and the many other slurs that appeared on this blog by Nancy Stacey and other nameless cowards is a new low. There is no high road, none at all. Sadly, they are getting away with it.

Would I put up or raise the money needed to put credible candidates on the ballot to see them mauled and bludgeoned ? Absolutely not, nobody else will either.

The 433 write-in votes currently being reported by the Marion County Supervisor of Elections reflect the number of ballots on which the voter filled in the write-in oval and do not reflect examination of the ballot to see if the write-in is for Stacy, who is the only qualified write-in candidate in the District 24 State House race. The government has not yet released a certified total for Stacy.

I suspect many of the 433 votes are for Stacy, but I’m going to reserve comment until the results are certified.

Voice – jeff gann won because the gop rec went after townley over the comp plan and property taxes. Jeff gann lost for tax collector because the gop rec didn’t like his tax record, and mac olson was a fixture that everyone liked.
Norm perry lost because he was such an ass during his four years, and randy harris was such a good looking young guy with a beautiful young wife and two beautiful daughters. Harris never expanded his base and lost cause too many of the base left as people will do and the vote was predictable.
Townley lost because of his votes on the comp plan and taxes, came back and won two more times cause he was a decent guy. He lost cause he was smeared over the lib book.

Now, the brisco bros and that ass humperdink, that’s a topic worth discussin. Great malenko, gentleman saul winderhoffman mountain dean, randy savage, gordon solie “I’m non-plused” now tyhose are names worth a blog.

I would like some good analysis on why Dr. Nandkumar Karve lost. Was there a write-in candidate? OR was it that the voters don't want a surgeon whose name sounds like "carving." What about that oral surgeon in town named Slaughter or the dentist named Dr. Fang - could those guys win an election?

I don't think that your Saul Witterwussen would touch the Brisco Brothers or The Blacktop Bully with a 29-5/8" pole. Sir Oliver Humperdink would keep Witterwussen away from those guys.

Good point about the 433 not being a final number. We know an elderly couple who voted for Stacy but only marked in the write-in bubble and did not write in her name. I'm sure they will find a few of these. However, it's still clear to me that an above average % of voters were not happy with the conduct of the House election. Whether it's 5% or 8%, the protest was there.

Stacy did not get as many votes as originally thought. Here is what the Election Office says:

Only 433 voters chose "write-in" on their ballots, and of those only 149 wrote in Stacy's name.

Other entries included "none of the above" and "any Democrat," the elections office reported.

Total write-ins remained at 8.0% indicating they did not want to vote for Kelly.

Kelly got about 5,000 votes this time around (I think). During the primary, Kelly and Baxley split that vote with Kelly each getting about 2,500 or so. Kelly won over Baxley by 100 or so more votes. Shaw got over 600 votes. How did Shaw affect the race? Who did he "take" votes from - Kelly or Baxley? Without Shaw, would the race have been different?

That's the thing about these political seats these days too, it seems like a catch-all job for people who want a promotion from whatever else they are doing. I see that that Gator kicker Judd Davis has his hat in then School Board appointment - I wonder if he really has the qualifications to serve the taxpayers or does he miss the limelight?

Education has become such a hoot and honestly everyone knows there is no hope for public education. That is why home schooling is the fastest growing education fad EVER in the history of our country. During the GOP primary (hoot that NY times Joe calls it a GOP primary and that I disenfranchised those not in the GOP from voting). LOL!!! God knows they are stupid!! If it is a GOP primary then why would they want to vote?? Have they every thought of a Democrat primary?? Ugh...I feel so victimized being around such clowns. Ugh.... Anyway, when I was explaining to people about the 4 candidates in the "GOP" primary I always shared with my friends I was for Damon or Kurt because I believed they were true Christian concervatives. Friends would ask about D. Baxley's job and I would say law enforcement. When I told them Kurt was on the school board 100% of the time people broke out in laughter???? I began asking why and was told "the schools are a joke and school boards got them that way". Ummm.....do you guys/gals realize that Kurt is the ONLY "schoolbd member" that I know of who has gone on to bigger things here in Marion County?? I know the lady up in Lake County did but she knew a lot of people to help her. The school bd historically is a dead-end spot for politicos and Kurt was the exception. Look at Leslie Scales? She is a very nice lady BUT her resume as a school bd member killed her politically many people believed because school boards are failing our next generation and everyone knows it. If I was a school bd member I would be embarrassed to admit it so no that is the LAST thing I will be running for. The hoot is that when my husband ran last time I didn't even attend the first speaking engagement and goodness there must have been 50. Why?? Because I thought being on the schoolbd was about the dumbest thing he could want to do and obvoiusly the voters agreed. LOL He won over the other 2 men but the ladies got him good thank goodness. Course one was head of the Education Foundation and very well known and the other one was a great great teacher and GOOD teachers that everyone knows and loves always win schoolbd seats. Rightfully so. The only time Steve Herring ran against a white teacher he was creamed also but unfortunately for the black community the next 2 minority candidates lost as Steve never had a white opponent again. However, had the last minority opponent spent the same amount of money Herring spent she would have unseated him and she was a huge unknown here. Ron Crawford has done some good things for kids I will never forget and when Hering is gone (all the dumb questions he asks waste board time) Ron will be a better schoolbd member I predict.

The skool bd didn't shut anyone out of TV time? They still have public input as legally they have to. The only reason I quit going to SKOOL Bd meetings was because my kids has graduated or were well on their way to doing so you silly fool. My daughter attended the college her senior year and only one class at Forest so I had no reason to fight for education any longer. Hopefully my grandchildren will be homeschooled when they come along some day or of course Trinity Catholic school where Rocky volunteer coaches football. Oh, regarding my husband running for SKOOL BD......I couldn't afford for him to do that and we almost divorced over the stupid idea. Don't you recall that I refused to cooperate with fundraisers everyone wanted to give him??? Where were you?? I would have had to sell my barn full of horses had he been elected so believe me I did what I could to insure he lost. LOL I figured if he didn't collect money he couldn't do much campaigning because I set a limit for the famiy checkbook to donate. Everyone knew I was opposed and refused to even go to a single speaking engagement over that year. Rocky built 75 projects last year and had he been on the SKOOL BD he couldn't have. Do you have any idea how much money that would have cost our family???????
A LOT!!!! Try 600,000 dollars profit. Now do you understand my opposition to that SKOOL BD nonsense??? Would you have been for your spouse losing that kind of money for a system that is totally unfixable and hopeless???

Hello Nancy(aka Cybil)

Once again I would like to remind you that I only have ONE personality, not three like some on this blog. If I have something to say to you or anyone else I will use my name not some aka. Please don't forget to take your meds before bed. Good Night

this garbage about nancee not wanting her husband on skool bored. first time he ran she campaigned for him on skool bored tv time, hence they shut it off to publik input. rockie deserves better than having anyone "puting a limit on the family checkbook." this post shows first she lies, second, she doesn't believe all that crap about the man being hed of household, and third she never cared about education else she wouldnt have quit trying to improve school just because her kid got out of skool. and i aint bobby d. i'm much better looking.
