The Star-Banner editorial today confirmed what I have known about my Democratic Party leadership for sometime. They are a do nothing, complain about everything bunch. The Republicans, of late, aren’t thrilling me either.

Unfortunately, nothing is going to change until 2008. The 2006 elections will be nothing but “status quo”. Are the Dems dead? It sure looks like it.

dave, so you think the democrats are in a mess. how about the right wing republican conservatives? they are about to go into meltdown. watch the giuliani and mccain types start to exert their influence.

I had hoped the new blog section would end the rattle but it looks like it won't. Lot of people quit listening to talk radio much of time time just because of such prattle. Looks like egos win out again and just won't let it end, but I am ready for something new. How about it blogmaster? Can't these guys continue their battle with wet noodles on Section 1 and let this one be for elections? Enough of the name calling.

It was interesting yesterday to listen to the chairman of the Marion County GOP Exec Commuittee criticize the president about immigration, issuing a call for action to get people to call Cliff Stearns and demand action.

This the same chairman and the same GOP exec committee that refused to seat a duly elected Exec Committee member because that person, Steve Klein, had the unmitigated gall to criticize the president about the nation's policy supportting terrorists called Palestinians. And what was Randy doing???

But I guess there is a difference in demanding a call to the halt of Mexicans and protecting the only ally we have in the Middle East.

I look forward to the committee now demanding that Harris step aside for criticizing the President -- yeah, I'll be gone and in heaven before that happens.

Talk Radio Fan is so correct! If any local Republican openly disagrees with or criticizes Randy Harris on anything, they are immediately dubbed “liberals” or bad Republicans by Harris and his lackeys. You can count on at least one radio show and possibly two to continue the liberal tagging of a Harris critic. However, I guess it is OK for Harris to jump on our #1 Republican without also being labeled a liberal. Interesting how we have a dual standard.

By the way, Steve Klein is not missing anything by no longer being a member of the REC. I now have greater respect of him because of his willingness to fight the prejudicial REC establishment.

Dave,

Want to know why the Democrats are in such a mess? I received this from a good friend. Just look at what one of the Dem’s big mouthpieces is doing:

Jessie Jackson has added former Chicago Democrat Congressman Mel Reynolds to Rainbow/PUSH Coalition's payroll. Reynolds was among the 176 criminals excused in President Clinton's last-minute forgiveness spree. Reynolds received a commutation of his six-and-a-half-year federal sentence for 15 convictions of wire fraud, bank fraud and lies to the Federal Election Commission. He is more notorious, however, for concurrently serving five years for sleeping with an underage campaign volunteer.

This is a first in American politics: An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate... won clemency from a president who had sex with a subordinate... then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate.

His new job?

Ready for this?

Bobby D,

Why don't you give us your point of view on what "talk radio fan" and "modcon republican" had to say?

I believe you are still one of the REC "do-what-you-are-told" group, aren't you? Since you are one of our Party "leaders" (wrong word-I meant followers, not leaders), I would like to know more about your political philosophies, beyond abortion.

This would be much more interesting to many of us than the continuing dialogue (free advertising) about you and your program.

Bobby D,

I have been reading the thread that covers the discussion about your show. I have never listened to you and didn't even know who you were. If what you say above is true, then you are probably just like many of the individuals this blog is designed for--frustrated with today's politics.

Why haven’t we heard anything from the Blogmaster on the President’s appointment of Harriet Miers? When John Roberts was appointed this blog was quick to have a special posting “endorsing“ his appointment. So far, not a peep about Miers.

At 11:40 AM, October 08, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

John Roberts was a clear cut nominee for the Supreme Court. He had the brains, legal background, etc. to make his appointment an excellent one.

However, Miers is a different situation.

As my Aunt Kate (95 years old) tells me: “Don’t say anything about anything you don’t know anything about.”

Nuff said!

Ditto on Miers. This is a scary appointment!

Bobby, people wouldn't object to your opinions if there was a factual basis for them. Unfortunately, much of the time, there isn't one. You frequently defame people because you either do not know the facts or because you choose to ignore the facts to make your point. That is probably why people do not use their names; it is why I will not, because I have heard you simply lie about people you disagree with -- sorry, but it is true. Good luck on your new program. I do with you would answer radioman's statements, he raised some good points, which you chose to ignore, just throwing more stuff to try and get by without an answer. You said Father O' said people were critical "because we are winning." I submit he and his cause are winning, because he is based on facts, not misrepreentations. Funny how he is able to make his point without ever calling people names like like you have, names like gestopo, emperor, pornograper, saying they can not be a Christian if they disagree with your position etc . . .
May God help you to be more truthful and kinder in your new gig.

At 9:50 AM, October 09, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Radioman is the one who is running from the facts as far as I can tell...He came on talking about how "Insignificant" and small the Bobby D show was and then when presented with "FACTS" regarding the size of the new 89.5fm signal,he gave some lame commentary about the "footprint" of the signal. After going on some official radio sites it is obvious that 89.5fm has one of the biggest service areas of all the local radio stations.Radioman has yet to concede this point, but has disapeared.

The reason Bobby D is so criticized is because he calls it the way he sees it and is not intimidated by the "Big Money" players currently dominating the local political scene..He gives a voice to "The people"...Some will simply not approve of the people actually having a voice!!

At 10:16 AM, October 09, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Now you have spun Bobby D from the opposer of the "Ivory Tower" people to opposer of the "Big Money" players. Would you folks get a life and start talking about the issues instead of vague statements of class warfare. That is what's wrong with our country and talk radio. You are starting to sound like a bunch of my fellow Democrats.

At 2:55 PM, October 09, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

LOL.The "Big money" politicians and the "Ivory Tower" people are the same type of folks! Live real comfortable and dont like to be criticized.LOL

At 6:37 PM, October 09, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Power To The People says the people they are against are those who "live real comfortably and don't like to be criticized". Seems to me we have a class issue. So now living comfortably is a negative. Tell that to many in this community who have brought themselves out of poverty by education and hard work to get where they are today.

Accepting criticism works both ways, Mr. People Power. Your whole premise sounds like something out of the Communist Manifesto. I guess the only thing that would satisfy you is that no one live real comfortably. I see much jealously in your thinking.

