Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

New Thread: School Board Elections (Continued)

{NOTE: This thread of the blog is full. You can continue to review the comments made to date. However, to add your comments or start discussion on a new topic or issue, please scroll up to: "ELECTION CENTRAL: Comments On All Elections" (August 23).}

The thread below “It’s Official: Townley vs. Kelly” is getting very long (200+ comments). So we are opening a new thread to continue discussion and comments about the elections for County School Board. Please use this thread for future comments about the general topic of School Board elections. We are closing the original thread.

To get up to date on the School Board elections discussion, scroll down and review the thread Townley vs. Kelly.

Also, if you are interested in commenting on any of the current issues in our School System, use this thread. Some of you have e-mailed asking us to provide space to comment on the “shenanigans” that seem to be going on with certain School Board members exerting their influence to “protect” students/athletes involved in law and order discretions. There may be other education issues with impact on the elections.

Don’t forget to vote in our “School Board Straw Poll” on the thread just below this one. We will give you an update on how the voting stands on August 5. Voting will continue through September 3.

I see on the other section that Mr. Kelly is up to it again with his protective services. Anyone know the background of the athletes parents?

alright kids, here we go again.....

On July 21, 2006 three Forest High School Football Players, and former football players for Kurt Kelly, committed an Armed Robbery near the Mall. Two citizens were walking down the road when a car pulled up to them with lights off, two of the players got out of the passenger side of the car, the other player was driving, both of the players who got out of the car were armed with handguns, one with a .357 magnum and one with a bb pistol.

The two victims were robbed. The two players got back into the car and the car took off.

All three kids were arrested a short time later by the OPD and put in detention. All three confessed.

Are you wondering how they got the gun? well another football player brought the gun to football practice at Forest High School and gave it to them.

So the kids are in detention until yesterday, when our good friend Kurt goes before the judge and pleads with the judge to let these "good kids" go. The State Attorney and the DJJ both objected to the thugs being released. Well as a result of Kurt's words, the judge released the kids.

Does this bother any of you?

Another example of athletes getting away with a violent felony. Does anyone care about the victims of the crime. Were these kids just having "good clean fun?"

Oh my god someone needs to impeach this guy since no one is running against him. Where is the Star Banner?

I agree with lost our way, Kurt needs to be stoped If someone had done this to a member of his family he would be outraged. But, for some reason he is never concerned for the victim! I have to ask the Good Christian man that he is, did he race over and pray with the two young men who were just walking home with their groceries? I would imagine they were scared to death! And happy to be alive!

At the request of other bloggers, I am posting to this thread what I posted on the other thread . . .

Well, now children, class will come to order pleeeeeze!

Surprised? Well, yes, even old cynical pwf who has watched power corrupt for these past 50 years in the news gathering and commenting business, but I must admit, this one takes the cake.

Let's see if I get all of the story before I form an opinion: three guys, one of whom is a star player, all over the age of 12 so they may not be able to be called "just good little kids" arrange to have a loaded .357 Magnam brought to the dressing room of Forest High School, where the gun changes hands from the boy who took it from his father to the three who confessed to the robbery.

(Question, what would have happened if, during the gun exchange in the dressing room, Coach Yancey had walked around the corner and there was a scuffle and someone got shot? If you believe there is not a lawyer around the corner waiting for this case, I have a bridge for you.)

They then go out to football practice, and after practice, they leave the campus (a gun on a school campus with a no tolerance policy, where kids get expelled for a pen knife and we have a loaded .357 Magnum???) with the gun and that night and go out an rob somebody.

Question: How much of the facts did Kurt explain to Superintendent Yancey when Kurt told Jim how he (Kurt) was counseling and "mentoring" these fine young men who had made “a mistake.” (A mistake? The Police report details a criminal act, committed with a careful plan to commit and avoid detection!) Answer, probably few of the facts, lots of the emotions. Did Kurt tell Jim about the gun on the school campus? Did Kurt explain the gun was loaded at Forest? Hell no!!! Did he tell him he (Kurt) had appeared before the Judge as a representative of the school system? Where the hell does he get the nerve to continually speak for the school system when there has been no action thus anointing him, or . . . Star Banner take note, has there been a secret agreement among school board members to allow Kurt to speak for them and appear in court to speak for them????

Answer to Star Banner: NOT on your sweet tooty. He is powerrrrrful and he just appears and pontificates.

Folks, this is not an aberration. This is a crisis. I don't have a hoot how good a football player any of these kids are. (Wonder if Kurt would appeared before the Judge and been an official character witness had the kids been three guys from auto mechanics or the culinary program????) The Police report says they had a loaded gun on a school campus. The report says they robbed someone at gun point with full knowledge what they were doing was wrong, else they would not have hidden their faces. They willingly admitted their guilt and three of them rolled on their buddy to explain how they got the gun. If someone had been injured, would the parents of the one with the gun been arrested for allowing his son to have access to a loaded gun? If someone had been injured at Forest, would a law suit have been brought against our school system?

Come on Kurt, what the hell were you thinking. You might want to go back to the pulpit of First Baptist and have Dr. Johnson unfrock his inappropriate endorsement and begin prayers for healing of power going to one's head.

In my day, ancient as it is, Star Banner, the Tampa Tribune, the Florida Times Union, WTMC, WOCA, WMOP and I – the news media in those days -- would have been in that courtroom covering this hearing. What, you are telling me the Banner didn’t know about it? Impossible!!! The ripple through Ocala about the star athletes being arrested for armed robbery surely was heard by someone – anyone -- at the Banner, or is this a failure in government in the sunshine, and will the state attorney now be asked to investigate the court system ands the school system for not telling the Banner of the court hearing. Don’t tell me there isn’t sufficient staff at the Banner; there is plenty of staff if they would work at doing reporting instead of looking for a BBIGGGG story for their files.

Any way,

1. Bill O’Reilly needs to hear about this case. Maybe he will be able to talk to Kurt about his wanting to allow kids to have sex in class rooms, to spray paint schools, and getting sports stars back to practice, while costing us thousands by going after Steve Herring. Bill might even want to talk to a Judge who ignores the please of law enforcement and listens instead to Kurt’s stirring, Bible filled sermon.

2. The Banner front page tomorrow can start to do its job by explaining in detail how a school board member became the spokesman for the school system in a courtroom.

3. The principal at Forest should today announce an immediate suspension from all school activities of these adults still enrolled at Forest, and that expulsion will be recommended to the superintendent.

4. The Superintendent should announce today he has received the principal’s recommendation, and will forward it to the school board with his recommendation they be expelled immediately.

5. The School Board should adopt a policy that no employee of the school system will be a character witness for anyone charges with a felony without the knowledge of the Superintendent, and that no school board member will speak for the system without a vote of the board.

6. If there is an ounce of sincerity in his body, Mr. Kelly should resign today. That is what an adult faced with the facts would do.

Class dismissed!

One more thing folks:
We owe a great debt of gratitude to the Probation Officer who had the courage to stand up and let us know that a power hungry politican had stepped over the line again. I hope OPD will issue a full and complete report on this, and I hope the Star Banner will hold the judge accountable.

To the probation officer: I would like to shake your hand. You, sir, are a real public servant.

How could the newspaper miss the story? They have covered other gun related arrests of teenagers in the past. Could it be that the student athletes involved don’t live in a trailer park? Just wondering.

I think the answer may be that, unfortunately, the Banner does not cover court activities such as hearings like the one this week where Kurt gave his professional opinion.

Instead of being in the courtroom for events like this, they instead play catch up when a problem develops.

Kurt's expertise to testify in this case is that he is a
former Yellow Page book advertising salesman, a direct mail coupon book salesman, and now a background investigator-- nothing to qualify him to have any say that these young men should be released from confinement.

What makes it worse is the only reason it happened is they are good football players. Do you believe he would have gone to bat for them if they were cooks in the culinary program, or auto mechanics in that class?

