Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

Local Elections: Complete Our Straw Poll

We are giving our bloggers an opportunity to participate in a "straw poll" for three elected offices that will be decided on September 5, 2006. The three are:

1. School Board-District 4
2. School Board-District 5
3. County Court Judge-2

Please click on the link below and register your vote for each of the above:

http://www.insitefulsurveys.com/Survey.asp?SI=427524611885

If we have success with this polling, we will do the same for those offices being contested in the November General Election.

Happy Voting!!!!

Already someone can't stand the polling results and has managed to manipulate them.

We'll work on putting a stop to that.

We know who you are and are very disappointed in you!!

I'll be interested in getting to see how people vote. If it's like our regular elections, there probably will be low turnout.

well he'll probably do it the same way any other board member who actually has a REAL job does. This argument is nonsense and is coming from a very vunerable incumbent.

what would be of great interest to this blog would be for 200 Blogger to tell us why Crawford is the right candidate instead of asking these inane rhetorical questions. Why is Thurow not the candiadte?

Since no Parnell Townley to vote for, I went with my two other favorites Crawford and Mosley. Flipped a coin on the judge race and Landt won.

Saw that Alvarez thinks the solution to managing growth of new local schools is to work closer with Tallahassee. Good luck on that!! Doubt he will be much of an effective board member with that philosophy. Must "work with" Tallahassee but that isn't the solution---give me good old fashioned local solutions.

Kurt was so Jealous of Mosley he would have recruited Catholic Monkey if he thought he could have taught him to talk!
When will people stop being naive?
People are coming out of the woodwork that Kurt tried to get to run against Mosley ie: Pat Santospirtio from Ocala Palms, Pat Gabrial of the 200 coalition, Lori Hamilton but Alvarez was the only one Pompous enough to beleive that Kurt was a King Maker!
It's funny after reading the OSB yesterday it seems Kurt has only created a clone of himself, another fine example of why cloning is unacceptable behavior!

Hustling? thats why we should vote for him? Did't he hustle 2 years ago for county commission? Now he is hustling for schoolboard?

Give me a little more than he is a hustler!

At 11:43 AM, August 04, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well let's see. Thurow is actually very interested in public service and is not afraid to work hard to earn a vote. He does not need the income from the job, he only seeks to make the schools a better place. The incumbent isn't doing anything, he expects your vote.
The incumbent has left over $100 million on the table for schools since he was elected. What else wrong could he possibly do?

From a previous post:

Moms posting is eloquent and right on target. My own 10 year old son has never once came home asking for a classroom “upgrade” or a new coat of paint for the restroom at his school. He asks for nice books for the school library, better hot dogs for lunch and a new set of markers for his teachers whiteboard. If my sons bedroom is any indication of preferences the existing schools actually look pretty good!

My son has asked me on numerous occasions, “Dad could you buy a telescope or maybe a computer for my science class, we don’t have this stuff.” I’m sure many of you have heard this same line of questioning. The point is that kids want to learn, they have deep desire to explore and create, unfortunately the resources are not always available. In many cases the resource is available it is more a matter of delivery to the students classroom. The school system needs dedicated leadership to adequately provide these opportunities and resources for our children. Our school system demands leadership who is keenly aware of what is needed in today’s learning environment.

In my opinion there are two distinct and completely separate issues for our school board members to embrace and execute. The first being the absolute commitment to providing a quality and challenging education for our children. This is job one. My philosophy is that the educators are the trained professionals and we must allow them to lead the way in instructing our children. The board is the support mechanism that should weigh the needs, costs and expectations and provide written policy for the administration to execute. We should then get out of the way and let the teachers teach.

Second is the physical plant and administration. This is more of the shadow of the teaching process. This is where the board should provide the educators with the needed resources for a superior educational experience. Fancy schools? No.
Buildings that are comfortable, cost effective and easily maintained. Maintenance seemingly always left out of the equation. The board must provide a high level of policy guidance here in order to deliver the product that is required. Not the product that some vendor or architect wants us to have. Fiscal oversight and restraint are the tools necessary for the sensible operation of the school system. Once again however the board must , after setting policy, get out of the way of administration and let them do their job. Meddling simply complicates the entire process.

The practice of public civility is paramount. The boards desire to place the needs of the community above their own political and personal agendas is the final component for a cohesive, energized and effective school board.

After all this isn’t about us, it’s about our children.

I'm sure the Blog Master will zip me for this but to vote over and over all you have to do is disable cookies or delete them. This vote means nada. Should've done it by your IP address, not completely perfect but better.

At 7:23 PM, August 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You think Crawford, who just barely won the last time, has the clout to win this thing outright in a threeway race? I'm not convinced.

Two Republicans versus a Libertarian; a year when you will have a definite turn out against incumbents; Romanski, who isn't very high profile, but who did teach most of the adult population of north Marion County; and a candidate in Thurow who seems to want this thing more than the other two (even if he won't go on Bobby D). I don't see anyone getting a majority in the primary.