I will continue to live real comfortably, support my church and my family and give and take criticism when it is necessary, including to and from folks like you and Bobby D.

It is unfortunate you have to use "labels". I have one for you "Envious"!

I have an idea. Let’s get Bobby D and Radioman on radio together. We could have our own local version of Hannity & Colmes. Just think about this, a talk radio program called “Bobby D & Radioman”. Imagine the ratings potential of this combination! We won’t have to listen to anymore ridiculous arguments about the station’s “wattage”, and the listener base could be amazing. However, better have someone from OPD on standby in the studio just in case things get a bit out of hand.

So the station footprint does't matter? Why then do stations submit new information monthly to the FCC to get permission to go in different directions and become more competitive? Dont think I ran from any facts, not at all.
And I haven't gone anywhere.

HARRIET MIERS

The following is an article about Harriet Miers from the Gainesville Sun that bloggers might be interested in:

Article published Oct 9, 2005
An 'honest broker'

Rush to prejudgment. This is pretty much the order of the day regarding Harriet Miers. Crony. Intellectual lightweight. Souter redux - all of these political epithets have been tossed hurriedly and ungraciously toward President Bush's nominee for the Supreme Court.

Conservative and liberal alike were dumbfounded. With a long list of distinguished federal jurists and formidable constitutional minds to choose from, how could the president select someone lacking not only a Supreme Court clerkship but, as far as anyone knows, even a Supreme Court appearance?

Easy. The president actually believes that, as Alexander Hamilton put it, the Supreme Court is intended to be "the least dangerous" branch of government. Hamilton himself drew this inference from Montesquieu, who taught the first Americans everything they knew about the separation of powers. And the most important thing Montesquieu taught the Founders is that the political or policymaking branches are to remain separate from the judiciary if tyranny is to be avoided. Indeed, Montesquieu instructed, the judiciary should be "next to nothing."

In other words, those asked to interpret the law fashioned by legislative assembly are expected to be objective, impartial and circumspect in deciding issues no more broadly than the legal dispute needing resolution. Jurists are to be fair and, while learning and practice in the law are expected, no justice is invited to propound a personal philosophy on the great issues of the universe: abortion, affirmative action, assisted suicide, religion in public life.

But, it is claimed, she is so unlike John Roberts. In fact, though, Miers is exactly like Roberts in one crucial aspect: They are both steadfast adherents to a judicial ethic of no personally imposed points of view. The cognoscenti snicker when the president reaffirms his criterion of judges who will shun legislating from the bench, since to legal realists, it is inconceivable and to political ideologues it is a missed opportunity. They all do, they all will, goes the refrain. To which Roberts repeatedly answered: No, not this umpire. The same answer can be expected from Miers as she makes her bid to join the officiating crew.

Roberts, of course, does have an encyclopedic knowledge of the court's jurisprudence - even as he has studiously avoided saying whether he likes any of it. The conservative whine on the blogs is that Miers will need to be cross-examined by the Senate Judiciary Committee to see if she even knows the names of the court's principal cases. Some say that this accomplished counsel may not muster a passing grade from the American Bar Association (ABA). Nonsense.

Miers is not Roberts' equal in court doctrine, but few mortals are. No one who examines her skill and acumen in the practice of law, though, can doubt her capability to master it. This is a woman who went from being the first female to break through the Texas old-boy network to being managing partner of a firm of 400-plus lawyers. She was elected state bar president and defended the ABA's nominee screening role, even when the political wisdom in the Bush administration itself was to the contrary. Miers' resume is one of hard work and service to corporate clients such as Microsoft and to those too poor to afford a lawyer. Her pro bono commitments in Texas to legal aid in immigration and civil cases are well known.

Senators of both parties encouraged the president to look outside the so-called judicial monastery. If they were serious - and they should have been - Miers has precisely the right background. A former at-large member of the Dallas City Council, she has a sense of accountability at the grass-roots level. Her more than two decades of advising clients and meeting their expectations will help her assess the practical import of some of the court's abstract and too often sharply divided handiwork. And on the last point - reaching consensus - Miers has had a pivotal role in the White House for the past four years doing just that. As staff secretary, deputy chief of staff and now counsel to the president, Miers has a reputation, as described by her former boss Andy Card, as an "honest broker."

Miers once described her method. "People understand winning or losing," she said. "What they don't understand is that they didn't have a fair hearing." It's elemental, perhaps, but all the constitutional erudition in the best legal library could not summarize the judicial role better.

[Douglas W. Kmiec is chairman and professor of constitutional law at Pepperdine University. He served as head of the Office of Legal Counsel to presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.]

I have just read your posting of the piece on Harriet Miers. It was good, and I think sums up my feeling. She sounds like the type of person I want as a judge. I do NOT want someone who sits over coffee and tells me he or she will rule in my favor. Rather, I want a person who is skilled at reading case law, statutes and the constitution, and make a ruling that may actually disagree with my position and sometimes with their own position on the issue; a person who is always fair.
I do not like right wing philosophies any more than I like left wing philosophies, because every case is different. From all I can find about Miss Miers, she is a good fit on the court, Pat Buchanan, George Will, Trent Lott, Bill Kristol and others to the contrary.

I will trust the Prez on the Miers appointment. He knows more about her than he did Roberts and I believe he will be just fine as Chief Justice. I have no doubt she will be fair and impartial.

Bobby D, was said to have lied about something, EXACTLY WHAT? Now lets not confuse a statement that turns out to be NOT true with a LIE. A LIE is a LIE when the person making the statement KNOWS it is NOT true. To say someone LIEs is defamation unless proven to be true. Put up or Shut up.

When you go on radio-locator.com and check out the coverage map of 89.5FM VS.91.3FM you can see that it is a much bigger coverage area!

Can you at least concede this FACT??

Glad to see you did some homework, but if you check the same site for the coverage signal for WMOP (2,700 watts) you see it is about the same as 89.5.

But you miss the point -- it is content that brings an audience, not wattage. When you have content directed to a small audience segment, you get a small audience.

This is the appeal of the show-its not "Commercial" at all-but its very very "REAL"..