Meanwhile, the professionals we hire to advise the Judge on whether it is safe to release them from confinement, the state attorney with experience in these cases, and the law enforcement people are over ruled by a politician and a football coach.

Give me a break!

Headline: “Confessed Felons Allowed Release So They Don’t Miss Football Practice!”

What is wrong with this picture? Why is the school board member who went “to bat” for these felons allowed to prevail over evidence and the wishes of law enforcement?

Seems as if the judge and school board member need to be removed from office!

pwf certainly made many valid points. Now what? First, the "children", yes they should be expelled. Don't care if they are star players. Second, Mr. Kelly needs to answer to Jim Yancey and the board. Third, the State Attorney's office should look into any improprieties between the judge and Mr. Kelly. And last, but certainly not least, the general counsel for the Education Commissioner in Tallahassee is very interested in this case. Good luck squeezing out of this Mr. Kelly. Don't taint our school board. Just do the right thing, for once, resign! Hopefully, the Star Banner will step up to the plate and publish this outrageous injustice. Just thank God that no one was hurt or killed.

I understand that Mr. Kelly claims he was in no way speaking on behalf of the school system. He was there as a friend of the boys and in no official capacity. If that is so, then what is the problem?

At 9:46 PM, August 03, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

to anonymous, If Mr. Kelly was there as a citizen and not representing the school board, there is still a problem. He represents the board in all of his actions, so taking this stance for the men (yes, men) who obtained a gun from a public school, robbing people and then confessing is outrageous. By the way, Congressman Stearns is now aware of out bad egg. These students should be expelled and Mr. Kelly held accountable. He is a school board member. He has to be held accountable.

Anonymous who aid:
"I understand that Mr. Kelly claims he was in no way speaking on behalf of the school system. He was there as a friend of the boys and in no official capacity. If that is so, then what is the problem? "

The problem is his judgement, or lack thereof. If he was there as a school board member (and, seriously, do you think a "successful" businessman would suddenly appear in a courtroom to be a character witness for football players?" it would at least explain how he would know some of the facts.

If he was just a citizen, how would he know the facts. OPD says they didn't give him a copy of the police report as a citizen. The copies went to an official representative of the school system who happened to be Sue Mosley after after after the probation officer asked to go on ther agenda to find out what the policy of tew school system really is . . .

Without his courage, we might not have learned of his outrage quite as fast. But I am glad there is someone who will still listen to Kurt and hear his "explanation".

By the way . . . any courage on your part? Sign your name.

well, I am sitting in a state of shock right now after having just read this morning's Star Banner. I've read about the issues of the Forest High students on the blog but after reading the Banner this morning I am almost physically sick. One post on the blog was concerned about Wayne Yancey possibly walking in on the gun transfer in his locker room and being hurt or killed. Now I see that he showed up also as a character witness. Come on Wayne, football is not that important. The safety of yourself, other coaches and especially the other players was in jeapardy. But most appalling is Kurt Kelly. He claims he has the heart of a pastor and father first however, he introduced himself to the court as an elected official. He can state all day long that he wears many hats, we all do, but when you are an elected official and you appear in a court of law or in public period, you should always remember that you are representing the people of the county who originally elected you, sir. He claims to have not known the particulars of the case and went to the hearing because the teens' attorney asked him to. And then in the next breathe he admits that he visited the guys in the detention center. You don't think he knew the facts before or at least after he left!! Kurt your lies are getting twisted. And then to call these thugs, yes they are (they intentionally plotted this: asking for a gun in advance!) thugs, "respectful and natural leaders" !!! Is anyone as outraged as I am? How respectful did they act towards their victims? I hope my kids don't turn out to be the definition of respectful and leaders by Mr. Kelly's definition. Also, if these teens' are what Kelly calls respectful and natural leaders, Marion County should be scared. Teachers and students, you are NOT safe if he continues to be on the board that runs our schools.
Also, of great concern is Judge Davis releasing these "men". I think a judicial review should be in order. He cannot put this off totally on the gun being transferred at Forest. These guys used a gun for armed robbery. What happened to "use a gun, go to jail".

Can we impeach a school board member?

At 12:02 PM, August 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

An elected official using their respective position to further a personal agenda is probably malfeasance in office and grounds for an ethics investigation and possible removal from office. Further and more importantly is this the educational message we want to send to our young citizens that your position gives you special privilege? I hope not! I think Mel Gibson has once again shown the reason for universal public disgust when this type of behavior occurs. I trust Brad King will not be amused with four more years of this type of self-serving action by Kurt Kelly. I'm for a write-in campaign to elect pwf!

At 12:24 PM, August 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, drawman, many are outraged, but many will not step out and say so, fearing the retribution of men who are calling in behalf of Kurt. Ocala has grown in many ways, but there are still people around who try to intimidate others or hurt them financially: I thought I had outgrown that after Marion 10 of the 1975 era when they came after me.

I do not believe the community will stand by and let this one go when it is full known, that a fully loaded gun changed hands in the locker room of a school that is part of a system that has zero tolerance for weapons -- voted on by the same Kurt Kelly.

I understand the Judge made it clear he was releasing them from detention on the say of Kurt and the other two employees of the school system. Nothing shovks me any more, but this not only shocks me, it shows appaling judgement.

To quote him "These men [teens] are respectful and natural leaders." Respectful, natural leaders: with a stolen gun in a locker room, their faces covered, and robbing two guys at gun point?

And he has the nerve to accuse Steve Herring of a conflict of interest, and then go out and recruit people to run against other board members.

Where are you community leaders? This is the time you need to step up to the plate and not stay silent. --pwf

As for Bobby's show, you are right, he has said he pays for his time, but next time you listen, you will find he has more callers than Lund, Harris, and most days than Chip with a bigger draw (Bortz, Limbaugh etc as leadups. And Crawford, Mosley, Kelly, and many other candidates have over the years appeared on his show --some occasionally against my advise at a given time. Calm, my friend.

Anyone goiing to blast Bobby D is is going to be me. While he may not have 20000 or 30000 as he has said (limbaugh tells tales too) he has many, many listeners and as an old radioman, i know. Since he has had state candidates for governor, senate, congress, sheriff, why not a lowly school board member? If you have your story down good, no one, not even a guy from New York (or is it Jersey) can trip you up. Even Kelly has been on his show. So enough with the crap about saying no one comes on. Some of his stuff is interesting. And occasionally he falls into a good story cause people call and tell him. He has been fair to kelly on this one. This is a very legitimate question: Do we want employees of the school system in their official capacity or a school board member id'd by his official title getting armed, masked thugs back on the street perhaps to rob again. And except for this blog, back in school. If I was back in radio I would ask that line of questioning and skip the abortion issue. Everyone wants safe schools and streets. So candidates, line up and give us an answer, or your lack of one is a louder one.

to respond to the person who said no one comes on my show and i pay for my own time. we produce our own show. yes we pay for our time, but if you listen you will hear all the sponsors, thats who pays for the show. for the record, we haven't technically "paid" for the bobby d show in years. as for no guests. also for the record. charlie stone, randy harris, stan mcclain, mike sizemore, denise baxley, ron crawford, sue mosley, judy zanetti, kurt kelly, rocky stacy, johnny byrd, larry klayman, robert douglas, steve henning, daniel owen, michael peruka presidential canidate 2004, mike badnarick presidental canidate 2004, chuck baldwim vice-presidential canidate 2004, and tom gallagher, to name a few. oh and on monday, aug. 6th joan romanski. so if its good enough for them why not thurow and alverez. now you might not agree with my religious beliefs on social issues, which are roman catholic. you might not agree on anything i say but it shouldnt be about me, it should be about the listeners having the ability to truly find out what a politician thinks. and what better way with an open microphone and no call screener. and as far as us "buying our own time", its a lot of money and if we never got one sponsor but offered an open microphone to help educate the citizens on who to vote for, why is that so bad. plus we are the only show that isnt afraid to take on politicians head on. thats because we are self produced. lets get back to the real problem in marion county a run away politician.

