Politically Homeless

This blog is created as a forum for the increasingly large number of voters in Marion County, Florida who consider themselves to be "Politically Homeless". We are individuals who are frustrated with political parties and discouraged by "politics as usual". Many of us have no registered party affiliation. Others stay registered with a party only to vote in primaries, but no longer identify with the party's current political direction. We encourage you to post your comments.

Politically Homeless: Blogsite Off To A Good Start!

Our Politically Homeless blogsite has been up and running for just two weeks. We are already attracting a large number of daily visitors and several interesting postings to our site.

Thanks for visiting our blogsite. Please continue to “sound off” by sharing your point of view with all of us. The free and open exchange of opinions is a key purpose of our blogsite

We do not have money for advertising. Therefore, we must depend on each of you to “spread-the-word” to your friends and associates who might be interested in the plight of the Politically Homeless. Please “advertise” for us by encouraging more people to visit and use our site. Importantly, we want visitors to post their thoughts and opinions.

We also have an e-mail link on the home page (click on “Email Us!”) if you would like to submit any suggestions or comments about our blogsite. We welcome any and all new ideas for discussion topics, improvements in the site, etc.

Additionally, if you would prefer to have the Blog Master post something for you (anonymously or otherwise) via an e-mail, we will do so. Some of you may be more comfortable with e-mail than posting your comments while on line.

We look forward to your continuing participation in the dialogue the Politically Homeless blogsite is generating.

I just discovered this site and have passed it on to several of my friends. Like me, they are not happy with the state of their political party.

I hope that the county commissioners and other elected officials find out about this blogsite and use it to add their comments and perspective on some of the issues raised. It would be a good addition to how they communicate with the citizens of Marion county.

George has a very good suggestion concerning encouraging county commissioners and other public officials to use our blogsite to post their comments. We really want to encourage this.

Additionally, if any of our elected/public officials would like to post their point of view and/or comments on our blogsite, click on the "Email Us!" link and send an e-mail which we will post as a "Special Message" from you on the blogsite Home Page. This will give more attention to your posting.

Do you really think any commissioners are going to leave comments on this blogsite? Most of them don't even answer e-mails or telephone calls. I will die in my chair if I see any commissioners or elected officials use this forum for communicating!!!!

Could someone tell me what happened to the Ocala Republican Club? I heard this Club had attendance problems and disbanded.

Answering the question about what happenend to the Republican Club.

The Ocala Republican Club fell victim to a power play between the Club and the local Republican Party bosses. The Club lost. The Club had wanted to change its name to attract a broader base of membership. However, the name change was denied by the three "rulers" of the local party. The Club felt strongly that the name change should have been OKd and voted to dissolve rather than not having the name change. All Club funds were transfered to the State (not local) Republican Party organization. An unfortunate situation. However, don't mess with the local powers of the Republican Party--even if you are "just a Club"!

The Greater Ocala Republican Club was disbanded because State Committeewoman Marguerite Cavanaugh, State Committeeman Lewis Dinkins and County Chairman Randy Harris wanted to close down Tony Totora. The Club was more active than the GOP Exec Committee but you dont want to mess with Marguerite, Lewis or Randy.

Too bad about the Republican Club. I don't understand the big deal about the club's name. Little minds focus on little issues.

I love some of the comments that people have written. Some are hilarious and some are very good points of view on county government. Many beat the letters to the editor in the Star Banner. Hope more people find out about this.

I appreciate the sentiments of Blog Master and George, who would like to see our elected officials post their comments on this site. However, the chances of this happening are very slim.

For some reason, many people who sit behind a computer screen and type on a keyboard feel that they are anonymous and they can say or do any old nasty thing they like. This is very evident as you view the various pages of this blog. Perhaps if you encouraged civility and respect, this could happen. If only people would stick to the issues and not resort to insults and name-calling perhaps it could. It seems though that this is the method of choice for many. It is absolutely horrific what has been said about talk show hosts, politicians, and others on this site. The greatest relief to me is that the cynicism and hatred for America and/or our elected representatives/officials is obviously not shared by the majority of Americans. If it were, America would have fallen long ago. We would have simply given in to this wave of cynicism. I for one agree with former President Rondald Reagan that we should appeal to the strengths and hopes of Americans and not to their weaknesses and fears. I wonder if it is possible to have a blogsite that would do this, or maybe those who are into blogging are mostly of the cynical kind.

I have a revolutionary thought. Perhaps some of you that do so well to formulate your criticisms on this site, could call and schedule a meeting with the Commissioner/Representative/Senator/Elected official that you are so critical of to respectfully share your thoughts and concerns. Also, those of you that do have praise for any of these elected officials, please call them today and personally let them know. It will mean so much to them. Unless you have been in their position, it is impossible to know what they go through on a daily basis.

One final note. Remember that airing your concerns on this site will do absolutely no good, except but for to give you a chance to vent. There are plenty of people in America that can tell you what is wrong with America. There are very few who will take on the challenge of going about to work a positive change. I encourage you to be one of those who will dare to make a difference.