You aren't afraid of people reading the blog are you?

Here is the address:

Bobby D,

Your suggestion sounds reasonable to us.

After all, we have a similar objective: to promote an open forum for discussing important local issues.

Let's not get hung up on commercialization of our communication methods by advertisers. We will not accept any advertising on this blog. We have turned down several requests to do so, and we remove any spam ads that are placed on the blog.

We will remain totally self-sufficient; no business money/advertising or other contributions. It's the only way to maintain an objective and blogger-friendly blogsite.

Keep on blogging with us!

At 10:47 PM, October 11, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Glad that Bobby D agreed he will just comment on issues and not use this blog to advertise his radio show.

One of the nice things about this blog is that we aren't interrupted by commercials and this is available 24 hours a day. Also, seems to have a more open-minded group of people than talk radio shows in Ocala. I even have a friend in Maine, who lives here a few months of the year, and he reads the blog from Maine--how is that for "wattage" and reach?

I notice little support for Miers from the various “women’s groups”. Even Laura Bush, who pushed for a female Justice, has been relatively silent about Miers. Perhaps Laura is concerned that a Saturday Night Live skit about Harriet and “Bushy” might be true. What should we read into this, if anything?

Bobby asks why I have not answered his questions. I am unaware of any questions he has asked I have not answered. It is possible, in his litnany of whatever with no punctuation, no periods, no commas, bad syntax, etc. that a question remains.

Frankly, I thought it was the other way around, because I have yet to see him truthfully answer ANY questions. It is like the old lawyer joke, when you haven't got the facts or the law, you argue bs.

It is a fact that he said his wife got WIC funds and food stamps and his reason he gave was that he does not earn enough money to support his family. I didn't say it, he did. I didn't say he has 15,000 listeners, he did. I didn't defame people across this county who happen not to agree with him, he did. I didn't wonder how many "hundreds of thousands of dollars" the school board spent to defend Marion County's decision not to continue with a fundamentally flawed locally charter school, but quickly dropped the subject when the state Charter School Commission unaminously rejected the school's appeal, and then the state cabinet unaminously rejected the appeal of that appeal. I would think as one of the "little people" who claims to have taken over politics, he could get a friendly school board member to tell you the accurate amount, or just call the Superintendent's secretary and ask for the true amount, I'd like to know. Anyone want to take book on the fact that it was less than what Bobby said?

Someone said it is a lie when you know before you said it that it was untrue, otherwise it might be only a mistake. Well, Bobby knew the school board did not authorize "hundreds of thousands of dollars" for any attorneys, so using the logic of his defender, the facts might well indcate he knew what he was saying was untrue.

And yes Bobby did use the word gestopo in referring to the elected Superintendent of Schools and the elected School Board, along with other childish words to try and discredit him and them.

Oh yes, he is also the one who raised the fact that he came from New York to Central Florida and then to Ocala, not the blog.

So give me the questions I want answered in a form that supports your college education, and I will try to provide answers.

Radioman-you can just go back a wee bit and read the questions.Even I saw them.LOL

The elected superintendant of schools is supposed to answer to the "People", not run and hide.

The marion county public schools are ABYSMAL. I Have 2 school age kids and know first hand what a mess they are.The difference between public and private school is like night and day.Why shouldnt the school superintendant be asked to answer questions regarding the school system in our county?? I hope he is not too big, powerful and significant to stoop so low as to talk to the regular parent??

At least Bobby D has a real open door policy so people that disagree with him have an opportunity to be heard.Maybe you should call his show for a chat??

How about you guys quit battling each other and lets talk about the school system. What about that? I also have kids in the local system and I think it sucks!

Hi,Dave; What "Sucks" about the local school system?? I personally feel one of the problems is that the folks who run the schools are not really held acountable for what is going on in the schools. Is this a problem in your opinion??

Bobby D, here is a new topic for you to rant on, the others are getting pretty stale. from DRUDGE, "K-Y Product Lines Heat Up in Middle America. That sex sells comes as no surprise. That it's now selling quite nicely at Wal-Mart Stores -- the naughty-magazine-yanking retail nanny -- may come as a shock, AD AGE reports. Suddenly at the forefront of taking sex aids mainstream, conservative marketer Johnson & Johnson almost overnight has doubled sales of its once-sleepy K-Y brand for the second time in four years thanks to the blockbuster summer rollout of a new line of massage oils. And nowhere has that success been greater than at Wal-Mart, where K-Y Touch Massage oils have hit the list of top 10 new health and beauty products of 2005, according to J&J VP-Personal Care Marketing Jim Peterson."
This should produce a whole new crop of kids for the government schools!

So Bobby has some questions he wants me to answer. Sorry I have been negligent in providing, but some of us have another life. them.
Let's see, he can remember two but not the third one. I have been gainfully employed at an honest living throughout my worklife. I am an American who immigrated to Florida. And to quote him, what difference does that make. In fact, if I wanted to waste more time, I could quote his entire blog back to him, since he refuses to admit what even his supporters admit -- he did say his family was on welfare at one time, he did stretch the immagination about audience, etc but what difference does that make. He is right on one thing -- he does have a nice wife (yes, I have met her) who obviously works hard taking care of her children and home schooling them to boot. No problem there with me, and no one ever criticized her on this blog (or insulted her). But Bobby, better hang on to this wife, cause you'll go a long way before you find another like her. She is a candidate for sainthood.

Power To The People:

My concern is more with the accountability of parents. Yes, the administration and teaching in our schools could improve. But to me, the bigger problem is bad parenting. To just blame Supt. Yancey and others is a cop out.

I’m amazed at some of the bad behavior of students that I hear about from my kids. If kids aren’t getting attention at home, how in the heck can we expect the teachers to substitute for parents? Have you ever talked with any teachers about this? I have and it’s a bad situation.

Our schools are getting more money than ever, and still our kid’s results are not showing improvement. There are things that could be done better by administrators and teachers. There are also quite a few things that could be done better by us parents. Take a look at the thread about our local school board; there are many good ideas and points of view.

Our school system sucks because parents are not doing their share in teaching their kids some basics at home. Criticizing school officials isn’t going to solve the problem.