Well, I see Kurt's agent, Mr. Alvarez is pulling a typical dirty stunt, trying to blame Sue for voting for Steve Herring to bid, as okayed by the ethics commission, to bid on school doors, etc, and save us money. Alvarez' mailer makes such a charge. This was one of Kurt's ploys, attacking Steve who had clearance from the state to bid, and Kurt had voted on the bids himself. But when he wanted to make an issue, and cause Steve some embarrassment, he complained and talked about being "above reproach..."

As for getting him off the board, he is sort of like Bill Clinton -- he is great to have around cause you know he is going to implode periodically, and it gives us something to talk about.

And remember his moma is digging stuff up for David too.

to mike, pwf and anonymous: After speaking with general counsel in Tallahassee, our only route may be to file a complaint with the ethics comittee. Unfortunately, "stupid" isn't illegal. Even if he were there in official capacity, the judge and state attorney had the jurisdiction to do what they wanted. Not want I wanted to hear either. But the truth is, unless we had a write in candidate our only recourse is possibly and I say possibly with the ethics commission (who I have a contact number for). Maybe my call tonight will get the governor's attention. He (general counsel) was appalled. Couldn't believe a representative of our school board did such a "stupid" thing (his words)
And to adm who knows: people need to know how the bid was handled. Of course, since he (Alvarez) has no other "issues" against Mosley he is using something that is so vague that it has to be addressed.

Ya Know, I have watched Daytona's new Mainland High school get built, and it is beautiful (and grandiose).
I disagree with the concept that we should educate out kids, in minimal schools, replete with portables. If we allow our children to become accustomed to those places, what are they going to strive to acheive? I believe we make ourselves comfortable with our upbringing. If we are raised in welfare projects, arn't we likely to to be happy to live there?

Lets see, if it costs an extra 2 million dollars for a first class school and it lasts 40 years, thats $50,000 a year.

If we pump 2500 kids thru the place, per year, that seems to be $20 a kid, or about a dime a day.

Jeez!

Let the flames begin. (I know this is somewhat OT, but this blog seems to have stalled on the school election. Move on)

hello anonymous: since the stats are coming in and most of your major colleges are batteling it out for the home schooled kids. would you be willing to give home school parents the approx. 10,000.00 a year the goverment pays to educate our kids so they can build bigger homes so the home school kids, which are better educated, can have a nicer home to live in, so they can have something to shoot for. or does a good education really have anything to do with the kind of building a kid learns in. think about the real numbers, 450 million dollar school budget, 43,000 kids. over 10,000.00 per kid. avg family 3 kids, 30,000. per year per family. mother stays home, doesnt have to work, raises and educates her kids, not the state. mother home with kids, better kids (fact), mother homeschools ( better educated kid). sounds like a plan, is public education really in the best interest of our children, doesnt look like it.

I see the kids were officially charged with the crimes yesterday and that Kurt was noticibly absent from the hearing.

Someone needs to formally file a complaint with the Florida Commission on Ethics. With the complaint they will investigate Kurt and his antics. He says that he wears many hats in the community, if that is so, why did he introduce himself as the Vice Chariman of the School Board to the court right before he testified.

Kurt truly believes that he is above the law and rules. I wonder if he had an opponent in the election if he would have gone to bat for the kids.

I know the Govenor has been contacted in reference to this incident, so maybe he will direct some sort of action.

I am sure Kurt reads this blog, I would love for him to make some type of comment concerning this, but we all know how much of a coward he really is.

There is none. An official can be removed only by:
1. Vote of the people.
2. Removal by the governor for malfeasance, misfeasance, nonfeasance etc. Without an uproar from the party (which is toothless) JEB will not do anything. There is little to no liklihood of an ethics complaint on this problem. While it is one of the dumbest stunts I can recall, there is nothing that says an official has to have smarts to serve.

BTW -- was busy last night. What happened if anything at the school board?

What's this about Pastor Ed Johnson giving Kurt the podium at 1st Baptist to misrepresent the role he played in this fiasco?

If these guys had not been football players he would never have stood up for them against standard school policy around the nation.

I heard it was only Sunday School but, if one of the victims had been a member of first Baptist do you think the congregation would still have Kurt on the Prayer Chain?

pwf is correct. "stupid" is hard to put someone out of office. The governor, actually his general counsel, has looked at this and someone, yes someone needs to step up to the plate and report the the ethics committee in Tally. I have the name. If Pastor Ed did not let him in the pulpit, it's only a mattter of time. He has, for a fact, spoken to the Sunday school/small groups. He has led this congretation to believe he did not do anything wrong. That he was only counseling these "boys". He said the "blog" is out to get him. paranoid? sounds like that to me. if no one else steps up to the plate to file a complaint with the ethics commission, I will. Anyone else on my side????

I for one would love to have him explain. Frankly, I admire him for having a heart big enough to go to detention hall and pray for a young man (or men) who, if guilty of what they have been charged with, has (or have)have taken a God given body and God given talent and flushed it down the toilet. If, as has been represented, at least one of these young men had the potential to be a professional athlete, and if, as has been represented, they all are from middle or upper class families and were not wanting for food or other necessities, why, why, why would they plan to get a gun, plan to have ski masks and head across town (since as I understand it, they live in Southeast Ocala) to "scare someone on the west side" or worse to rob someone.

Kurt is to be commended for his pastoral qualities. He is an excellent speaker, knows his scripture, and, as we have all heard at school board meetings, prteaches quite a sermon (too frequently).

That does not excuse or condone his appearance as "Vice Chairman of the School Board" to convince a Judge to go against Juvenile Justice recommendatisons and release these kids. I pray they have learned their lessons and would follow the upbringing that I am sure their parents have imparted to them and never ever do anything again. They still must face judgement for what they are charged with having committed.

But I tell you that Fast Eddie Johnson, who I covered in high school, and took pictures at the community's celebration at the City Auditoriium when Lake Weir (the old school) won the state championship, was not rasised to run up a criminal record as he has for the past two decades. That too is a tragedy.

Thank God no one was hurt in this incident with the three yuoung men, but they have damaged their lives forever. Our school regulations are the law of the schools, and they say no guns, school board members to the contrary. Am I out to get Kurt? Absolutely not. I did not believe him qualified for the position when the Governor appointed him, and predicted he would show it. He has. But he is a member of the school board for another four years.

And when he tries to move on to a higher position to which he feels destined, just remember his lack of judgement.

Now that I’m back in town after some much needed R&R in Boca I find bobbyd is back at his old tricks. Mr. Vatican Bully thinks he has political power in Marion County. he has none. He claims all of these pols have came on his show over the life of his program to spread their word. No they have been bullied.

Mr. Christian himself (Saint BobbyD for you non Catholics) states that he asks the hard questions. What a load of crap. He asks questions that embarrasses the candidates and makes himself look like some kind of hero. He is a two issue simpleton. He’s out to show his small audience what a wonderful human being he is and how he is JC’s main man in Ocala. He’s nothing more than a wanna be priest! He couldn’t do the school work to accomplish that, obviously.

Please bobbyd where are your sermons about the evils of Tom Gallagher and his position on the family when the man has lied over and over about being divorced? How about Randy Harris’ sin of vanity because he wore a wig? Maybe you could discuss the alleged homosexuality of Ron Crawford, you don’t want any homos in our schools do we bobby? Maybe we should stone the peanut farmers to death because they plant a different crop in the same field? Did you and Bill Glass get the thank you card from the author of the Eat Me book? Since you two helped sell more copies of the book than any marketing blitz ever could have, you should take all the credit for the books intense popularity!

This man is fake and a fraud who is only out to fill his tiny ego and I would suggest to any candidate even THINKING about going on his show to reconsider.

