Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

Open Thread: Other Issues?

We are opening this new thread in case you want to have a discussion on something other than the recent School Board election results, or issues already covered on other threads of the Blog.

Let’s hear from you. What’s on your mind?

Also, if you haven't voted in our straw poll, we added a permanent link for your convenience. Go to the Links section on the main page of the Blog and click on: Vote: Current "Straw Poll". We will use this link to create more polls on current issues in the future.

Good article about Chatmire in today's paper...check it out. Not much can be done about it though. As Payton says, people have to help themselves.

I read the article. So why isn’t the AA community coming to the front on helping out the folks in Chatmire? Could it be they have also “given up” on making any progress over there?

If you think all this high-tech electronic voting is fool proof, then check out the study in the link below:

Scary!

The Princeton Study is concerning. Wait until the Democrats start bitching about this.

It looks like the Star Banner has again given us a rather one sided story. That “fine gentlemen” in Chatmire whose “dire situation” was reported on last week is not what he seems.

He seems to have created more of his own problems than the article gave him credit for. I guess we all need to be cautious in believing what we read in the local newspaper.

The guy has a criminal record a mile long. Why wasn't that mentioned?

The paper did a little backtracking today on the guy in Chatmire.

How do I see the straw poll results after I have voted and want to see how the numbers look?

Agent, you are so correct about the local Dems. They just want to put their names on the ballot and hope people will vote for them without doing anything. Young James Walker seems to be one of the few exceptions and he is a convert from the Rep. side.

This Pastor has guts!

Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in
Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says,
'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done.
We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called
it building self esteem.
We have abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it
ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography
and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our
forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse
us from every sin and set us free. Amen!"

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively.

The Star-Banner has started several Blogs. Check it out. I find them too cluttered, not in touch with local interests and the site is too complicated. Of course that is just my opinion. Remember I no longer work there.

I agree with you. Too much detail in the Banner blogs for an old lady like me.

I understand there’s a new blog or website on the local scene. It is called “The Banner Sucks” or something like that. I have searched and searched but can’t find it. A good friend told me she had heard about it and it was started by a former employee of the newspaper. It exposes some revealing tidbits about the personal lives of some of the high profile people at the Star Banner and encourages people not to do business with those who advertise in the paper. The blog gives details on who is advertising and how much they spend. Anyone know anything about it?

We have done some research trying to locate a blog/web site called “The Banner Sucks”. We were unsuccessful. Doubt there is such a blog or web site. However, many people don’t register blogs, so it could exist but has not yet gotten any “traction”.

The purpose of the blog presented is interesting, and we would be willing to extend the Links section of our PH Blog to the blog’s creator to expand its coverage. Let us know who/where you are.