At 8:42 PM, October 13, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dave;Parents are the most important people in a kids life. This is for sure, but take a good kid and put him/her in a bad school and they are gonna be fighting an uphill battle.

My experience with marion county schools is limited to my two kids and to me it seems like the elementary schools are OK-but the middle and highschools leave alot to be desired.

My older kid is now in a private school and it has made a world of difference.Same kid-different school. When this kid was in public school it was a bad dream and I felt like the schools really didnt care all that much about the kids as much as trying to cover their own butts. This was at middle and highschool levels. The elementary school my young one goes to has been different.

My older one was never a good student in the public school setting(was always a good kid). Was made fun of her whole life and was exposed to alot of bad stuff at school. One year in a private school has changed all that around and its been quite amazing to witness.Good grades and everything!
I know for a fact that "Discipline" and a school that watches the kids closely has played a big role in this.No nonsence tolerated.LOL

I dont have the answers-but having elected leaders who run and hide from acountability is probably a "PART" of the problem.

Radioman-Your very personal attack on Bobby D is getting old and tired.Bobby stands up everyday for mostly what is right and is a very good man.You may not agree with his positions and thats OK,but trying to paint him as an "Insignificant" person is really quite rediculous!!

I was also concerned for the safety of my family when Bobby D made false, outrageous and harmful statements about me during the last election. This is something that seems OK for him to do, but don't have anyone do the same to him. This is the way a typical bully acts, they become a "wuss" under pressure. I doubt Bobby needs to fear Radioman. However, he should fear his day of reckoning in Heaven.

My favorite local talk radio shows include Bob Rose and Chip Morris (Sky). Both of them are much more professional, accurate, and fact and issue based in their programs than BD. John Lund’s (WOCA) controversial program is also far superior to BD’s. That’s why I listen to these guys instead of BD.

Perhaps BD’s move to a new local radio station will give him an opportunity to present a better program. I might start listening again if there is more gospel music and less talk.

PTTP:

You made my point by your example about sending your children to private school. The children attending these schools generally have parents who are very interested in getting their kids well educated. We wish we could afford private school and we would do that. However, most people can’t and aren’t able to remove kids from a public system that has many more bad-parent kids than your private school.

Maybe our whole public education system needs to be privatized. And that’s coming from a Democrat.

At 10:12 PM, October 14, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dave-Its so true about the parenting part of raising good kids! The schooling does play a part as well in my opinion.Kids need an environment where they are encouraged to be the best people they can be.This happens so much more in private schools.I wish all could afford a private school education for their kids. Also think the public schools in our county can be vastly improved if we as a community prioritized our Kids more..

Regarding talk radio-I must say I have listened to chip and PC,Bob Rose and Big bad John and I have not heard any of them get into the real heart of the issues like Bobby D does. They are more entertainment based shows while Bobbys show is more "REAL" and cutting edge.Hey, its not easy tackling the harder issues and taking a stand on them when the politically correct folks are gonna have a problem with your position.

Bobby is a real guy with a big heart and does what he does out of a passion to give a voice to people who otherwise may go unheard..This may not be the most entertaining thing to your ears, but at least its not fluffy lightweight sort of radio..If I wanna get a warm fuzzy feeling in my belly and be entertained; I will listen to some music or go to a Chick flick.LOL

For the record-I am not a dem or republican.Just vote for what I think is right.

radioman, I want to keep hearing from you on other topics. i like the way you think and present your point of view. your opinion on issues beyond booby d would be very interesting to hear. if i were scoring the debate back and forth between you and bobby d (based on 100 points), i would give the final score as: radioman 90 and bobby d 10! keep on posting your comments.

It really is IRONIC that a truce has been called for after radioman refuses to answer the simplest of Questions like,"What do you do for a living?" and after refusing to reveal his identity. This is after insulting Bobby D with all kinds of silly unimportant nonsence.

If you read the blog comments on this topic/debate with Bobby D carefully; radioman hasnt commented on any issues, but instead has been trying to berate Bobby D.Bobby has actually commented on some issues, even though he wasnt even asked to..

Why wont radioman meet Bobby for lunch and hash out some things Man to Man?Why wont he come on Bobbys show as a guest and talk about the issues and his dislike for Bobby?

Bobby came on this site to comment on some rediculous personal attacks on his character and hasnt run from anything at all!! Its been Radioman who has been running and hiding..I just have to wonder why that may be the case??

Maybe he doesnt want to upset his comfortable little life here in Ocala and actually have to go much deeper into the issues??Alot of the important issues are only solved after looking a bit deeper and also after taking a serious look into the mirror at oneself, and ones relationship with God..

I wonder if Radioman really thinks its worth going down that road??

Maybe this is why he is hiding behind a computer and some air of great intelligence? It maybe getting a bit too hot in here, and its time to go have an expencive dinner and get out onto the golf course for some more relaxing form of entertainment??

I am willing to sit down with any of you guys anytime, and I am sure Bobby is probably willing to as well..

As for scoring the debate-Bobby D in a landslide!!!

You want the score in this ongoing foolishness between Radioman, Bobby D and some person called Power To The People.

Here it is, from my perspective and I bet that of others who have endured this ridiculous commentary about nothing:

Bobby D---- 0
Radioman--- 0
PTTP------- 0

That's right, you all score zilch with me! PWF's point of view is on the button. Quit feuding and let's here about issues, not personalities.

Every other word Bobby D writes is "I", I'm sick of the self-centeredness of a man who is supposed to care for others. Too much "I" for my tastes!!!

right on ann. but i still want to hear more from radioman.

i agree with you about bobby d, too much tooting his own horn for me. why does he, and his one friend, feel such a need to justify his existence on radio? i bet more people use this blog than listen to local talk radio. talk radio is getting disgusting.

At 9:24 AM, October 16, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

PTTP, you raise more red herrings than Bobby. You say Bobby came aboard the blog to answer some ridiculous personal attacks on his character (your words) but actually no attacks had been made when he showed up. People said they were glad to see Pat Strait leave, and someone questioned Owens judgement in getting involved in her "love feast" but no attacks on Bobby at all. Any fair minded person would admit that Bobby is vicious in his personal attacks on people. You want Radioman to reveal his identity but you don't either. I heard a radio preacher this morning offer good advise -- don't follow the radicals on the left or the reactionaries on the right. That's why many of us enjoy this site -- Politically Homeless".