I’m eagerly waiting for The D Mans reply.

hello ocalaslim:

boy oh boy, you must be extremely frustrated. i will make you an offer, why dont you come in on the show and express your concerns to the people that listen. as far as bullying people to come on the show, what is that. its an open door policy, if you walk in you can talk if you dont you dont. why a politician wouldnt want to come in is beyond me, but thats their business. if i have an opinion you dont like, thats life. there is obviously more people that like what they hear then you since we continually bring in sponsors. as far as the other stuff you said i dont want to take too much time away from my family but i will try to answer the questions, about being a priest. i never really thought about being a priest, though my son is contemplating being a legionere priest. as far as a fake and fraud, what have i ever professed to do or be that would make me a fraud. i talk about catholic teaching and give my opinion on politics. if that makes me a fraud so be it. but i have never professed to be the best catholic or most knowledgeable about politics. as far as the other things about gallagher, harris and crawford. i really dont know what you are talking about. i do have some issues about gallagher not being married in the catholic church and claiming to be catholic and not raising his kid catholic, which i said on the radio, as far a harris and a wig, whats up with that i dont know. and crawford being gay, thats news to me, it seems like its a political move to try to gain votes for a certain politician but in a small town like macintosh dont you think that if he was gay it would already be out. not being married doesnt mean your gay, it sounds like your a little hypocritical. i think you also mentioned that im a 2 issue person, thanks for putting me in the same category as jesus, "love the lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself", i dont deserve all that praise, but for the record i usually get called a one category person so that is a big improvement. why would you not want politicians to go on public radio and take calls from citizens of the county so they can make a better educated decision. i usually only ask a few questions, one about abortion and the other about gay marriage, other than that i try to let the callers dictate the flow of the show. ask joyce romanski how it was, she was just on for an hour and seemed like she enjoyed it. she actually said thank you for giving her the time. maybe you just dont like me. since you know me and i dont know you why dont we go out to lunch and talk. or like i said before come on the show, its ok, i can take it. but this blog isnt about me and since every time i make a post someone turns it around about me i started my own blog so people that want to bash me can do it without taking away from this blog, i will even read them on the air for you guys. i wont give the address since we are suppose to but i will on the air. also the lunch bunch is back, last weds of the month, ron crawford is the guest, call the station to sign up. peace hope that answers your questions, i aim to please

Since my priest at Grace Episcopal was preaching to me this morning, perhpas I can log on and make a small contribution.

Dear Mr. Ocalaism . . .
I have had more than my share of disagreements with Bobby, but a saint he has never said he was. In fact when I have heard him (not particularly often but occasionally since I do have a life other than messing around with politics and talk radio) he has frequently said he was a, as the late George Younce sang that wonderful classic "I Am A Sinner Saved By Grace."

I too do not like Tom Gallahgher (or Charlie Crist for that matter) so I suggest you look to Rod Smith as a good comprimise. As for your effort to slime Crawford, with whom I have had many disagreements, this sounds like a desperate effort on the part of (or for) another candidate. There are many who marry and are homosexual. Some stay married, some cheat, and some leave and take up with a man, like the Bishop in my church in New Hampshire. But the fact a man is not married does not indicate his preference. I know many who wish they had not married because their lives have been hell under that wedded bliss.
Bobby can be an ass, and so can I. You have just proved you can be one too.

And Bobby, if you read this again between changing diapers, please sign me up for the Lunch Bunch. I am broke and need a free dinner. Maybe Ocalaism can come too -- no, I think I know who it is and would rather not have lunch with him.

AS for the sermon I mentioned at the top, it was about carrying anger for peoeple. The way to get rid of it is forgiveness. That comes hard for me, but I am working at it. Pray for me. I need it. (And I do not intend to become a priest, I am just "A Sinner Saved By Grace." And today, God is being bledded by his wonderful music in heaven! --pwf

I thought the blog had died until today. Where does Ocalaslim get off saying Crawford is a homosexual? Do you have first hand knowledge of this? Or is this just another slander against someone who is doing what they should be doing for Marion County?

Has there been anything else in the paper about the thugs from Forest High? Or has this been shussed? I haven't seen anything. Does Kelly have the power to block the Banner? Maybe with the help of Pastor Ed. or his mamma. it is soooo apparent that he is guiding Alvarez. He is creating his own worse nightmare. Even without an opponent, good luck Kelly because the governor's ethics committee is watching over your shoulder. And to Ocalaslim, again, to say that a man running who is not married, is gay, you are out of control. What if a single woman was running? I guess you would vote for Hillary who is "married" for different reasons.

Funny how things suddenly happen.
Channel 2, which does only limited Marion County coverage, called Sue Mosley late Friday with wonderful news: they had decided to do a five minute “debate” on “hot” school board races in their coverage area, and Sue’s district race would be done at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, and even better news, her opponent had already agreed to come and was looking forward to the debate. Just drive an hour and a half or more in horrible traffic for a couple of 30-45 second answers to questions, and then drive back an hour and a half or more in worse traffic – wonder why they didn’t use their Ocala studio for the “debate”?
Just so happens, Sue’s daughter was scheduled to have her baby (Sue’s first grandchild) on Monday, and she had other meetings scheduled if things worked out with the baby to allow it, so she turned down the “debate.
Let the guy who wants to borrow $100 million without a clue as to how to re-pay the bonds drive down and have his five minutes of Channel 2 camera time. I’m the kind who would rather spend that four hours or more of time it would take to get to Orlando with my grandchildren, and I am Sue will likewise rather spend it with her brand new granddaughter which came premature last night. Ava Grace –named after Sue’s Mother who recently passed away, and is doing well at five pounds three ounces. Ditto for Grandmother and mom.
Interesting that they decided this school board race is so “hot”. I am not sure who made that determination unless it was Kelly who is working so hard with his Mom to take control of the school board with his hand picked student.
Anyway, don’t look for Sue on Channel 2 on their sudden “debate”. She probably will be holding Ava Grace!

So Mr. Alvarez is on the attack today out here on 200. Only problem is his facts are wrong, as usual. His bro-in-law ought to have a better grasp with their buddy kurtie-boy on research. Buy lady she can be, Sue kept her cool instead of just calling him a liar and being done with it. Makes me wish I back in the biz and could moderate such a discussion -- I'd call his hand. Maybe the Banner will. Oh yeah, probably not.

Dave came out fighten, with everyone! He lied about his kids being in private school, he lied and distorted facts to sound knowledgable and when he was asked a question he didn't understand and was re-challendged he accused Sue of putting the man up to the questioning! I have never seen a candidate who is running as scared as he is! My question to Pat G. why wasn't Sue offered a chance to re-butt his bad information? Are you taking sides Pat or just don't want the 200 members to be properly informed? At least Tony Totora and Mike sizemore were able to correct most of Alverezs wrong information...sad when the public is more informed then the candidate!

I can't believe that Alvarez thinks that Mosley has time to "plant" someone to ask him questions that would put him on the spot. Maybe they are just concerned voters!! Between having a grand-daughter early and her work on the school board, does one think she has time for this??!! As far as Channel 2 goes, I am with pwf, they couldn't do this in Marion County? One of the most fair forums I have ever seen is the one Mr. Eugene Poole ran. God bless him. There were no dirty politics involved. He stated this up-front. He should run all forums. So tell us candidates for school board, where will the money come from to finance the construction detailed in the article below from the Star Banner? It seems no one knows--per the article.

Marion County Public Schools unveiled its five-year construction plan on Tuesday, revealing that $140 million in renovations and new schools will be launched this fiscal year.

The plan shows that the school system will need $512 million in the next five years to renovate and build new schools, as well as complete maintenance on existing schools that will need upgrades.

Robert Knight, the school system’s supervisor of facilities, told the board that the 2006-07 projects are fully funded, but the school system will be $217 million short if the state does not issue the district any more capital funds in the next five years.

Knight used all known income sources, from impact fees and sales tax to money that has already been allotted by the state for construction, to formulate the facilities plan.

"This is a start,’’ said Superintendent of Schools Jim Yancey, adding that rapid growth and class-size reduction issues mean the school system will need much more money to build classrooms.

