Looks like City of Ocala voters are confirming their agreement that things are going well in the Mayor’s office!
Tell us how you feel about the Election results.

P.S.:
There were 3673 voters of 29,803 registered (12.3%).
I've been waiting to hear the results. Randy Ewers will continue to do a great job. We did not need a return to the politics of old.
Boy I missed this one! I said Ewers by 52% to 48%. He must have worked his butt off getting people out to vote--even as few as showed up.
I am extremely disappointed that the voter's of Marion County do not take their voting responsibilities seriously. Disgusted at the turnout. To those 25,000 that did not vote; don't complain! I was not happy with either one, however, Ewers did not show any kind of leadership with the E-One mess or the downtown mess so I voted for new blood.
It's a shame that 12.3% turnout was actually slightly above average for one of these races.
I'd like to suggest a topic to the webmaster for discussion. That the Ocala Mayor's race be moved to the even numbered years so that there will be an increase in voter turnout.
Even in non Presidential years there would be congressional and other contests that would bring people in.
Clark won only 3 of 28 precincts and also lost the absentee and provisional vote. He got a good old fashioned rear-end whipping!!!
I could not vote in the Mayor election. However, as I've said before, Mayor Ewers was much better in addressing the issues. Mr. Clark was too touchy feely in his campaign.
When I read that the former Police Chief was helping Clark, that signed the deal for me to vote for Ewers.
Boy this has got to sting. Lets see how ong Dave stays a member of the Rotary and how involved he becomes in local issues. As I have said befroe, I never saw him at any community function that I attended, and I attend a lot of them.
by the way Morrey, move on, leave the Chief and OPD alone, you did anough harm while you were there.
Go MAYOR Ewers!!!!
Voice of Reason says . . .
In the end, I think that Ewers conveyed an honest desire to serve the public good more than Clark did. He is seen as a humble person who is a "nice guy." Unfortunately, while such compassion and sensitivity is a great characteristic when choosing a Chairman of the United Way, it is undesirable for a Mayor who has the power to veto a completely inept City Council.
It's ironic that the Water Management District decision to back-off the Ocklawaha came out right before this election. The water management district got scared of a county commission that decided to dig-in their heels and fight back. Alternatively, Ewers threw-in the towel a long time ago and not fight.
Most people I talked to said that they were voting for Ewers because, while they didn't think that he did anything good, they didn't think that he did anything really bad either. Put another way, he didn't really do anything - he simply sat on a fence. So, again the voters went to the booth out of a sense of duty and unenthusiastically pulled the lever for the lesser of the "evils." The other 87% correctly realized that their time was better spent popping Edy's Dibs in their mouth and watching Dr. Phil.

I agree anon 11:21 when I saw that Clark was being coached by the "great Morrey Deen" that sealed it for me. Morrey needs to go hide in the sand after this one. That's three shameful events now, Morrey go away!
what did i tell you about late nite posts??
I don't know--what did you tell us?
10:36. I think you are right. You are wise beyond your years.
We need more young people like Randy Ewers involved in our local politics. Too many old heads already involved--glad the city voters kept Ewers in office.

There seem to be a lot of people with negative views of Morrey Deen. I'm just curious because I don't really know anything about him. What is it that people don't like about him?
I don't have a direct answer to your question. But how could someone be the Chief of Police of Ocala for a long period of time and not made some enemies?
Why don't we ask past Mayor Foster what it was like to work with Deen, he was there for 6 years with him?
RE:7:38 -"shameless" I dont think the Deen for Senator race was to shameless and that was the last campaign Ocala's Deen participated in. As I remember Ed Deen is now sitting in Tallahassee! :>}

There were a lot of people with negative views about Jesus as well. (NOT trying to say they are the same) Leading in a position such as the Chief, never was a popularity contest. Neither is the Mayor or Council's position, although that seems to be what they have turned into. LETS GET SOME GUSTO, TAKE A CHANCE AND POSSIBLY OFFEND SOMEONE! LEAD, PUNT OR GET OUT OF THE WAY!
True, so true.