These are a few quotes from this blog-before the arrival of Bobby D::

"How he got cought up in that 2 hour lovefest of Pat and Bobby D beats me"

"Like Cockroaches at Richards place Bobby D will resurface"

"Hope Bobby Ds new employers will not put up with his yankee diatribe"

THEN SOON AFTER HE ARRIVED CAME THIS ONE FROM RADIOMAN- "we wont have to listen to your personal philosophy on marriage -- keep them barefoot and pregnant and using foodstampos and WIC money as you have said your wife draws."

ARE THESE PERSONAL ATTACKS??

I supose some would say yes,and some may say no...

I have no problem revealing my identity and will do so the minute radioman does !!I am not real interesting though-have no big cash and am probably unknown by the big shots, another "Insignificant" one..LOL HA HA

This is one of the reasons I like the Bobby D show.He gives a forum to people that are just average Joes and also invites the heavyweights in as well. This is "FAIR" as far as I can judge..

It is great that each of us has a radio station with a talk show we like. I don’t care for BD’s program, so I tune in on another one. “Power” likes BD, so he can listen to him.

I do take exception to stating that BD is the only program dealing with REAL issues. I consider taxation, inefficient and wasteful government, exposing bad politicians, economic/jobs development, politician performance, helping senior citizens, etc. also real issues.

The other three programs I mentioned are also REAL issue shows. They cover all of the topics BD does (and more), but they don’t dwell on abortion, homosexuality, religion, and some of the other issues I believe BD goes way overboard on covering. “Power” likes to focus on those issues, I don’t.

Give me a broader selection of topics/issues and I’ll listen. But please don’t try to justify BD as “the only” REAL talk show in town—BD’s show is not!

Now to my Sunday afternoon football games.

I agree with you AGK as far as the choices we have on talk radio here in Ocala. My preference is for a show that "Hammers" away at some of the really tough issues facing our society today. This is why I prefer Bobbys show over the others.I call it being "REAL" and not playing softball with the local politicians, relgious leaders or anyone else for that matter.Bobby is very opinionated and thats OK by me.You certainly dont have to believe exactly what he does on the issues to be a guest on the show and I get the idea that some in this town/city are just too concerned with keeping the status quo and not ruffling any feathers to get into a deeper debate on some issues??

Bobbys show talks alot about Abortion-but in my opinion and the opinion of many others, this is a "Foundational" issue that needs to be adressed by any public official. The Abortion situation in our country is a national disgrace as far as I am concerned, and I dont know of "ANY" more important issue out there!!

Maybe Bobby D dwells on a few issues because they are issues that "Transcend" politics as usual and instead gets to the heart of who we are as individuals before God??

Different strokes for different folks!!

Go Giants-ELI is gonna be a big big star in the NFL!!

OK “Anon”, here is a topic for Radioman and Bobby D to give us some of their expertise and experience.

Several studies have shown that blogs, like this one, are becoming more important than traditional media (e.g., radio, TV, newspapers, etc.) as an influencer of political opinion of voters. This trend is creating some real challenges for traditional media.

Here is our question for you two gentlemen:

“Do you agree with this? Why or why not?”

We also welcome comments from others.

There probably are a lot more people getting their political information from blogs and websites than radio shows like some of the local ones. Most of these programs are too biased, just like the Star Banner editorials. So far, this blog hasn't shown me any particlular political bias.

LOVE the Idea of Radioman going on the Bobby D show.I think a man of such intelligence, radio experience, amazing grammar and syntax will be a great challenge for Bobby D !!This gives radioman another forum to display his prowess.Great news!

I look forward to listening to this special segment!!

The effectiveness of internet blogs in reaching people has to be looked at in the context of how many people read the material.Blogmaster would know how many "dedicated visitors" come on the site monthly???

Most people utilize the web as "One" of the tools in a bigger media campaign.National TV is probably the most effective media, followed by radio and then printed media.I include the internet as part of printed media.

Internet is a great Tool to reach people, but you must drive people to the site in order for it to really get out there and have an impact.I have a website(Not political or a Blog)that gets about 3500 dedicated visitors a month from all over the world.I personally do not think of that as a big success or having any major impact.

I do alot on the web-but also listen to talk radio.Talk radio is much more personal in that its spontaneous and more telling.Radioman will have just another great platform for his beliefs!!

What a wonderful country!

Critic from Belleview on 10/16 noted there had been no response from the Baxley supporters about what he had done for Marion County.

Without commenting on his assertion, let me use this as an opportunity to introduce a real issue to the blog -- the state's total failure--that means a failure of the legislature -- to address child protection and foster care situation in District 13 -- that's us in Marion County.

The Star Banner editorial recently said, among many other good points,
"Indicative of DCF's and the Legislature's unrealistic approach to improving child welfare services — that was the reason for embracing community-based care — is the amount DCF pays for foster care. The state pays anywhere from $11.74 to $15.16 per day for foster care, and the rate, according Cyndi Schuler, executive director of KCI, hasn't changed since that late 1990s.

"It's less than people pay to board their dogs," Schuler said.
Sadly, she's right. But it doesn't seem Hadi and the other DCF bureaucrats in Tallahassee are listening, not even to their own District 13 Administrator Don Thomas, who has been a vocal advocate for KCI.

"It's time for Gov. Jeb Bush to intervene. This is no longer just a financial irregularity or a budgetary oversight. This is a planned and witting shortchanging of the abused and neglected children of North Central Florida. Hadi knows about it. Our legislative delegation knows well of it. Yet no one is taking corrective action."

If I was a member of the local legislative delegation, and we have a large delegation -- thus our influence is split rather than strong -- I would demand a change and not stop until adequate funding was achieved.

To pay foster parents only $15 a day to care for and nurture a child in desperate need and $32 a day to house a prisoner in jail is wrong on its face. FEMA pays $75 to $150 a day to house refrugees from hurricanes in hotels and $5,000 a month to house them on cruise ships.