The school system will receive some state funds for construction projects in the future, but how much money will be generated remains unknown. That’s because school districts can only request construction money when a need is shown and that need can’t be based on projected population numbers.

The good news is that dozens of projects will be funded this year, from overhauls of air conditioning systems at some schools to the construction of two new schools in southwest Marion County.

Those new schools, one in Marion Oaks for fourth- through eighth-graders, and a middle school for southwest Marion County, make up nearly half the construction cost -- $66 million – this school year.

The Marion Oaks school will be built next to Sunrise Elementary while the middle school will be go up next to Marion County’s newest school, Hammett Bowen Elementary. Both school are scheduled to open in 2008.

This year’s scheduled major renovations include Vanguard High ($21 million), Oakcrest ($7 million) and the first phase of Lake Weir High ($9 million). In 2007-08, Lake Weir High’s second phase ($11 million) will complete the $20 million facelift.

At 9:29 PM, August 15, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Easy to answer AGK, higher taxes! OK candidates, pray tell, how do we make up the $217 million shortfall?

At 8:05 AM, August 16, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Without intending mush criticism for the facilities people quoted in the article, get real! Yes, there appears to be a shortfall. History shows the biggest portion of the shortfall will come from direct allocations from the state.

The problem is the legislature will NOT leave it's fingers off schools and develop a plan that will last for more than a year or two. In the old days -- yes, another back when I was young comment -- in the good old days when we had the Minimum Foundation Program, schools could pretty well predict into the future: if you had x number of kids, the formula said you will get x dollars. Now, and a part of the problem goes to our friendly GOP legislature, now nobody can plan for much of anything, because they change the way they do things every year or so.

Yes, we are going to need additional funds. No, it is not a crisis (just yet anyway) because there is another change coming from our friendly GOP legislature. One of the next speakers of the house told me they are going to divvy uip the pot on some formula and then say school boards, here is the money and you are now responsible for how and where it is spent.

Just remember one of my axiums -- I probably stole it from someone in those good old days -- government CAN do whatever it WANTS to do, and another, government WILL expand in direct proportion to space and dollars available. I will comment further of Mr. Alkvarez and his pl;an for construction later. Got to earn a dollar now.

The high school class of 2006 nationally posted the biggest score increase on the ACT college entrance exam in 20 years, and recorded the highest scores of any class since 1991, but Florida's results were down.

Average composite scores on the exam, which measures students' readiness for college-level work, rose to 21.1 from 20.9 last year.

Florida's composite scores instead dropped by 0.1 point from 20.5 in 2004 to 20.4 last year. That left Florida tied with Kentucky, Oklahoma and West Virginia in 36th place among the 50 states and District of Columbia.

So what’s the problem here? How about it School Board candidates?

Attorney: Please state your name
Kurt: Kurt Kelly
Attorney:And what do you do
Kurt: Well I own my own business, but I am best known in the community as the Vice Chairman of the Marion County School Board.
Attorney:How long have you been on the School Board
Kurt: Five years, and I have just been reelected for another four years.
Attorney: Do you know ……
Kurt: Yes
Attorney: Do you know ……
Kurt: Yes
Attorney: Do you know ……
Kurt: I think I have seen him
Attorney: How do you know them
Kurt: I coached them in football
Attorney:What kind of kids are they
Kurt: Natural leaders, good kids etc……..

Blah, blah, blah…….. more of the transcript to come.

So how is it that someone who “wears many different hats in the community” didn’t identify himself as a “pastor first” to the Judge? He didn’t even give the name of his company. And I don’t know if Kurt realizes that he was NOT reelected, he was unopposed, a blatant lie to the Judge that, in effect, gave him more credibility.

Where is the “above reproach” stuff he preaches. Boy what a hypocrite. The Ethics Commission is going to have a field day with him…..

As for the transcript . . .

This sort of does not jibe with "well, maybe I shouldn't have appeared" defense he has tried recently.

Frankly, I think I would have tried the a “pastor first” line. My experience is out of town judges would probably be more impressed with a pastor than the "vice chairman" of the school board. Judges and others in public life consider the school board to be the bottom of the barrel of elected officials (sorry Sue, Steve etc) and in my 49 years of this business, this is the first time I have ever, ever heard someone refer to themselves as vice chairman of ANY school board. Quick now, who is vice chaimran of the county commission? Come on, he is well known . . . quick give me the answer. Most people can't even name the Vice President. Probably not 100 people in the whole county could come up with the correct answer without going to look it up including county employees.

So, if I had been the judge, I would have been less inclined than ever to accept anything from someone so engrossed in himself as to call attention he was Vice Chairman . . .

As to the " NOT reelected" argument, pretty slim, even if true. It is like the old days in Marion County when there were no GOP candidates...nomination by the Dems was elewcted in actuality if not fact.

I suspect this transacript has more than enough to argue without such a slim point, even if it is true.

Just remember, when someone has to tell you what a Christian they are, grab for your wallet and wife.

His slimy politics have never been “above reproach” and his effort to embarass Herring will continue to cost us dollars on every job.

Well, so have I. Remember the crisis because the voters turned down the school bond issue six or seven years ago? We have built EVERY school project planned then AND Hammett Bowen.

Remember the crisis when the judges came up and said we need a $45 million addition to the $25 million judicial center and the tales of woe could be heard from Heaven to hell. Guess what? It will be built and most of it from revenue in hand or that will be in hand before the job is finished.

Again, remember Ferguson's Rules, stolen from someone years ago . . . Government can do what it wants to do.

So, no, I am not worried about anything except slowing down the growth somehow.

And on Joyce Urban's letter in the Banner about campaign signs . . . she is a nice lady who does untold good in the community. This time, she is just trying to help the guy she unfortunately chose to support. But destruction of campaign signs has been going on for all of my career. I have known who was doing some of the destruction of my candidate's signs from time to time, but Joyce is too smart to really believe that a Sue who was becoming a Grandma for the first time would even care about her opponent's signs, much less take the time to destroy them. And school board candidates do not have a weork force to go out and erect or tear down signs.

Campaign signs a campaign does not win. Most of the time, the destruction is just some "natural leaders" who are "really good kids" who are out "just having fun" as Kurt and Dave would say--and in fact, it is what they have said about other destruction.

And, Joyce, my experience is that for every sign my guy loses, the same people are out destroying your guy's signs. Many people just don't like signs period. But when you don't have the facts to argue in a campaign, sometimes you use lost leaders like campaign signs.

For us, we are focused on the issues, and just trying to fioght off Kurt's constant involvement.

I have just found out some very importatnt news for our blogger community. pwf or Paul Ferguson is running Sue Moseleys campaign. THIS is why he is sooooo in her corner. It also seems that pwf is enamored by the attention of a younger female. A female that loves to play the "dress to kill" card. If this guy ever had any credibility in this city its now gone. Go read a book pwf

Well *slim, you are wrong again as usual. I am not Sue Mosley's campaign manager. I NEVER in 48 years of being involved in about 175 campaigns, have managed any campaign. Neither have I ever said I was a campaign manager. When you may be involved in four or five campaigns at the sams time, you can not be a manager. I assist, advise, take a candidate's ideas and personality, write ads and print, as you know. Having been married for almost 49 years, and having a wife who has survived cancer who I love more today than I did that wonderful day in 1957, I do not need to admire someone's wife. But as usual, you are wrong. As for dementia, I am astounded you would make an effort to be funny with such a disease you are close to. As for credibility, I will leave that to the community to decide. Credibility and $1.50 buys a cup of coffee. Now, read your book!