TWB (Anonymous)

Appreciate your comments. I bet you would find many of those posting comments do exactly what you suggest--contact your elected representative. I have and many others have done so frequently, with no satisfaction. As an example, I have sent letters and called my state representative--no response. The same goes for county officials. I do participate in the local community. I serve on numerous boards, committees, and volunteer orgnizations. So I'm not a "fence sitter". But I do believe strongly that our government (including both major parties)is losing contact with the voters and our problems. It is a great country--but no longer the best in the world. I know from having lived in 12 other countries.

If you think this blog site doesn't work, then it is a free world and you don't have to use it. I know it is read by several of our elected officials, because I have heard them refer to it. Sometimes it takes a "hammer" like this blog to get attention. It got your attention, didn't it? Whether you like what's on it is your personal decision. Blogs are here to stay, we had better all get used to them. Especially for political influence purposes.

So TWB, or Anonymous, whichever, I hope you will, like me, keep an open mind. Some of the bloggers are idiots. Some are exceptionally bright--probably more so than your or me. Isn't that the reality of today's world?

I appreciate your comments modcon. I am still at a loss as to how someone could contact their elected officials with no response. Unless, of course, one's contact with their elected official was similar to some on this site.

I am forced to strongly disagree with you on one point. America is the greatest country in the world hands down. It is amazing to me that someone who has lived in 12 other countries would not understand this. Obviously, you and I probably won't agree on much if we cannot even agree on such a fundamental fact. It is appalling to me that someone could be born here, raised here, educated here and still have this perspective. I am so grateful for this country. I wake up every day thanking God for allowing me to live in the greatest free country in the world. My prayer is that you too, will be able to gain a thankful attitude for the freedoms you enjoy in this country.

Back to my original subject though, it is those that determine to bring about change where they see a need that really make the difference in the world. Those who merely complain never do any good for anybody. I would encourage you that if you have sought to contact your elected officials to no avail to try again. Remember that it is the winners that never, never give up. Quitters aren't remembered in history, except in a negative light.

Blessings, and thanks for your response.

I am thankful about being from the U.S. Like you, I wake up every day thanking God for being here and vowing to make this an even better country. I served four years in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam, my Dad was a WW II vet, so that makes me very much appreciate this country. The GI Bill educated me and got me started in the business world.

We will just have to disagree on whether or not we are still the best country in the world. I look at our education results versus other countries (especially Asia), our increasing levels of poverty (matching some of the worst countries I have traveled to), corruption in government, etc. Are we the best--I would say strongly we are not. But we can return to our rightful place--not going in the direction we are today.

I may even run for office. My state legislator is inadequate and our county is so backward it isn't funny. Can I change that--I may give it a shot!

You would not find me a quitter. Coming from the poor family that I did, to where I am today will confirm that. I want every kid to have the same opportunity that I did. However, our education system is not going to guarantee that--at least going in the direction it is.

Enough of my opinions. As you said, you seem to see things one way and I see them in another. However, I respect your views and you have already indicated respect for mine. That is all we can ask. Too bad others on this blog can't communicate in the same way.

Have you traveled much outside the U.S. lately? If not, suggest you take some time and visit places like Japan, India, China, and Singapore. You might find this small sample of countries eye- opening as to the economic and education progress they are making.

Respectfully.

Thanks for your reply. I certainly agree with your sentiments that we can make this a better country.

I also want to take the opportunity to thank you for your military service to this country. Truly it is the individuals like you, your father and my father that made this country what it is today. I agree that we have much room for improvement in our educational system as well as many other areas. I still believe though that this country is the greatest country on the face of the earth. Why? The citizens of this country make it so. The freedoms and opporunities make it so.Why is it that so many still want to come to America? They come because America, with all its faults, is still the land of opportunity.

I sincerely hope that you do seriously consider running for office. It seems as though you have the background that would lend itself to such an effort. Just the story of your upbringing and how you became who you are today will inspire others to follow. I would not suggest however, that you make a public issue out of your belief that America is not the greatest country in the world.

I don't believe that you would find many Americans that would not agree with you that we have much room for improvement. That is what makes America what it is though. Ordinary citizens with extraordinary motivation and ideas come along with solutions to problems and others latch on to those ideas. Before you know it, one ordinary citizen with extraordinary ideas has just changed the direction of a county, state, or nation.

Although I don't agree with some of your thoughts, you do sound like someone who might posses some good ideas. Keep that mind going, and let us know if and when you decide to run for office. If you did run, what do you think you would go for?

Blessings

TWB,

I believe I could make the most difference as a School Board member. I have "received" the results of our education system as employees in business, and I also have taught in the community college, undergrad and graduate levels of our university system.

I wish you well in your endeavors. Please keep us up to date. I like to see people stepping out and taking risks. I hope to run for office my self in a few years. At this point, I am trying to establish my business.