If people on this blog joined together and went after Reps. Baxley, Cretul, Pickins, Jennings, Baker and Sens. Smith, Argenzianno, Lynn and I think I missed one somewhere -- and Gov. Bush -- if we bopmbarded them with demands to correct this situation and kept it up, the problem would be solved, and soon.

PTTP, this would be something you can use your energy on, and maybe even post on your web site. And since you udnerstand the powerr of the internet and the need to drive people to a site, how can we get together and make a real contribution to the God's children who are in need. If you have any ideas, call me. And thanks!

Thanks Bobby D and Power to the People for your comments on blogs vs. traditional media.

We agree, the newness of blogs does present some issues on comparisons. Comparing a talk-radio show that has been on air for 4-5 years with a three-month old blog, like Politically Homeless, is probably not an apples to apples comparison.

Our blog’s objective is not to compete with the traditional media sources, but to supplement those sources. We want to provide information that people would not get in other ways. We know that many of our bloggers, for example, do not listen to talk radio. Our site gives them a forum that they can use, similar to talk radio.

Will we be an influential source for voters? You can bet on it! Our three-month stats indicate we are off to an above average start compared to similar blogs. Using, as a comparison, the Bobby D show stat of 10,000 listeners after 4-5 years-which has been a topic of disagreement-we are on track to get close to that in about one quarter of the time.

We look forward to citizen-useful coexistence not competition.

Keep on blogging!

At 6:21 PM, October 19, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mixing politics and religion is not just a problem. Each by itself can create mistrust.

I get very upset every time I read the newspaper or listen to TV news. First, all the shenanigans in Washington D. C.—Tom Delay, Karl Rove, Scooter Libby of the VP’s staff and on and on.

Next, my growing disenchantment with the Catholic Church. Just today, I read about the fact that there have been 560 sexual abuse claims filed against the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles involving 126 priests. The cost to the Church of settling these cases, $500 million!

Can’t trust government officials and can’t trust our priests. Who can we trust? Very disheartening. Just expressing my frustration.

At 9:23 AM, October 20, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Careful now, Linda.
Bobby will find a way to spin that LA priest scandal when he gets back from vacation so it will be a minute percentage etc or priests.
Just as we would charge parents with neglect and abuse, there outta be a law to allow prosecution of the Bishops and Archbishops who fostered and actually promoted the abuse by transfering them around instead of calling 911 and putting ghem in San Quintin. I have always throught people who live in glass houses should be careful how they criticize others and that's why I live in a block house.

Would you please remind your friend Bobby D about this when he goes off on teachers and categorizes them as "secular humanists". He is well known for being anti-teacher. Very degrading to me and many other teachers. And people wonder why Bobby D is criticized.

So what is the big deal about Dan Owen being on Bobby's show? I have also heard him on other radio programs.

The Ocala Police Department is trying to push through a new city ordinance where the public will get charged against their insurance for police involvement / services when they are involved in a traffic accident. First of all isn't that double taxation for those of us that live in the city. Second what happens if you insurance does not cover such. Then you will be getting a bill for something that we already pay for with city taxes? What happens if it is a hit and run and my insurance company sends out a notice that they will not cover such services? Who pays? Me for police showing up to do their job?

The OPD is trying to say that it is a cost that will just be passed off to the insurance companies not to city residents. However, where do they think they are going to recoup the additional cost? Our rates will go up.... again. In this tenuous time where insurance companies are pulling out of Florida due to hurricanes, do we need to give them more reasons not to stay here?

Plus has OPD done their homework? Where in the country has this been enacted and where has it worked, and where has it failed? and Why? Where are the realistic numbers and statistics as to where and why? I do not see where their numbers have any real factual basis. A developer coming into the area must do a traffic study prior to applying to the city for what they need. Why is it any less important for the OPD to do some sort of realistic study including the insurance industry getting realistic facts an figures prior to getting an ordinance passed.

At 2:16 PM, October 20, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Not only will the costs be passed off to the insurance companies, but the will "plus-up" the amount and pass it on to us! Seems it is cheaper to just pay the costs of the police doing this via our taxes than trying to pass it on to the insurance companies.

At 3:08 PM, October 20, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What kind of brain fart is this by the OPD! What will thay think of next to "double tax" us? Hope the city council blows this idea off of the table mighty fast.

PTTP, you hit the nail on ther head, and so did retired teacher. She picked up on what both of us said pretty good, and I do which all this secular humanist stuff coulf go away. First, the Supreme Court never said the Marion County School System was a secular humanist system. Second, I know many fine Christians who teacgh locally, and I have taken the time to check and they do not teach "secular humanism".
So, hopefully, you will use your influence on Bobby and tell him to lighten up a bit on this issue.

I cant speak for Bobby D and I am sure he will comment when he gets back form his trip, but I have heard him talk about teachers and secular humanism.

I have heard him specifically say that he doesnt want to put all teachers in the same category, and that there are some great teachers out there in the public school system.

I personally feel that there are some great "Christian" teachers in the public school system also, but the "system" is a secular humanist one!

Lets face it,unless you send your kids to a private christian school or homeschool using a Christian curiculum-they are getting a secular humanist education.I do believe that the supreme court has ruled that secular humanism is indeed a religion??

I thought it was neat to hear Daniel Owen on the Bobby D show, and while Bobby is away the guests have been very informative and have also been some very "Significant" individuals in our city!Good radio, thats all!

Sue Mosley and Dan Owens did a good job on the program. Randy Harris was outstanding this morning in his sermon-type presentation. For once we had someone who actually knows the Bible, and has read the constitution. I think people were a bit intimidated with his style today, and he didn't have as many calls as he gets on WOCA.
Was surprised at number of calls Sue got, and it was nice that the Secular Humanists were out of town.
By the way PTTP, I would like to read the Supreme Court Decision that says Marion County schools are teaching secular humanism and that Secular humanism is in fact a religion. Got any idea of the citation?

Saw this bumper sticker in my church parking lot yesterday evening: “The Religious Right Is Neither!”

Well, thankfully, we have not been blessed with , er, gosh I have forgotten her name already, Ms. Strait that's it, we haven't been blessed with her for two or three weeks now, and please dear God, keep her in Idaho for good, but have mercy on the poor fellow she went to be with.