Greetings Politically Homeless,
The first rule of clowns is “a knock is a plug”…so thanks for all the plugs! There is so much mis-information by “informed” folks at this site that I hardly know where to begin. Dave Alvarez “is” married to my wife’s sister. My wife, Mary, is his campaign treasurer. That would be the sum total of anything resembling the truth about Dave on this blog. Those who clearly support GranmaMosley are entitled to their opinions, but they aren’t entitled to their own facts. Most of what you have read here is gossip at best and I could post a boatload of gossip about St Sue…salacious to be sure, but really what’s the point. Dave is not my client, nor have I written any speeches for him. He is not a “Hispanic” brought in to pick up the Marion Oaks vote. He is not a rich fat cat who bankrupted a publicly traded company while lining his own pockets. He did not agree to work for Sue’s reelection or run at the behest of Kurt Kelly (I think some of you have come down with KKDS…Kurt Kelly Derangement Syndrome). The Dave I have known for 21 years is a good husband to his wife, a good father to his children and a decent, honest, smart, hardworking guy. If you really care about the race, meet the candidates, ask questions about the issues and decide for yourself.

I was made aware of this blog site this morning. It was brought to my attention because of the statement that Dave Alvarez was originally going to be Sue Mosley's campaign manager. Here's how the scenerio went: We live next door to the Alvarez's on Lake Kerr. Sometime, not sure of the exact date, last fall, I had a couple of different conversations with Dave. Some between he and I and at least one other with our spouses present. He told me that he loved what Sue was doing on the school board. After the first conversation when he told me that, I called Sue and told her that my neighbor at the lake was a huge fan of hers. Before that talk, I didn't even know Dave knew Sue or that he was involved in school board matters. She was thrilled to hear of his support. I even asked him why he didn't run and his reply was that he then couldn't voice his opinions if he had to answer to constituants and that he was in the same district as Sue. The other conversations that ensued led me to ask him that if she were opposed would he be her campaign manager. He told me he would give it great consideration because of his admiration of what she had done thus far. So, even before he filed or we knew he was running, Sue asked me to be her treasurer. I told her, of course, and I told her to call Dave and ask him that if she had an opponent, would he consider being her campaign manager. I believe after the first call he didn't say yes or no, however, after MY insistence she called again and he told her he was running against her. She was devastated to say the least. I was as shocked as she was. So, I am replying to Chip Morris and to "don said" from OTOW, this was not just gossip, these were real conversations between myself and Dave, and the other over coffee with our spouses. I will always be friendly to the Alvarez's, as I have been when seeing them at functions, but this is what happened. The truth. The end. None of this is pertinent to this election, so let the best person win. God bless all of you.

Your narrative simply says that Dave didn't agree to work on Sue's re-election or run at Kurt Kelly's behest...which is what I wrote. I can see why you felt compelled to clear it up. God bless you as well!

Greetings OlderVet

My word against others? I don't expect any extra consideration, but my name got dragged into this forum long before I posted yesterday. Nancy's tortured and creative explanation confirmed what I wrote. I certainly could get into what I heard was the converation between Dave and Sue, but that would be hearsay as well since I wasn't actually listening to it. The point I apparently wasn't able to get accross is there is a lot of anonymous rumor/gossip mongering going on in this forum and I just gave a few examples. I again encourage folks to understand the issues and question the candidates directly about them rather than decide based on hearsay.

Criticism of policy descions by a candidate is not an attack...it is called campaigning on the issues against an incumbant. For example, 4 years ago this board knew it needed at least 6 schools...the voters agreed 2 years ago to the half-cent sales tax initiative for the purchasing of properties and building of schools...has the board bought the property for the schools we needed 4 years ago? Property values have skyrocketed and the inability to make descisions has cost the taxpayer.

You are still undecided? You write that you have researched and proved to yourself that Dave is a liar and has nothing to offer but empty attacks against an otherwise very successful incumbant. What exactly is your dilemma?

When Nancy Brill tried to clear up what you called rumor about Alvarez working on Sue's campaign you called her statement "creative" and "tortured". Sounds like she was just stating her conversations with Alvarez. He may not have agreed to be on Sue's team when Sue called, but in Nancy's statement he seemed to be very impressed with her work on the school board. so what changed his mind?

"what if the school system paid all teachers $65,000.00 across the board and no benefits, none at all, no retirement, no insurance, just sick pay, no paid vacation since they already have 2 months off." not one teacher i have spoken with said they would take that deal. why do you think that is? i find it interesting. i have my theory what is yours.

I have no problem with offering housing subsidies to teachers. However, there are many other low paying occupations here in the county who could also use some housing purchase help. I'm one of them. Teachers are important, so are nurses and others in health care. So where is all the money going to come from to do this? I assume from the already well taxed people like me.

At 10:53 AM, August 20, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"Anonymous" accuses me being jealous and seeking attention. Other posters here have accused me of everything from hacking this sites straw poll to payola so that’s really pretty weak.

First lets clear up all the confusion. Dave Alvarez is my brother-in-law…which of course makes anything I add to this discussion meaningless. I apologize for bringing up the subject of building schools, but it is a subject that really bothers me…personally. I spent the last election being told by every single school board candidate and member of the school board that, if we the voters would only approve another self tax, all of our capital building needs would be met. We all laughed about whether this tax would ever sunset, but the consensus was that they would have this problem behind them and they could concentrate on actually using that brick and mortar more efficiently. They had the plan and all they needed was the funds. Within a few months of the people granting those funds, I started hearing about the explosion of property values and rising costs of concrete…as if that would have been news to anyone paying attention…suddenly the experts who said the ½ cent sales tax was the ticket were saying “Houston, we have a problem”! That was the election of 2004…this is now. We apparently haven’t solved the capital needs problem and CFCC still spends over half its budget on remedial education for high school graduates and dropouts. That is my personal opinion and I am not blaming anyone…we are where we are…which is time for the current crop of candidates to make their cases. That's hard enough as it is without all the rumor mongering and conspiracy theories. The reason I’m sorry I brought it up is that my intention when I first posted was, not to get into issues, but to address the personal misinformation. If you care about the issues…ask the candidates…they would love to talk to you. I posted under my name, not to create traffic, but to be accountable for my words.

Glad to have you aboard on the blog. Have never met your bro-in-law, but I hear he is a good father and husband etc. What he has not been is accurate. I understand, as do you, candidates have to have something to run on, and when they do not know facts, they make up their own. The fact is the school board member who has been proactive in trying to get sites is Mosley who went before the county commission to try and get a major school site approved as part of a comp plan land use change. She got shot down there, the developers won their land use change on appeal but NOW, there is no reason for them to donate a site now. The one person who has promoted impact fees for the past four years is Mosley, fought at every turn by your bro-in-law's mentor and fund raiser, Kurt Kelly -- that is fact not gossip. His effort to bring Steve Herring up and charge Sue with ethics charges is laughable since he and the school board have three letters saying his efforts to save the school board money was ethical and lawful. I expect more of the same since his consultant knows no way to run campaigns except by "in the mud" tactics.
You and I have been on the same side and different sides many times, and will in the future. That is what makes for good politics. Glad to see you on board.

the teachers who turned down your offer of $65,000 and no benefits haven't look at their benefit package. That would be more than they now get -- salary plus about 42%.
The thing I have never understood about your arguments is we are going to have public schools, period. Why not work to make them better rather than throw insults.

As I once said at one of the Lunch Bunch meetings, 99.5% of the soliders who defend our nation in the middle east and around the world, 99.5% of the lawmen an fire fighters and first defenders . . . they are products of our public schools.

While my son attended a private school as do my grandchildren, I know we will always have public schools; half of my taxes go to support them, and I want to make them better. I'd welcome your efforts along side me.

For what its worth, anyone who reads the strawpoll thread, first reads that the BlogMaster thinks someone is trying to manipulate the polls and then my name pops into the thread as the likely culprit. Thank you for the kind words and I guess you and I can agree to disagree without undue drama.