I'd like to see a Morrey Deen thread - seriously, that would be great.
From what I've seen, he is usually at patriotic events around town. I think that he was involved in getting that Veteran's Park on Silver Springs Boulevard and 25th Ave. Possible he teamed-up with Parnell for that.
He might have even formed some group that goes around to public schools teaching patriotism.
I also read in the Banner that he was involved lately in getting a military-type charter school going. Kinda-like a permanent Boy Scout jamboree camp prep school for the military academies.
So, Gunn Nutt, from what I can observe from this Blog, the Banner and vague recollection, you can characterize Deen as an amalgamation of: Police Chief/Patriot/Boy Scout Leader/Carl Rove type King-Maker/activist and school founder.
I would like to hear what he has done to get so many of these bloggers' nook-nooks in a noose though. That would be fun to read.

Morrey Deen was an employee of Ocala Police Dept. for many years, and retired as Chief of Police.
Charles Dean was Sheriff of Citris County for a number fo years and retired. He later ran for State Senate against Anna Cowan and lost. This summer, he ran against Dennis Baxley for State Senate (Nancy Argenziano's seat) and won and is the current senator.
Ed Dean has been Sheriff for nine years and has never served as state rep or senator in Tallahassee. --pwf
I think Clark did an excellent job for his first time running for office. I voted for him. I respected his clean politics. That last race that took place earlier this summer irritated me with the smear campaigning. Even though I had voted for Baxley previously I went with Deen because of what he stood for and even more so because of Baxley's negative flyers that constantly came into my mailbox...they really irked me.
Randy's a nice guy, but I think it's a shame that he was elected to that position for 2 more years. Oh well, no lamenting what is already done...maybe Clark can run an "I told you so" campaign in 09'. Let's hope that this race at least inspired Randy to step up to the plate and take more action as well as a firmer stance on things in the future. I hope he also will listen to the voice of the people and represent them as he should.
PWF--Thanks for the clarification.
I guess the voters prefer a young, engineer with a full head of hair and pleasing personality over an older, balding developer (rapist of the environment).
Clark also needs to reassess his political allies if he wants to run again in 2009.

Thanks to all who responded to my question
6:50 PM,
That was cold!
Yeah, probably reflects the character of the poster!~
"Clark also needs to reassess his political allies if he wants to run again in 2009."

he could probably get someone with a pleasing personality like this poster, NOT.
Anyone read the OSB editorial this AM regarding leadership? Key point made that has been discussed on this board many times before; LEADership. Just do it. :>}
I saw that column. You could say the same thing about 75% of the politicians in our community.
I would even include our "popular" governor in that category. He has taken on the soft issues and left the hard stuff (i.e.,less popular) to others--that's going to be his downfall if he keeps going the same way. And it will also be the same for Ewers.
AMEN, BROTHER!
"We made a great mistake in the beginning of our struggle, and I fear, in spite of all we can do, it will prove to be a fatal mistake. We have appointed all our worst generals to command our armies, and all our best generals to edit our newspapers."
Robert E Lee
Realize, he was poking fun at the newspaper editors!!!
If you think any newspaper editor would be a great General, you are on something.
Voice of Reason says . . . .
How true Lee's words remain today. The propaganda war is just as important as the military fighting.

just my point anon at 3:40.
Ewers wins in a borderline landslide and the "paper" urges better leadership.
There are more at "city hall" that I have voted against than voted for but there is some things happening that are a positive.
Everything is public record. Take some time to dig into a few issues.
"borderline landslide"
Political Science majors do not explain 38% of the vote on a first time run a borderline landslide. They call it awesome and know the winning candidate is listening to the challenger's words and platform!
"there is some things happening that are a positive"
if you would care to enumerate we are waiting to read about them?
It might encourage citizens to become involved if they could see some hope! Point of the article is that after two years the public is still unaware of the progress made (in the last two years) or better yet, the current incumbents name.