She and Bobby and rest of his callers wouldn't know a "secular humanist" if they saw one. It's just part of their technique to sound important.

And "Politico" is right. groups will promise to get you votes if you make a contribution, but unfortunately, most of it is done through ethnic leaders. The numbers are getting smaller locally, but now there are some Hispanic leafders who join the handful of Blacks seeking money for votes. At the same time, fortunately, most of it is not successful. This time the election was close enough that a paid for endorsement got 125 or so votes and changed a close election. But Ewers will be ok as a Mayor, afterall he wants to sell our water to South Florida.

Local GOP is also opposing the citizens of Florida having a direct voice in their apportionment, instead of it being done behind closed doors with the lobbyists and the politicians protecting their own fannies.

What is the GOP afraid of? A political party worth its salt stands for things and if the majority if voters want those things they will vote for that party.

They are opposing this because they fear a concentrated citizens effort. I ask you to pull up the map of Florida and see how badtardized the district lines are -- Corine Brown's Congressional district starting in Orlando and ending in Ocala. following highways to pick up Black voters and guarantee a minority district. Ed Jennings' district following I-75 and jumping out whereever there is a handful of blacks to make it a segregated district. Remember the Cynthia McKenney (I think that's her last name)Congressional District in Georgia that started in Savannah and ended in Atlanta?

I am disappointed, again, in my GOP leadership. They should be supporting this amendment and urging voters to seek fairer representation. If they have done a good job of governing, they (the GOP) will get re-elected. If they haven't, they will rightfully be thrown out. But the people will make the decision in the interest of fairness. not just to protect their own job and retirement.

(The MC Gop State Committeewoman, Marguerite Cavanaugh, told me we should oppose the constitutional amendment because it would cost Ginny Waite Brown her congressional seat -- that it is aimed at her. Well, too bad., We should noit be protecting anyone's seat, only the citizens right to fair representation.

Mr. People Power,

I don't think our school system is secular humanist. I'm a Christian, just like you. My kids were educated in the public system and all would up being good folks. I know hundreds of other teachers who would say the same thing.

If parents want a Christian education for their kids, they should do just what you have done and send them to that type of school.

Public education and being educated as a Christian work together. One happens in a public, tax supported, school and the other at home and in our non-tax-supported churches. It worked for me--and many others.

Retired teacher-Here is a dictionary definition of "Secular humanist"-An outlook or philosophy that advocates human rather than religious values.
Secularism.

This exactly fits our public school system!! Doesnt it??

Hey,I like to talk in terms of facts, most of the time, and just because the school system has some good Christian people in it doesnt make it a Christian system!!

I am not anti-public school-but think that if we are to call a spade a spade,we have to tell the truth and not candy coat reality.

1961-the supreme court ruled that "Secular humanism" is a religion!!

Christians are called to be "set apart" and "consecrated" unto the Lord..This is biblical! There is no way a biblical christian can endorse some of the stuff that goes on and is tought in our public schools..You can certainly send your kids there, but be prepared to make a whole bunch of corrections and to be active in your kids understanding of the world..The school systems view of the world is very "Secular humanist"..Just read the definitions given and study comparative religion and you cant help but conclude this as "FACT"..

CHECK IT OUT!!

Haven’t left any comments in awhile. However, couldn’t resist this one. Saw an item buried in the newspaper that Barbara Fitos is running against Randy Harris.

Fitos beating Harris: Ain’t going to happen!

I think Fitos has been out in the sun too much at anti war demonstrations if she thinks she can win.

PTP, I'd like that citation on the Suporeme Court ruling that secular humanism is a religion, and where the connection between that ruling, if it exists, and the MC school system being secular humanist.
As for your question does anyone believe the MC school system is not secular humanist, I'd bet more than half the county never heard of the term, and the majority of parents with kids in the system would disagree. None of the teachers I have talked with can point to a thing in their classes that would agree with that conclusion.
But please give me the citation so I can lookit up and read the case.
Thanks.

Barbara Fitos couldn't even beat Diana Butler in a dem primary. And that was before she turned Cindy Shehan. And Butler is the only candidate dem or gop Harris ever beat badly. The others were close wins.

Blogger-I think you got me on the supreme court ruling subject!! I do admit when I am wrong!!

I thought that they ruled on this issue, when in fact they did not!!BUT they did give statements to this fact in discussing a ruling-Torcaso VS. Watkins footnote #11..They said in "Words" that secular humanism is a "Religion!! Check it out! Also here is a quote from Justice scalia-"In Torcaso v. Watkins, 367 U.S. 488, 495, n. 11 (1961), we did indeed refer to "SECULAR HUMANISM" as a "religio[n]."

So the bottom line is that they did NOT "rule"on it being a religion, but have "refered" to it as a religion..

More important to me is the beliefs of the secular humanist that ARE being tought in the public school systems ..Christians who follow the bible have a totally different world view then the secular humanist..

I dont see any relationship to the supreme courts comments and the marion county public schools, but do see the secular humanist agendas being carried out in the schools.

Eli Manning and the giants are looking way better then last year!!He is gonna be big..Can just see something special in this kid!

PTTP, glad Blogger asked the question and glad you did the rtesearch, and I will do some reading on those cases.

Like you, I don't like everything that goes on in the public school system. My son went to a private school years ago and he excelled.

But PTTP, EVERYONE simply can not use private schools; we couldn't today at $4,500 to $6,000 per child, simply no way. This means that WE MUST work to make the public schools better, instead of just calling officials names, ridiculing them, claiming things are going on that simply are not.

To me, the Christian thing to do is to be involved, and work to make them better, because of the 45,000 or so currently enrolled, only perhaps 5,000 or 6,000 can AFFORD private school tuition, and frankly the private schools have no space for many more than they now have.

One of the biggest ministries of my church is our school, and we might squeeze in another dozen kids, but no more until we expand in four to six years.

And I will repeat a question I asked at one of Bobby's free lunches for seniors like me: "Of all the 150,000 or so solidiers now on duty in Iraq, how many came from public schools? No one at that meeting knew the answer, and neither do I, but I will absolutely, positively 100% guarantee that more than 98% of them are from public schools. And wouldn't you agree they are doing pretty darn good protecting oiur freedom and trying to help another nation gain its liberty?