On the question of ethical behavior by elected officials. I think if you asked the average voter whether they saw a problem with an elected official doing business with the government entity they make descions for...the answer would be...yes. I am not suggesting that anybody has done anything illegal or that anything to date has hurt anybody, but do we really need to be paying lawyers to find out just how close we can get to that line without it being illegal?

hey pwf:

good strategy, say 99.5% of military and firefighters go to public school, i am againt public school, i am against the military. good try. if 70% of our children in marion county in 10th grade read below grade level and over 60% of the countries budget goes to social programs and over 60% of cfcc students have to have remedial education(old stat from 3 or 4 years ago) it looks to me that the system is broken and has been broke for a long time. what i would rather see is competition. the school budget is $450,000,000 and we have 43,000 students. it looks like to me that we spend over $10,000.00 per kid per year. no matter how you slice it it is a lot of money. if people had an option to take the money allotted them for education and had a choice to spend it where they chose i believe we would have a better system. if we know that as children go through the public system their reading scores get worse every year, that by 10th grade 70% cant function at the acceptable level why cant we try a different system. can it get any worse with something else and since we know that private schools do better with less money and homeschoolers do better with even less money than private schools isnt it only logical to try to get our kids in these types of systems. we continually pay more for public education and the results are the same, bad. if you asked every parent in the public school system if they were given lets say $6,000.00 a year to educate their kid where would they send them to a private school or public school what % do you think would say public school. we know your answer and my answer and we arent even getting the $6,000.00. and we could probably give a good educated guess on what most people would say. so if the people pay taxes for the system why cant we do what we want with our own money. because public education is not about whats in the best interest of our kids, if it was then they wouldnt be complaining about stupid stuff like trinity catholic recruiting athletes so they get a better education and a million other things. enough from me today.

I don't really ahve a problem with lawyers being involved in the decisions and to make sure we don'[t cross the line. You have to remember that just because you are elected, you are still a citizen and in certain situations you should not be subjected to a watered down version of the constitution.

If the people who make and enforce the law say it is alright, then who are we to even care.

I think that it is a choice whether you agree with the decision made. I think that the majority of the problem is not that you disagree or that Dave disagrees, I think the problem is the choice of wording that it is "unethical" according to the law, it is not unethical. Bad idea, maybe, not good business, maybe, but not unethical.

The word was used for effect and is just dirty politics. Dave needs to stick to the issues, as do you. He, and you, are wrong about the aquisition of the property for the schools, but chose to still harp on it.

But lets say that you are right, I am more interested in what Dave, or anyone running for office is going to do about it. Don't tell me about a problem with no proposed solution. Anyone can find problems, it takes a leader to find the solution.

SO what is Dave's solution to all the problems he has "discovered?"

i know many parents who feel Sen. Martinez's plan makes much sense. And I bet Bobby D would also agree.

The liberal group People for the American Way criticized Republican U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez for his new bill that would provide a tax credit of up to $4,500 to help families pay for the cost of private school tuition.

"The tuition tax credit scheme introduced by Senator Martinez is nothing more than a voucher program in disguise,'' said Christopher Norwood, the group's Florida deputy director. "Mel Martinez and his friends in the Senate seem more interested in giving tax breaks to the rich and pandering to the Right Wing than making American public schools better."

People for the American Way says the bill would primarily benefit middle-class and wealthy families but when he introduced the bill last week Martinez said it was designed to make it easier for middle class and low-income families to choose the best learning environment for their children.

"More than five million American students attend private schools each year at no expense to the American taxpayer. Parents that choose to provide a competitive education should not have to pay for their children's education twice," Martinez said. "By bringing fairness to the system, my bill also helps low and middle income families afford tuition."

Come on Bobby D,
I made no effort to put you against the military. It is a simple statement of fact: the vast majority of our fighting forces come from public schools, and we should applaud the job they have done, and therefore, the job teachers have done getting them ready for basic training.

Is it enough. No. Is what you and I do every day enough? No. (That's why I have owned my own business for 39 years -- I can only complain about myself when I dont do good, and complain I do!)

Like it or not, we will always, always have public shcools, and thank goodness for them, because 99% of the people are not willing to do what you do and home school (most people are not even remotely qualified to home school) or they are not willing to pay the bill for private schools, and it is a very hefty bill.

Without public education, we would have a nation of uneducated, instead as critics say, a nation of under educated.

All I am saying is work to improve them. You continue to learn to cook, or to change diapers, or to do talk radio; why not continue to improve our schools.

Also, if we started a dozen new Trinity Catholic schools today, where would we get the teachers? They would likely come from public schools, and if we say they do a lousy job there, how can we suddenly change them to become great teachers in private schools?

Good to commu icate.

Chip . . .
I would agree with the general premise that I would not do business with the school board if I was a member. These are the facts of this case, however: Steve was doing business with the school system, and was highly applauded for his work in keeping doors operating etc, and especially for the price he charged for his work, 10-15% UNDER market or anyone else who would bid. Why? for some strange reason, he wanted to contriubute instead of considering it to be a profit center. When elected, the facilities people began looking for another source, and could find none who would do what he had been doing at that price. They and he asked for the ethics ruling.

Frankly, this was never an issue until about two months after Steve crossed brother Kurt, and he started his purge movement. Kurt himself had voted to approve a door work bid from Steve just weeks before Steve crossed him.

Would I prefer he didn't do business with the system while a member? Probebaly. Do I like it he has been embarassed and we are paying more as a result of Kurt's showboat triade? No. You and I have both donated far more than anyone will ever know in time and services, but if Sky needed a new computer and you guys could furnish it chearer than a competitor, should management disqualify you? Of the same with the Ocala Civic Theater? No. There is a difference with the tax money from schools, but largely because we make it a problem.

My point is simply this: To charge someone with unethical behavior when it has found legally not to be so, shows the character of the complainer. If he would like some real issues, I could provide a large chart of what I would like to see change at schools and not unethically charge an opponent with said behavior.

hey pwf

once again, i didnt say the teachers did a bad job, i said the system. and 99% of our kids dont go to public schools. we have 43,000 kids in public school we have i would guess, with all the private schools and home school kids close to 10,000 kids in those facilities. with grace episcipal, blessed trinity, word of faith, ocala christian academy, st.johns luthern elementary and high school, living waters, first assembly, monterssori academy, redeemer christian school, shores christian academy, cornerstone, souls harbor, marion christian academy. if those schools have 500 students thats 7,500 students plus there are at least 2,000 kids enrolled in the public school homeschool program and at least another 2,000 kids in other homeschool programs. thats over 10,000 kids added to the 43,000 thats 53,000 thats closer to 20% of our kids that are out of the system not 99.9%. see when you look at the figures they are closer than we think. so how do we know that all the military guys and gals and the fireman and policeman are not educated in a homeschool or private school system. plus those jobs take courage first and foremost, and we both know they dont teach that in the school system

At 11:42 AM, August 21, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Bobby, I didn't say you said the teachers did a bad job, but the teachers are the system. As for the 99%, it is not 99% of Marion county students, but 99% of the military that are public school grads. I have talked to guys who commanded units and they didn't know of a single one who went to private schools. Even if it is 75% of them that are public school products, I am proud of them, and I still want to improve the product you in your heart know will always be with us, you and me and our privcate schooling to the contrary.

Recieved another very impressive flyer from Dave Alverez today, A bit redundant I've now gotten it three different times, talk about wasting money. Sue where are your flyers maybe you need to make one that says Dave says Sue's unethical, the Ethics Commission says she's not who do you believe?

Also, Sue have any of your companies gone bancrupt?