I agree. I really didn't know about this Thurow guy until I came back from woking in Alabama. Cripes, his signs are evrywhere and I saw him out waving on SR 200. I also already got a mailer. Give him credit for working his tail off to get elected.

Ocalaslim,

Don’t worry, we addressed the multiple vote issue when we first started the poll. We get the IP addresses on a vote tally list generated at the Survey Website. We go through them and delete multiple votes every couple of days.

The vote is likely a pretty fair reflection of the sentiments of our bloggers.

Thanks for your concern. Glad to have you start blogging with us.

PS: Ocalaslim

We use good judgement in our review (deletion) of IP based multiple votes. Most are pretty obvious.

Four years ago Ron Crawford was opposed by Jeff Carr, Jeff was an Asst. Principal a Democrat a veteren and endorsed heavily by every union in town and a really nice guy. The only problem Jeff had was that he was subservient to his wife who would not allow him to spend any money on his campaign!
And Ron still beat him! I think thurow needs to not rest so easy because he doesn't seem to have as much going for him a Jeff Carr did!

Mosley's the one who got the original complaint. The man would not tell her what the kids did but insisted she obtain a police report. Now, since she was the one who brought the report to Yancey, Kurt Kelly is blaming her for all of this. I ask you, who made the initial mistake by testifying on behalf of these criminals. Mosley or Kelly? Mosley went nuts when she found out about the gun on campus that Kelly covered up...OOPS, I mean didn't know about!
Sue had better watch her back. What will Kelly do to her next??!!

At 2:46 PM, August 07, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kelly is very good at blaming others for his antics. The whole attack on Sue is nothing more than a "red herring."

He is using the technicality defense, "oh I shouldnt have testified, well it's not my fault, Sue shouldn't have brought this forward."

I used to think Kurt did this kind of thing on purpose, now I'm convinced he is just plain stupid.

I've come to realize that perhaps the most important elections, the ones that have the greatest potential impact on our day to day lives, are the judicial races.

I spent the evening at the African American Council candidate forum. Unfortunately, after listening to all these candidates, with few exceptions I really don't have a clue whom to vote for.

Landt v. Ritterhoff - I got nothing here. I hear good and bad on both of them. They're both great, they're both horrible. They're both qualified. They're both completely wrong for the job. I'm gonna keep watching this one.

Morley v. Wynn - Both seem like good people. Both seem qualified. Hmmm.

Scott v. Hyslop v. Hawkins - Wasn't impressed with Scott, but will his lack of speaking ability make him a bad judge? He's got a bajillion dollars and probably already has this won. Hyslop's already a county judge, therefore seemingly qualified, but he's from Brooksville and I have no idea if he's any good. Hawkins didn't have the experience of Hyslop, but she's a real life person with a great story.

Takac v. Gourley - Mike Takac is a genuinely good guy - at least that's the impression he leaves. Gourley's my stereotypical lawyer, but maybe that makes a decent judge. What to do?

Ask all the people who have been in front of Carven Angel with a slam dunk case and walked away losers scratching their heads. They'll tell you how important these races are.

LET'S PUT SOME THOUGHT INTO THIS!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!

I agree, we really don't hear much about the judges. Maybe the blogman could find out more for us.

Ritterhoff v Landt
I was torn until I saw them speak.
Ritterhoff talked her way right out of my vote, she has a Know-it-all attitude and can do no wrong(similar to Kurt Kelly)! She is also extremely obnoxious! Landt all though equally as arrogant is a bit more humble and will ask for your vote unlike Sarah who finished up with "So vote for me"...

Gotta give it to Takac he is determined and really wants it! He deserves it!

Bill Thompson's article this morning "Tossing the bums out only to get fresh bums" about Elizabeth Doran's run for Congress pretty much summed up everything wrong with the Republican party these days.

Not that Keller or any of the Dems in that race have anything better to offer.

At 5:22 PM, August 13, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Talk to people who have been in court with Tacak. He lost one case because he would not keep his mouth shut. By the way, he also lost to Carven Angel. I will; take Carven over Tacak anyday. Take another look at Gourley as an alternative.

In Re: Kelly etc:

"He is using the technicality defense, "oh I shouldnt have testified, well it's not my fault, Sue shouldn't have brought this forward."

My understanding from inside school headquarters is the probation officer brought it forward outraged at Kelly's interference, and called to get a spot on the agenda.

And I for one want to know what is happening in the schools. Remember Colombine? A loaded gun in the locker room, and Kurt is not worried and says Sue shouldn't have brought it forward? Probably no "safe" on the gun, so it drops and goes off and someone gets hurt. Would Kurt have gone to court for them then? And when has he said "I shouldn't have testified . . ."? All I have heard is I am a pastor first (pardon, I have to throw up).

And what about the others who testified it was okay for them to come back to school? How about their judgement. Read the OSB today: Bobby Bowden tells it right: there is more to life than football, and sincere faith starts in the heart. --pwf