Thanks for your level headed thinking. I too agree that Eli Manning has a bright, bright future. Just think what Archie would have done with a winning team. The Manning family are special people. God bless.

I think it is jumping the gun in setting up a Harris vs. Fitos election. Mr. Harris may well face a Republican contender in a primary before worrying about the Democrats. If the R contenders can agree to one candidate to oppose him, things could get interesting. If there is more than one, Harris has it in the bag. I have heard a couple of names rumored that would set up a very good race. One could finance the campaign on their own.

If Fitos is all the Dems have to offer, it won’t matter who the Republican is, they will defeat her. Now if Mike Sizemore were in for the Dems, we could have a whole new ball game.

Anon writes "If Fitos is all the Dems have to offer, it won’t matter who the Republican is, they will defeat her. Now if Mike Sizemore were in for the Dems, we could have a whole new ball game. "

Astute observation.

And there are some very active Republicans (real Republicans) who are working to find an opponent for Harris.
tee time!

Secular, linear or perpendicular, I could care less! Just give us some young workers out of our public school system who can read, write, do math, show respect for others, and communicate without saying “you know” every four words out of their mouth. The skills of those coming from the private, religious schools aren’t any better.

I can understand why high tech businesses might shy away from this area. We can’t even find good employees for the manufacturing company where I work and most of the jobs don’t require a rocket science education background.

I like Mike Sizemore and think he would give Harris some real Democrat competition for a change. He might even do better vs. Harris than he did against Charley Stone. Sizemore could pick up some of the moderate Republican vote that went to Stone in the last election. Hope Sizemore does it.

randy harris v mike sizemore would be a very interesting race. bobby d always has nice things to say about mike and mike has been on his show. if mike were to run against bobby’s buddy harris, how long do you think it would be until he converts mike into another one of those liberal, secular humanists? you can bet on it happening, especially if it looks like sizemore might beat harris—and he might.

David Letterman about Harriet Miers:

“Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers steadfastly refuses to talk about herself, will not talk about herself, and I’m thinking to myself, Hell, where do you find a woman like that.”

I've seen some misinformation posted here about the Harris electoral record. As the saying goes, people are entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts. Here is the Harris general election history from reports of the Marion County Supervisor of Elections.

1994 General:

Randy Harris (REP) 40,676 or 61.61%

Leon Merian (DEM) 25,345 or 38.39%

1998 General:

Terry Carey (DEM) 35,851 or 49.03%

Randy Harris (REP) 37,265 or 50.97%

2002 General:

Diana Butler (DEM) 42,881 or 46.96%

Randy Harris (REP) 48,433 or 53.04%

I don't have the 1994 and 1998 primary data handy, but Harris won his 2002 primary against Gibboney with 56 percent of the vote.

Based on the above, it is simply not the case, as stated in a previous post, that Harris beat Butler badly and that all his other victories have been narrow. He has beaten other candidates by more. His 6-point victory over Butler looks pretty anemic, especially given his incumbency, the puny amount of money that Butler spent, and the lack of enthusiasm for her among leaders of her party. Harris looks vulnerable to a Democrat.

As an incumbent, Harris has faced only two well financed candidates: Carey in 1998 and Gibboney in 2002. He narrowly beat the Democrat Carey and trounced the Republican Gibboney. There might be a lesson in those numbers for Republicans fantasizing about taking out Harris in a primary.

I find it odd that Harris has been mentioned here as the would-be guru of Ocala City Council candidate Sam Riggs. Harris struggles in Ocala. In the 1998 general, Democrat Teri Carey pasted Harris in Ocala with 56 percent of the vote even though Harris defeated her countywide. In the 2002 Republican primary, Harris walloped Gibboney countywide with 56 percent of the vote but only narrowly took Ocala with 52 percent. In the 2004 Republican primary, Harris proxy Stan McClain trailed Parnell Townley in Ocala by 8 percentage points in a three-way race even though McClain won countywide.

Mr. Creekbaum,

Thanks for the election facts on Harris. I guess all he needs to worry about to win is everything outside the city of Ocala. It seems that has never been a problem.

He will be tough to beat no matter who runs against him. Unlike most politicians, he takes a stand on issues and many people like that. Some are unpopular stands, but still he isn't afraid to say what he thinks. I like his focus on spending, not his social issues agenda.

If Fitos and Butler are the only local Democrats he has to face, he will be returned to office without a problem--may not even have to spend much money. Bottom line, the local Democrats are impotent!

Of course, there is always the possiblility Harris will hang up his commissioner suit.

Speaking of Harris. Our coffee group concluded that the only one who could take out Dennis Baxley is Harris. No democrats can beat him. There are quite a few negative comment about Baxley on the blog. Doubt anyone could convince Harris to run for a state position. But it would be interesting. Can you picture Harris sucking up to Jeb Bush and the Tallahassee elites the way Baxley does? We can’t.

Who put the sexist comment from David Letterman about Harriet Miers on the blog? This is awful!

She has now withdrawn to save the President's bacon, so let's leave her alone.

A nice lady hung out to dry by the D.C. crowd. She is the sacrificial lamb the far right has been looking for, but couldn't manage to do with Roberts.

At 6:22 PM, October 27, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think the Miers nomination was a set up and never intended to get her appointed. The administration can say "we couldn't get a woman appointed" and then go ahead and nominate Gonzalez. We will soon see.

At 2:06 PM, October 28, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

There are several individuals the President can nominate to replace Miers. My pick is Edith Brown Clement. She received a 99-0 vote by the Senate in 2001 as a Fed. Judge. Keeps a female in the picture.

I bet that neither Gonzalez nor Clement will be nominated.

Re: Harriet Miers

If you catch the "Bush" network (FOX) the strategy is already mapped. Nominate poor dear Harriet, let everyone beat her up, get her to withdraw so we can nominate a REAL RIGHT WINGER,

i sure hope the president nominates gonzalez. this would put the far right into a tizz. i think he would get through the process just like roberts did. i think it is time for hispanic viewpoint on the court. he is well qualified even though he may not pass the right wing test.