I have found more lies on this blog and the only way I found it was because someone onto the lies on this site had to TOTALLY walk me through posting here. First of all David Alvarez has NEVER been bankrupt OR worked for a bankrupt company. Some DINGDONG apparently pulled up Microdine (co he was CEO at) and it showed bla bla bankruptsy but if you click on it you find THAT COMPANY BOUGHT BANKRUPT COMPANIES!!!! Also, Sue Mosely said TO ME over the tabloid talk show host Bobby Dee that Judy Zanetti could varify that David Alverez was to "be her campaign manager" and that was a TOTAL LIE Sue told me PUBLICLY on the radio station!! Unlike most people I CHECKED Sue Mosley's lie out and Mrs Zanetti knew nothing of any such deal David Alvarez had made with Mosley. I have known Sue for years and found her gig to go like this.....when she is caught in a lie she throws her arms up, starts crying like Tammy Faye and makes herself to be a "victim" to distract people from her voting record. She even went on the Bobby Dee show and said how parents should go to athletic functions WITH THEIR CHILD vs depending on the school system to film it. Well, her daughter cheered with my daughter and I never saw her come WITH her daughter to anything in high school. So,her daughter pulled every stunt she could think of to get mom's attention to include wearing her pajamas to Forest High School AFTER her mom was a School Bd member!!! Her child finally moved out as a high school senior. I LOVE THAT CHILD!!!! I truly believe that child LOVES ME TOO because she KNOWS I would go to bat for her as I already have before. At her grandmother's funeral (Sue's mother) it was ME that comforted that lovely child at her Grandma's funeral and NOT her mother.

hey nancy:

the dig on me being a tabliod show is silly, it is a lot of things but its not tabloid. and nancy you should be ashamed of yourself that you would bring someones child into this area. you need to get some class. its one thing to talk about a politician but its another to bring in their family life into this and talk about someones child. it reminds me of the time the liberals brought up cheney's gay daughter and pres bush's kids drinking problem, you know someones true colors when they are getting spanked in a political race and revert to personal attacks on someones family life. and then try to make it better by saying that you love them. if you really loved that kid, you would shut your mouth and let the issues speak for themselves. this is the same thing that the star banner does to conservative randy harris, stan mcclain, denise baxley and pres. bush. so sue mosley is in good company. oh is the mary rahm on mr. alverez's campaign contributions list the same mary rahm that performs abortions in gainsville? dont forget the lunch bunch at logans roadhouse on the last weds of the month 12:30pm. call daystar radio to make a reservation at 369-8950. school board member ron crawford is the guest speaker. all are welcome free appetizers please just call to make reservation. sept lunch bunch im looking to invite jimmy walker and denise baxley, baxley already confirmed and i have to contact mr. walker, if you read this please respond.

Nancy,

there is a word for your kind, and it goes something like this EVIL B@#TH!!!!

You and your husband couldnt win an election, you and Alvarez will not win an election. Count on it!!! You have solidified a vote for Sue Mosley for alot of people!!!

To stoop so low as to talk about her the way you have, even the bottom of bottom to talk about how you were the saviour for her family during her mother's death is beyond belief.

You know what? Let me go ahead and say it. You are a cold harded bitch!

Your gig, as you say, is obvious to. When you can't get your way your evil spirit knows no end.

You will lose Nancy and you don't even realize that it is your mouth that seals your fate every time. Keep talking Nancy. You will always help the other side this way.

I like Ocalaslim’s suggestion of having an appointed Superintendent of Schools rather than an elected one. However, us taxpayers had better be ready to pay about double what the current Super receives in salary. It would take some big money to attract a high quality head for our School System. To me, it’s worth it.

Wonder what the candidates for School Board think?

Wow, Nancy has certainly set a new record.

Let's recap the type of people Dave has surrounded himself with.

1. Kurt Kelly, I really don't need to explain what an idiot Kurt is.

2. Chip Morris, who despite being proven that the Ethics Commission has ruled no ethical violation on the part of the School Board and the fact that the Board has either aquired or is in the process of aquiring the property needed for the new schools, continues to speak about the same two issues and his disapointment in the Board.

3. Nancy Stacy, who is clearly a raving lunatic who has absolutely no class or control of herself. By the way Nancy I would be careful about trashing someone's kids and family. Yours, I believe, has had problems in the past.

If these are the types of people that Dave has around him, then god help us.

Well thanks to Chip and now Nancy my vote is solidified for Mosely. I just left a meeting with the members of my gated community and we have now all decided to vote for Mosely due to the underhanded dirty politics of Dave.

It is truly a sad day when a local School Board race has dipped to this level. Remeber folks, at the Polls who was underhanded and who was truly above board and as Kurt puts it "Above Reproach" during the campaign. Vote for Mosely.

Nancy, if you are reading this, and I'm sure you are, you have no idea the amount of votes you just got for Sue.

Most of us who attend REC meetings know Stacy needs her medication to keep a level of civility, and Rocky needs to renew her prescription soon.

I missed Nancy's words at the meeting with fellow Republicans. I still have no idea who she is and this thread does not represent what she said....apart from others restating it. A bit confusing if you ask me (A Digital Pimp). I simply came upon this forum based on an SEO search online for the "Drive Time Happy Hour". Which says it all to me. People are talking about our show and in the process I've seen some attempts to discredit my company and my dear partner Chip Morris. When is enough...simply enough?

PC House Productions has never shown itself to be unethical in the public eye. Yet there are those who have stated as much. Based on what? Agenda?

River....sorry for offending you. Obviously you are a marble with an attitude.

Al....please allow me to introduce myself. I'm a Stone Cold Digital Pimp who is more than happy to correct all of your computer problems with the wave of my mouse at Mr. PC, which is located at 1627 E. Silver Springs Blvd. Sorry for the plug but Al asked for it.

Apart from that, I spend much of my time working on marketing projects for a myriad of clients. You can find out more at pchouseproductions.com....which some have badmouthed in this forum and yes I take personal offense to that.

Interesting mr.pc that you would now admit who you are when you were trying to play pollitically ignorant earlier in the blog. You and your dear friend Chip have taken offense to this blog and joined in to make a mockery of the people posting. Similar to what you do on your show. If you don't like us leave the blog and don't worry about what is written hear.
Be productive and comment with facts or don't comment at all. God forbid someone call into your show and try and act like you have here, you and chip would shred them to pieces.

Ps. chip was at the REC meeting I'm sure he shared with you the details of the evening!

Some on guys, lighten up a bit. It is far more interesting to read about Nancy's ravings than read about who Mr. PC may be. And he is not as naïve as he tries to make out in his postings. And I haven’t seen any bad things about PC House or your clients. Any comments I read were more directed to my old friend Chip (who is about as innocent as me!).

But since you asked, I will tell you. Mr. PC is a guy who with Chip Morris has a computer company who sent on five minutes notice a wonderful young man to my shop the other morning to straighten out the mess I had created, and did it all in about 45 minutes. I was under deadline, of all things, to finish some ads for Sue Mosley, my computer went down, I called Chip, her opponent’s bro-in-law, and a dollar meaning a lot, Chip quickly responded with the tech! Need a computer tech, call them, they are good.

Now back to the rantings. Actually they are sad, as well as harmful, hurtful, and half truths. Being one who works with words, I can absolutely see Alvarez saying he might then maybe, then would think being Sue's campaign manager, sort of like me saying come visit sometime and you saying sure.

But his campaign is not based on that problem. It is based on selective words that he has turned into facts in his brochures. Some simply untrue, some half truths.

But the real measure of him is not whether his company is as successful as he claims (it was not) or whether he served Jeb Bush on a committee. The real test came when he tried to get a cop doing his job protecting our schools censured for doing that job. His call to the authorities in the Vanguard IP students case was inexcusable, indefensible, and disgraceful. That gives me a better indication of how he would conduct himself as a board member, and he failed the test.

First off, I have not admitted to anything apart from being a "Stone Cold Digital Pimp" and a "Moron" and this is only my third post so there is no reason to make is sound as if I've presented something false this crowd.

Some people simply make a mockery of themselves without any help from me.

However, if I've made anyone feel bad about themselves based on my 2 other posts....please forgive me.

Going forward, I think "sticking with facts" is a good suggestion from Anonymous who is afraid to post as himself or herself (fact). If you stick to the facts, I won't bother you any longer. Forgive the intrusion.

He used to let strait ramble on and attack people, marguerite says nothing for long periods of time, but it is wrong for him to allow anyone to attack someone viciously like stacy always does in some election campaign. her brand of religion is not mine, and she will likely try and get the OSB to print some of her lunatic stuff.
